 President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said stated the decision to register madrassas was âfinalâ and cautioned people that âno hindrance whatsoever would be tolerated in the registration processâ.

âThe registration of madrassas is imperative. Modern scientific education should be imparted in seminaries so that students who graduate from them can play their part in all walks of life,â he told NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman, who called on him at Army House on Monday.

The president said that the ongoing campaign against terrorists in Waziristan would be âstepped upâ. He hailed the ongoing development projects in tribal areas and said that emphasis should be made to develop these underdeveloped and backward areas. âWe must create employment opportunities in these areas to bring them at par with other parts of the country. Education and healthcare facilities should be provided to tribesmen and basic infrastructure should be improved,â he said.

He said that antisocial elements were opposed to development. âWe will take stern action against them,â said the president. About the upcoming local bodies elections, he said that the code of conduct announced by the Election Commission should be upheld and no one should be allowed to violate the code. |
