  • California will start its ban on the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles Thursday, which was first announced in 2020

  • The goal is to stop the sale of all new gasoline vehicles by 2035

  • This, according to officials, aims to reduce smog and combat climate change

  • Thursday's launch will require that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions

  • Then 68 percent by 2030 and ultimately 100 percent five years after.
