BAGHDAD: Iraqi Sunni leaders said on Wednesday they would focus on pressing US forces to pull out after failing to block a controversial constitution, hoping a US death toll of 2,000 will encourage Washington to withdraw. âOur political programme will focus more on getting the Americans out of Iraq,â Hussein al-Falluji, a prominent Sunni who took part in talks on the constitution, told Reuters. âOur message to the American administration is clear: get out of Iraq or set a timetable for withdrawal or the resistance will keep slaughtering your soldiers until judgment day.â The death of an army sergeant pushed the US military death toll in Iraq to the symbolic figure of 2,000 on Tuesday, but President George W Bush warned more sacrifices were needed before US troops could come home.
