| The People’s Defense Forces are apparently a grassroots outgrowth of the 2021 protests against the military coup in Myanmar. It’s supporting and supported by the National Unity Government (NUG), the shadow, democratically elected civilian government. There are also smaller Local Defense Forces (LDFs) and People’s Defense Teams (PaKhaPha/PDTs, but the PDF operates under joint commands between several long-standing ethnic rebel groups and the NUG. |
