An Australian soldier has died in Iraq. It is the first death of a member of the Australian armed forces in Iraq since the US led invasion in 2003. The Defence Department says the soldier was shot yesterday and taken to a US military hospital in Baghdad, where he later died. The Department will not say exactly what happened to the man, but that his death was not combat related and no-one else was hurt. The soldier was serving with the Operation Catalyst Security Detachment in Baghdad, which is working on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq. His family has been notified but the soldier's identity has not been released. The Defence Department says no other details of his death will be revealed until a full investigation is completed.
