| Youtube boots video channels to cleanup kidz programming |

| Their platform, their rules LOS ANGELES — Google-owned YouTube, which has been under fire for allowing kids programming to get out of control with violent and exploitative content aimed at older audiences, announced several steps Wednesday to wipe out these viral videos. In a blog post, YouTube said it had toughened its guidelines for acceptable content, and had in the past week kicked off 50 channels and removed "thousands" of videos under the guidelines. YouTube said it had changed policies to remove ads from inappropriate videos that target families and block inappropriate comments on videos featuring minors. "We also implemented policies to age-restrict (only available to people over 18 and logged in) content with family entertainment characters but containing mature themes or adult humor," said Johanna Wright, vice president of product management at YouTube, in the blog post. "To help surface potentially violative content, we are applying machine learning technology and automated tools to quickly find and escalate for human review." More at the link |
