The Iranian government and nation must not allow the enemies to damage their unity and solidarity, Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said in Qom on Monday. In a speech marking the anniversary of the Khordad 15 uprising of 1963, Rafsanjani called the 1979 Islamic Revolution a great national asset. “We should try to protect this asset and thwart the plots of the enemies by maintaining unity,” he added. He underlined the key roles played by the city of Qom, seminaries, and marja’ taqlids (sources of emulation) in helping the Islamic Revolution attain victory. “Imam Khomeini stood up to the monarchy, trusting in God and relying on the help of the people of Qom and its seminaries,” he noted. He also expressed hope that the people of Qom would always uphold the ideals of the late Imam Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution.
