Armed suspects riding in a sedan threw a grenade against the offices of Tamaulipas' ProcuradurÃa General de Justicia del Estado in Matamoros Monday, say Mexican news reports.
The attack took place at about 1300 hrs near the intersection of Avenida del Maestro and Bulevar Manuel Cavazos Lerma where armed suspects fired on elements of the Policia Preventiva, and then threw a hand grenade against the PGJE offices.
The grenade did not detonate because the fuse was not in the grenade. The attackers then fled the area. Their vehicle was later found abandoned with the fuse of the grenade left in the passenger front seat.
No one was reported hurt in the attack.
The last hand grenade attack took place late last month when a grenade detonated at the city offices of Matamoros. Two unidentified female passers-by were wounded in that attack.
