A Palestinian armed group has seized a Palestinian military intelligence officer in the central Gaza Strip, Aljazeera has learned. Some Palestinian mediators were making contacts to free the officer, Aljazeera's correspondent added. Colonel Jihad Abed was abducted on the street by a group who bundled him into a car in the Bureij refugee camp, witnesses and officials said on Thursday. "We are dealing with a kidnap incident but we do not know the reasons behind the abduction," a Palestinian Interior Ministry spokesman said. "We have launched an investigation and are conducting a search operation." Witnesses said the abductors were from the Jenin Martyrs' Brigades, whose members are mainly former members of the mainstream Fatah movement. The same organisation was behind the abduction of then Palestinian police chief Ghazi Jabali in July last year in Gaza.
