#5  It is unclear how we got the weapon onto the base.

Strangely enough, its a gun free zone.

#1  Sgt. Quornelius Radford allegedly opened fire at his place of work this morning, Brig. Gen. John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, said.

'It did involve his co-workers. We’re still not certain about the motivations,' Lubas said of the attack.

Radford, an automated logistics sergeant, used a personal handgun to carry out the attack. It is unclear how we got the weapon onto the base.

Fellow soldiers tackled Radford after he started shooting, enabling authorities to take him into custody.

'Soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately and without hesitation tackled the soldier, subdued him. That allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody,' the general said.

Radford has never been deployed to a combat area. He had no disciplinary or behavorial issues that officials were aware of, but the investigation remains ongoing.

'I do believe he was arrested locally for a DUI,' Lubas added. 'That was unknown to his chain of command until the event occurred and we started looking into the law enforcement databases.'

Radford has been interviewed by the Army Criminal Investigation division and is currently being held in pre-trial confinement, awaiting a charging decision.
