GILGIT: Northern Areas Inspector General (IG) of Police Sarmad Saeed Khan has said that militants and terrorists in Gilgit will be shot on sight. A regional weekly paper called Naqqara on Monday quoted the IG as saying that a handful of terrorists had taken the whole population hostage and the time had come to deal with them. The paper said the IG's shoot on sight order was applicable to illegal gunrunners, terrorists and arsonists and he appealed to locals to cooperate with police to eliminate anti-state elements. The paper quoted the IG as saying that the sectarian tendency in the Northern Areas police had decreased to a satisfactory level.
