Food Stamps: COLA Update Increases SNAP EBT Benefits By 12.5% Starting Oct. 1 |
2022-10-01 |
![]() The COLA, which kicks in beginning on Oct. 1, 2022, will hike benefits by 12.5%, per Motley Fool’s The Ascent. The increase is designed to help offset this year’s skyrocketing inflation rate, which has been running at its highest level in more than four decades. SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, is a federal program that provides food-purchasing assistance to low-income households. Although it is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program is administered at the state level. Recipients now have their benefits loaded onto Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards and no longer pay with food stamps. The USDA announced the new COLA in an Aug. 9 memo posted on its website. As previously reported by GOBankingRates, here’s how the monthly SNAP benefit will change for recipients in the 48 contiguous states and District of Columbia: Related: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: 2022-06-06 Surprising Things You Can Buy With Food Stamps Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: 2021-03-13 Lawfare: 11 States File Motion to Revive Fight for Trump’s ‘Public Charge’ Immigration Rule Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: 2021-01-28 Over 6 Million Added to Food Stamp Rolls in Pandemic |

#3 Get out the vote money. State of California is sending out their own voter drive money in about a week. Up to approx $1000. They call it inflation relief checks. Perfect example of arsonist firefighter. National average for gas in the US today is $3.80. In San Diego we have an average of $6.32 today. So we are paying $2.50 above national average right now. My 36 gallon tank will cost $90 more to fill than the rest of the country. I fill every 1.5 weeks or so. So that’s approximately 34 fills a year. You do the math, 34 fills at $90 more per fill. Thank you for my inflation check sir. May I have another? |
