[Regnum] The US Air Force is likely to abandon the B-1B Lancer strategic bombers, since they do not meet the current level of air defense of potential adversaries — Russia and China. This was reported on July 16 by the American magazine The National Interest (TNI).
"As the U.S. Air Force shifts its focus to air-to-air conflicts, the B-1B Lancer's moderate stealth makes it less suited to modern peer-to-peer conflicts. While it remains a relatively effective long-range bomber, the B-1B's days are numbered," the publication states.
The authors of the article point out that against the backdrop of its increasingly powerful competitors with modern air defense systems, the B-1B Lancer looks outdated. At the same time, given the US focus on countering future threats, the country's air force will only need the most effective machines.
As reported by Regnum News Agency, on July 17, the WSJ also noted that Russian ballistic missiles are creating difficulties for Patriot air defense missile systems in Ukraine, since they bypass their radars. According to the source of the publication, in recent months, Patriot air defense missile system radars have failed to detect Russian missiles.
Konstantin Sivkov, Deputy President for Information Policy at the Russian Academy of Rocket and Artillery Sciences, also previously stated that Russia, if certain conditions are met, would be able to repel an attack by American Tomahawk missiles.
