KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - US-led coalition and Afghan forces attacked a suspected Taleban hideout in southeastern Afghanistan, killing eight militants and arresting three others, an official said on Sunday. One Afghan soldier was wounded in the operation, which triggered a firefight early Saturday in Zabul province’s Shahr-e-safa district, said the district’s chief, Haji Ghulam Rasol.The troops also seized an unspecified number of weapons from the militants, including AK-47 assault rifles, rockets and ammunition, he said. With the support of coalition forces, Afghan soldiers were searching the area for more fighters, Rasol said.
A US military spokeswoman said she had no information about the incident.
