Bloomberg Says Interpretation of Constitution Will ‘Have to Change’ After Boston Bombing
2013-04-22
In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday the country’s interpretation of the Constitution will “have to change” to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks.

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But we live in a complex word where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

Mr. Bloomberg, who has come under fire for the N.Y.P.D.Â’s monitoring of Muslim communities and other aggressive tactics, said the rest of the country needs to learn from the attacks.

“Look, we live in a very dangerous world. We know there are people who want to take away our freedoms. New Yorkers probably know that as much if not more than anybody else after the terrible tragedy of 9/11,” he said.

“We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to,” he said.

#16  interpretation of the Constitution will "have to change" to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks.

Perhaps instead of taking liberty from the many to protect against the few, we should 'interpret' greater penalities for the few?

#12  Yes immigrants built this country but I believe...

Yes, and at one time this was a nation with slavery. It reach a point in its development that it determined, with great loss of life, it was time for a major change.

Note well that the same ruling caste that, in the name of Gaia, demand the rest of us, of course not them, have to cut back on our levels of consumption, our economic standing, and expectations, are also the ones pushing for open borders/amnesty/et al for even more people to pressure the environment and undermine the wages of those born here will minimal skill sets.

Legal immigration but only those who will contribute to the needs of the country via skills and investment. We've done our share in history to take in the huddled masses. Let others take in the raw numbers we up till have absorbed. We no longer need to fill a continent.

#10  How about we reconsider some notions about immigration. Yes immigrants built this country but I believe...

Allowing the bold and brave to come here we allow the totolitarians to grt a firmer grip back home.

Allowing anyone in without pushing for them to join the culture we are fragmenting and balkanizing our culture.

Allowing immigrants from cultures that are actively at war with we are being incredibly niave if not suicidally stupid. Why are we giving out any visas to Muslims whe the war rages and tbe Muslim everyman refuses to pick a side? We weaken the non-psycho elements in their societies and risk bringing psychos here.

Bloomberg is itching to recreate Benito's world. Of course with him as Benito.

#8  There are still rapes, assaults, drug trafficking and murder in our prisons. Not much liberty, but, in theory, about as secure as government can make an environment. In the end, its the population that sets the 'tone' for the society or the subsets thereof.

#4  Seems to me this was dealt with 200+ years ago. Something about the trade-off between liberty and security.

Bloomberg is itching to recreate Benito's world. Of course with him as Benito.
