| [Bangla Daily Star] Pakistain police have placed in durance vile a man who spent three years posing as a general to grab land and solicit favours from the government in a country where the military holds formidable power, police said Friday. Maqsood Shah, 52, was jugged Thursday near an army area in eastern Bloody Karachi ...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It may be the largest city in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous... as he strolled in uniform to meet a government official in order to clinch approval for an illegal land transfer, officials said. Shah was jugged after allegedly threatening the official in question, who subsequently tipped off police. "We checked him out to confirm that he was a fake and placed in durance vile him outside the cantonment," Subhani said. Police accused Shah of ringing up several provincial cabinet ministers and pretending to be a general in order to solicit "undue favours". |
