 Elite Iraqi police forces dropped off by US helicopters staged a raid against an al-Qaida-linked Sunni militant group on Saturday, killing 15 insurgents and capturing five others, the Interior Ministry said. The quick-reaction Iraqi force, backed by gunfire from the helicopters, met fierce resistance from the members of the militant group who were hiding in two abandoned houses in the predominantly Sunni neighborhood of Dora in southern Baghdad, ministry spokesman Abdul-Karim Khalaf said. The US military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. |
