North Korea's state-controlled media on Tuesday unanimously started referring to leader Kim Jong-il's son and heir Jong-un as "general."

[North] Korean Central News Agency and Central Television and Pyongyang TV used the title when they released a list of top officials who attended a meeting between Kim senior and visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang.
The state media had previously used his unwieldy official title -- vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers Party. He was appointed as the official heir to the North Korean throne at a party meeting in September last year. The simplification to "general" suggests that his status is gradually becoming more secure. |
