| Naegleria kills young man, raising toll to 13 |

| [DAWN] KARACHI: Naegleria fowleri, better known as the 'brain-eating' amoeba, killed another young man at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Monday bringing the total number of deaths from the lethal disease to 13 in the city this year, officials said. Officials said the young man had been shifted to the JPMC from a private hospital because his family could no longer bear exorbitant charges of the healthcare facility. "Twenty-four-year-old Mohammad Shakeel was admitted to the neurology department a day ago in a precarious condition and he died this evening," said Dr Seemin Jamali, joint executive director of the JPMC, while speaking to Dawn. She said the young man was a tailor by profession and resident of Orangi Town. |
