 DANVILLE, Pa. - Geisinger Medical Center has settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleged that a surgeon left a 4-inch metal instrument in her uterus. The lawsuit filed in Montour County Court alleged that Dr. Samuel Owusu operated on Lori Klinger, now 35, in November 2002. The suit alleged that two days after her surgery, the instrument - sharp on one end with a rubber bulb on the other - emerged from her vagina.

Hospital officials disputed Klinger's account of the instrument, saying that it was a "small, blunt, rubber-like, screw-on tip of a medical instrument." The hospital also contended that the instrument was not left in Klinger's uterus but that it became dislodged in her vagina. Lori Klinger on Thursday said she stands by her account. Neither she nor Geisinger officials would comment about the financial details of the settlement. Klinger, of Fernville, had sued on seven counts for a possible total of $350,000. |
