The danger of truck bombs, IEDs and booby traps may have been markedly reduced after Bunyan Marsous fighters yesterday overran an IS bomb-making factory in Sirte. But the price already paid by the anti-terrorist forces has been high.The spokesman for the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room, Brigadier Mohamed Al-Ghasri said today that 210 fighters had been killed since the start of the assault on IS in Sirte, with 800 wounded.
This evening Misrata Hospital was treating four fighters injured by shrapnel from mortar rounds. Seriously wounded men continue to be sent abroad for treatment, the latest batch being flown to Morocco.
The bomb factory discovered in Sirte contained explosives leached from shells, detonators and wireless detonators.
