National Committee for Human Rights: Amazigh, Tubu rights must be guaranteed by Libya’s constitution |
2016-12-07 |
![]() In a statement, the NCHRL said it was filled with sorrow to hear such statements by those who were trusted with drafting a constitution that would be inclusive of all Libya’s communities and guarantee that all of Libyan citizens enjoy their rights equally. “We totally reject such “eliminatory statements” as they use marginalization at the pretext of ‘protecting the national security’, which in fact urges, now more than ever, for protecting the rights of all the Libyan communities on the basis of the natural rights not the legal rights.” The statement reads. It also indicated that the communities of Tuareg, Tubu and Amazigh people in Libya must see their rights included in the Libyan constitution so that they can preserve their cultural and social ancestries and keep the Libyan society diverse as it naturally is, thus respecting the international conventions regarding the civil, political, cultural and social rights. “They all must be having their rights protected in the Libyan constitution so that the Libyan identity can be preserved for good.” The statement elaborates. |
