Bad Weather Tied to Global ... Whatever | |
2012-10-17 | |
The increased frequency of flooding, drought and other extreme weather events in the past decade shows a statistical pattern possibly linked to global warming, some U.S. scientists say. "We can state, with a high degree of confidence, that extreme anomalies ... were a consequence of global warming because their likelihood in the absence of global warming was exceedingly small," researchers including NASA climatologist James Hansen Whoops. That's all *I* needed to read! ![]() What about the 30's "Dust Bowl", John. Do the models fit that in, too? "It certainly doesn't appear to be out of line to conclude that this last summer could be statistically attributed to global warming." Warming? Climate change? 16 years of plateau? C'mon, guys! What is it? Among laypeople, the perception that extreme weather is getting worse -- and that it's linked to climate change -- is increasingly taking hold. Climate

#14 Just a damn good thing WE don't have four suns; not only would Global Worming be a lot worse, but Solandra woundn't know which way to orient their solar colectors and probably have to file for bankruptcy protection. or something... |

#8 Everyone should know that bad weather is an act of God. |

#7 Or we can just slow down the world economy to control global warming, as suggested by this U of Mich study summary. I saw the story in glancing thru a June 2012 civil engineering mag. Is there anything that gobal warming does NOT affect? Hemorrhoids, perhaps? |

#6 Re 2 and 3 - I thought of some of those Darth, but was in a hurry. I will save those examples to help further educate my adult offspring. |

#5 The climate "scientists" cherry pick their data to match their model. They ignore inconvenient truths like the medieval warm period, and some of the examples listed in the comments here. It seems to me that if a mathematical model is accurate, you should be able to put in data for the forties and fifties and see if the model produces output that matches the historical data for the sixties and seventies. |

#4 If you have 10 models all saying different things everything that happens can be attributed to a model... The fact that all these models are bunkum for very basic maths reasons does make me worry about how corrupt grant based "science" has become. |

#3 Also looking at my post it may look like I'm ranting at Bobby. Just backing them up as they make an excellent point. |

#2 What about the 30's "Dust Bowl", John. Do the models fit that in, too? What about the 300 year drought in North America from 1150-1350 that destroyed the Anazi culture, the Mississippi Valley culture and the Tiwanaku civilization around Lake Titicaca in present-day Bolivia? Does that fit in your models? What about the drought that brought an end to the Old kingdom of Egypt in 2181BCE that made the Nile almost dry up for 8 years? Does that fit in your models? Little Ice age fit in? Does your model still work now that it has been shown that Global Warming stopped 16 fucking years ago? |

#1 Yesterday I drank a skunky beer, but then I realized it must be because of global warming! I have applied for a $5m government grant to study this problem, and will need as many Rantburgers as possible to aid in my research. Just waiting for the check. |
