The Wagner reinforcements are experienced anti-terrorist specialists, many of whom are battle-hardened veterans who fought against al-Qaeda, ISIS and the FSA in Syria.
The Wagner Group arrival coincides with an announcement by ECOWAS that a "D-Day" for its invasion of Niger has already been decided upon. Aside from Wagner support, Niger can reportedly also count on backing from Mali, Burkina Faso
