As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 6, clashes broke out in the Syrian province of Latakia between supporters of the former president of the republic, Bashar al-Assad, and the forces of the new authorities of the country. Clashes also began in the province of Tartus, after which the authorities sent troops there. Three days later, clashes began in the port city of Baniyas.
Later, on March 10, Ahmed al-Sharaa stated that the new Syrian authorities were interested in maintaining deep strategic relations with Russia. He noted that against this background, the new Syrian authorities were trying to prevent a split between the countries.
On March 11, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia wants to see Syria stable, prosperous and friendly. The Kremlin spokesman also pointed to the need to ensure stability in the republic due to the general explosiveness of the Middle East, as instability in Syria could cause a chain reaction in neighboring countries in the region.
