[Regnum] Former Mali Prime Minister Musa Mara has been arrested on charges of discrediting the government and inciting unrest. This was reported by radio station RFI.
"Former Mali Prime Minister Musa Mara has been charged and taken into custody," the radio station explains.
He has been charged with four counts, including “undermining confidence in the state,” “obstructing legitimate authority,” and “inciting public disorder.”
It is noted that Mara held a number of meetings with opposition politicians and activists, and then published a harsh statement addressed to the Malian authorities on the social network X. The court hearing on his case is scheduled for September 29, the radio station specifies.
Mara was Prime Minister of Mali from 5 April 2014 to 8 January 2015.
According to the African Initiative agency, the Sahel states (Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso) have united in a wave of protest against pro-Western administrations and found an ally in Russia in the fight against the former metropolis, France, its partners and terrorists.
On April 3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia would help the Sahel states build up their defense potential against the backdrop of existing terrorist threats. He emphasized Moscow's readiness to assist the states in both security and economics, as well as international processes.
Earlier, the Associated Press (AP) reported that about 50 servicemen were killed in an attack by armed gangs on a military base near the village of Dargo in northern Burkina Faso. The attack was carried out by about 100 militants from a group associated with the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda (a terrorist organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation)
