Some of his contributors are politically connected. Federal law enforcement authorities allege that Jefferson demanded hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in return for arranging telecommunications deals in Africa during the first half of the decade. Two men have pleaded guilty to bribing or aiding in a bribe to Jefferson. The congressman has not been charged with a crime and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. Records filed with the House show that Jefferson has paid $81,000 for his legal defense so far.| Surely the Trial Lawyers' Association owes him some pro bono time... |
