Security chiefs got wind of something amiss in Gaza, thought it was a drill – reports
2023-10-14
[IsraelTimes] Netanyahu says he was updated only when devastating Hamas infiltration began at 6:29 a.m. Saturday; reports say top brass had ‘scraps’ of info, didn’t raise alert or boost forces

Senior IDF and security officials reportedly held an assessment hours before the start of Hamas’s brutal onslaught on southern Israel on Saturday morning, having received “weak scraps” of information that something was afoot, but concluded that the activity in Gaza was likely a drill.

In response to the reports, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had not received any intelligence warnings from the security establishment before the start of the devastating mass Hamas infiltration, in which some 1,300 people were killed as terrorists rampaged across communities in southern Israel.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was updated at exactly 06:29 on Saturday, and not before, upon the outbreak of the fighting,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement. “He immediately went to the Kirya [military headquarters in Tel Aviv], held an assessment of the situation and convened the Security Cabinet.”

The reports said that senior military and Shin bet officials, including IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, held phone discussions just a few hours before Hamas’s devastating infiltration, after indications of irregularities were noted.

The generals reportedly concluded that the activity in Gaza was probably a drill, and agreed to hold further discussions in the morning. They reportedly chose not to raise an alert or boost forces to the Gaza border area, since the issue was not considered pressing.

#5  If Trump we in a similar decision making situation for the US, could all government officials be counted on to pass along correct and timely intelligence? Would Miley, for instance?

#4  It gets very tiring hearing people complaining about how the Intelligence Community of Israel and the US is supposed to be omniscient. This ain't an f'ing Tom Clancy novel.

Did they miss something they should have paid more attention too, maybe but that's life. perfection is a dream.

Clean up the mess as best you can.

#3  No confirmation from their friends in Washington? No one asked? No one provided overhead, signals, conducted predictive analysis ?

Alright then, what news (criminal, Plandemic, Mex border) are we now NOT hearing much about? What US national news is being masked. What other costly, failing international conflict is suddenly OFF the radar ?

So Israel may have missed it. Pearl Harbor, Battle of the Ardennes was 'missed' too, as was 9/11. Looks like they've got their 'A-Game' on right now and are running the ball.

"Who shot John".... talk about it later during 'lessons learned' sessions at The Israel National Defense College (INDC), AWC, or Leavenworth.

Keeping in mind Israel didn't start this kak slinging contest, run the ball and take meaningful, effective strategic measures to terminate the threat.

"Get it on."

#2  Look Skid, they are (were) always, always, active in Gaza - you can't respond every time.
And since everybody (in Israel) could predict the eventual (current) response - it would be pure craziness for them to do something.
In short, the failure was underestimating how crazy they are.
Israel can play at "who's head should roll?" later. The important thing is to do them maximum hurt before USG stops Israel (I for one, have very inconfortable feeling between my shoulder blades everytime I read about USG functionaries promising eternal support to Israel)
