[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Vladimir Putin is feared to have lost his dolphin warfare squadron in a 'storm of the century' that hit Crimea this week.
The specially trained anti-sabotage mammals were in service with the Russian navy.
Reports say their sea pens are missing in Sevastopol harbour > after the storm hit the Black Sea coast, as are floating booms and barriers to protect against Ukrainian kamikaze sea drones.
The dolphins are trained for use against enemy divers who invade harbours to plant limpet mines or for reconnaissance.
The mammals have been taught to alert their human controllers - or deliver lethal strikes from underwater guns, a warfare programme that began in Soviet times.
Independent defence analyst H I Sutton said - based on satellite images - that after the 'massive storm' battered Crimea on Monday and Tuesday, 'preliminary analysis reveals that the dolphin pens in Sevastopol harbour are gone.' |
