[Regnum] An aftershock of magnitude 6.4 was recorded in Kamchatka. This was reported on August 6 by the press service of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences".
The tremor was recorded at 13:35 Moscow time, 213 km south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
“Distance from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is 213 km, depth is 39.3 km, magnitude is 6.4,” the branch’s Telegram channel stated.
On the morning of July 30, the strongest earthquake since 1952 occurred off the coast of Kamchatka. Its magnitude, according to various estimates, reached 8.8. Later, a series of tremors with a smaller magnitude were recorded in the region.
According to the Kamchatka Krai Ministry of Health, one person was injured.
A high alert regime was introduced in the region, and a state of emergency was declared in the North Kuril District of the Sakhalin Region. The earthquake triggered a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean, which is why a threat was declared in the coastal areas of Japan, the United States, the Philippines, and a number of Latin American countries.
According to seismologists' forecast, the aftershock process with tangible events will last for several months. Seismic activity in the peninsula area is decreasing, but remains high, experts noted.'
