Explosives cache seized west of Baghdad |

![]() “After receiving a tip from an Iraqi citizen, Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers discovered a large cache in the Aqur Quf area west of Baghdad, May 19,” read the release as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “At approximately 2:15 p.m., Guards from the Ministry of Interior and Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, operationally attached to the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, discovered the cache consisting of 18 rocket propelled grenade warheads, 44 60mm mortar rounds, 31 RPG motors, one set of binoculars, 100 ft. of detonation cord, six RPG launchers, one 60mm mortar base plate, one Motorola cell phone attached to military grade explosives and one RKG-3 anti-armor grenade,” the release added. “An explosive ordinance disposal team was called to the site to safely conduct a controlled detonation and transport some of the weapons to a secure location for further investigation,” it said. |
