KARACHI: The stunned crowd that took the dead and the injured to the three hospitals of the city on Tuesday, was so emotionally charged that it ended up manhandling and threatening doctors and paramedics at the institutions. Doctors at Jinnah, Liaquat and Civil hospitals all said that the mobs were hysterical and went straight at the staff. A doctor at Liaquat National Hospital said that the crowd had beaten up the doctors. "Our doctors have strict orders to come straight to work in such an emergency. We try to save people who are breathing their last. But what are we supposed to do about people who are already dead," the doctor asked.
The biggest threat came when doctors had to "treat" Abbas Qadri, who was already dead. "He was already dead on arrival and we had people with guns telling us to ensure that he lived. We could not tell them he was already dead because we were afraid they would kill us," said the doctor who refused to be identified.
