| NATO: No deal means no troops in Afghanistan after 2014 |

Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has been addressing the issue of Afghanistan, during the talks in Brussels. Rasmussen says if there's no agreement on a US-Afghan security pact, then the alliance will pull all its troops and equipment out of Afghanistan by December. "If the bilateral security agreement between the United States and Afghanistan is not signed there will be no NATO status of forces agreement with Afghanistan and if there is no agreement there will be no NATO troops in Afghanistan after 2014. Let me stress this is not our preferred option. But these are the facts," Anders Fogh Rasmussen said. The B.O. regime was hoping to leave up to 10 thousand troops in Afghanistan after combat operations end on December 31st. They would mainly stay on to train Afghan forces and conduct counter-terrorism missions. US Army Chief, General Martin Dempsey says that the impasse over the security agreement is "encouraging the enemy to take bold actions" and could lead some Afghan forces to cooperate with the Taliban. |
