[Regnum] The heavy nuclear missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov, when it returns to the Russian Navy after modernization, will become a significant symbol of the Russian Federation's power. This was stated on February 5 by the American publication The War Zone (WZ).
The authors of the material noted that many years of work on updating the ship have led to tangible results. A deep modernization has been carried out, it is planned that this will be a modern unit with a whole range of the latest weapons and systems.
The publication recalled that Admiral Nakhimov belongs to the 1144.2M Orlan project. The Russian Navy has one cruiser of this project, Pyotr Velikiy. It joined the Northern Fleet after a less extensive modernization.
The Admiral Nakhimov is planned to be equipped with 80 launchers for the Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon cruise missiles. The ship will be provided with S-300FM Fort systems and several Pantsir-M systems to ensure air defense. Many equipment elements are also planned to be replaced.
According to the publication, if the cruiser is equipped with weapons in accordance with plans, it will become the most powerful ship in the Russian Navy.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, in January, the Admiral Nakhimov underwent a physical launch of its nuclear reactor. According to sources in the military-industrial complex, the cruiser's factory sea trials are planned to begin in the summer of 2025, and it is to be handed over to the customer in 2026.
The cruiser Admiral Nakhimov was built in 1983, previously called Kalinin. It is a 1st rank ship. It has been undergoing modernization since 1999, but the actual work began only in 2013.
