The war in Israel has led to a sharp division in the United States. The White House is formally striving for de-escalation, but very sluggishly and leisurely. Joe Biden is simultaneously under intense pressure from both the liberal wing of the Democrats, who accuse Israel of war crimes, and hawks in both parties, who demand that they help Israel in every way possible. The Biden team itself is actually trying to sit on two chairs - but this is unlikely to succeed.
