The Great Falls Police Department reports that it has not yet been called to investigate who hacked into a local TV station's emergency alert system and reported "dead bodies rising," which caused quite a few confused phone calls Monday afternoon.The emergency alert was issued during the afternoon programming on KRTV. On the station's website and Facebook page, KRTV says the hacking came from an outside source and station officials are trying to find out how this happened.
The alert featured a scrolling warning for various Montana counties and a voice-over said there were "dead bodies rising from the grave and attacking the living" and urged people to use caution. It went on to say, "Do not attempt to approach or apprehend these bodies as they are extremely dangerous."
Lt. Shane Sorensen with the GFPD said the police department received phone calls from people who were concerned after they saw the message.
"We had four calls checking to see if it was true. And then I thought, 'Wait. What if?'" Sorensen said with a laugh. "We can report in the city, there have been no sightings of dead bodies rising from the ground."
