[KOMONEWS] Tacoma police said Friday that they have arrested a teen suspect in connection with a suspected hate crime case in which an elderly Korean-American couple were attacked nearly five months ago, an assault that was captured on video and widely shared on social media.Authorities did not identify the 15-year-old boy because he is a juvenile. Police said in a written statement that the suspect would face a second-degree assault charge for the incident, which occurred on Nov. 19, 2020.Investigators used the video to identify the teenager, and realized he was scheduled to show up on Friday for a detention review hearing at Remann Hall for an unrelated robbery charge. Officers were at the courthouse waiting for him, then took him into custody.
Although the video was shared to social media last year, Tacoma police said they were only made aware of the footage on Tuesday.
