Pakistan has released a former senior Taliban official from jail |

Two Taliban officials have confirmed to News Agency that Dare Not be Named that Abdul Samad Sani, who served as the Afghan Central Bank governor during the turbans’ rule in the late 1990s, has been released from the jail. The officials have also confirmed that a lower-ranking commander named Salahuddin has also been released. The Pak government officials have not commented in this regard so far. This comes as another senior Taliban leader, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, was released from the jail in Pakistain few days ago. Reports regarding the release of Abdul Samad Sani emerge at a time when efforts are underway to revive Afghan peace talks. The U.S. Special Adviser for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad is due to visit Pakistain, Qatar ![]() , and United Arab Emirates as part of the ongoing efforts for Afghan reconciliation. |
