  • The 'Fat Leonard' scandal is one of the largest corruption cases in Navy history

  • Leonard Francis, 57, a Malaysian defense contractor, bribed hundreds of people to obtain confidential information and boost his Singapore-based business

  • Francis was arrested in 2013, pleaded guilty in 2015, and his long-delayed sentencing is now scheduled for September 24

  • Federal criminal charges have been filed against 34 Navy officials, defense contractors, and the Glenn Defense Marine Asia corporation

  • So far, 26 of those have pleaded guilty and many have been sentenced to several years in prison

  • On Tuesday one of nine defendants in what was to be the first criminal trial switched his not guilty plea and admitted the charges

  • Chief Warrant Officer Robert Gorsuch, 54, confessed to accepting more than $45,000 in bribes from Francis including lavish parties and hotel stays

  • Gorsuch will be sentenced in November for his role in the scam
