Chicago: Alleged Attacker in Critical Condition After Being Shot by Concealed Carry License Holder
[BB] An alleged attacker was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after being shot by a concealed carry license holder shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The incident occurred “in the 3100 block of West Cermak Road,” where two people on foot approached a 23-year-old man. A fight occurred and the 23-year-old pulled his concealed carry firearm and shot at the men, hitting one of them “in the body,” CBS News reported.

NBC Chicago noted that the wounded suspect “was taken to an area hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.”

The 23-year-old man who shot the alleged attacker “has a valid CCL [concealed carry license] and a FOID [Firearm Owner’s Identification] card.”

Illinois requires a FOID card to legally buy a gun and possess it in one’s home. The concealed carry license is then required to legally carry the gun on one’s person for self-defense.

#1  Homeowner Shoots Alleged Intruder After Finding Him in Living Room

A Del Rio, Texas, homeowner investigated a strange noise around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, discovered an alleged intruder in his living room and shot him.

FOX San Antonio reported that police received a call about “a residential burglary with shots fired” and officers were dispatched.

On arriving on scene they learned the alleged intruder, although wounded, had been able to make good an escape.

In a Facebook post, the Del Rio Police Department noted that the alleged miscreant was found and apprehended “following an investigation and search of the surrounding area.”

He was taken to San Antonio to have his gunshot wounds treated. The extent of the wounds was not reported.

The alleged intruder will face criminal charges.

Hundreds of staged armed robberies helped thousands pose as crime victims in US immigration scam: DOJ
[FOX] A "ringleader" has been sentenced and several other suspects charged in Illinois in connection with a widespread conspiracy to defraud the federal immigration system by helping noncitizens seek visa protections reserved for crime victims who assist law enforcement.

Parth Nayi of Illinois was sentenced Thursday to two years in federal prison for participating in hundreds of staged armed robberies at small businesses and eateries in and around Chicago and helping "coach" the supposed " victims" through plans to apply for U visas in exchange for cash.

"[Nayi] was the main organizer and at the center of almost every single one of the hundreds of staged robberies that were perpetrated. [The] defendant significantly corrupted the federal U-Visa program, designed to provide a benefit to a particularly vulnerable group—foreign nationals who are victims of serious crimes while visiting the United States," Assistant U.S. Attorney Saqib Mohammad Hussain wrote in the case’s sentencing memo.

Bucktown clerk was shot during staged robbery tied to nationwide immigration fraud scheme
[CWBChicago] A suburban Chicago man who organized hundreds of fake armed robberies to help people fraudulently obtain U.S. immigration visas has been sentenced to two years in federal prison. But one of the staged holdups took a horrible turn at a Bucktown liquor store when a purported robber accidentally shot a store clerk in the abdomen, critically injuring him, according to police reports.

Parth Nayi, 29, of Woodridge, organized and participated in the robberies from 2022 through 2024 at coffee shops, restaurants, liquor stores, and gas stations across the country, including in Chicago and its suburbs, federal prosecutors said.

Nayi recruited people to pose as robbery victims, paid store owners to use their businesses, coordinated and paid the people acting as robbers, and coached the purported victims through the scheme. Participants paid him between $5,000 and $30,000 each for the privilege of being "robbed," hoping to obtain U-visas, which are available to eligible victims of certain crimes who assist law enforcement. Upon making payment, the "victims" were told to be at a certain business at a certain date and time, officials said. The "robbery crew" arrived shortly thereafter.

The purported victims then sought certification from local law enforcement agencies confirming that they had been victims of qualifying crimes and had helped with investigations. After obtaining the certifications, the purported victims submitted fraudulent U-visa applications to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, prosecutors said.

Federal prosecutors said the "robbers" occasionally hit their victims, hoping to give the robberies an air of legitimacy. But things took a serious turn on July 13, 2023. That’s when one of the "robbery crews" entered Bucktown Food & Liquor, 1950 North Milwaukee, for a scheduled performance. Around 9:23 p.m., three "robbers," all masked and each armed with a handgun, entered the store and ordered five people inside to surrender their wallets, police said at the time.

As the phony robbery unfolded, one of the crew members unintentionally fired their gun, striking a 26-year-old store employee in the abdomen. He was critically injured, but he survived. The "robbers" ran out and jumped into a Kia that had been reported stolen from the 2600 block of West Haddon in Humboldt Park earlier in the day.

After the robberies, the "victims" went to their local police departments to secure documentation that they were the victims of a crime that qualified them to apply for a "U-visa." That’s an immigration status reserved for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in an investigation or prosecution. Some relatives of U-visa recipients also qualify for special status and, in time, U-visa recipients may qualify for permanent residency.

Officials identified more than 100 people who "benefited" from being robbed, with most being of Latin and South American origin. A federal complaint identified 17 specific "robberies" for charging purposes:

  • October 6, 2022, at Fas Fuel in Lombard

  • December 6, 2022, at a Subway restaurant in Chicago

  • December 17, 2022, at a Subway restaurant in Elmwood Park

  • December 30, 2022, at Tropical Smoothie in St. Charles

  • January 10, 2023, at a Dunkin’ in Chicago. Bhikhabhai Patel was "robbed" here, officials said.

  • January 11, 2023, at a BP in Hickory Hills

  • January 12, 2023, at a Dunkin’ in Niles. Nilesh Patel and Ravinaben Patel were "robbed" here.

  • January 25, 2023, at Max’s Food and Liquor in River Grove

  • January 26, 2023, at Lake Villa Liquors in Lake Villa

  • February 8, 2023, at a Dunkin’ in South Holland. Rajnikumar Patel was allegedly "robbed" here

  • February 23, 2023, at a Dunkin’ in Chicago

  • February 28, 2023, at a Dunkin’ in Chicago

  • May 13, 2023, at a Subway in Rayne, Louisiana

  • May 30, 2023, at Trolley Rock Truck Stop in Belvidere, Tennessee

  • July 13, 2023, at Bucktown Food & Liquor in Chicago

  • January 9, 2024, at a 7-Eleven in Chicago

Nayi pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to commit visa fraud. On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Mary M. Rowland sentenced him to two years in federal prison and fined him $50,000. Five other people have also been convicted as part of the federal investigation.

Inside the Plan to Bring Groups of Kenyan Nurses to Rural Minnesota
[Natalie Waters] "we can’t place just one Kenyan nurse way out here in Marshall, MN."

That is how Traci Larson, co-founder of Global Care Recruiters, described the company’s rural placement strategy in a September 8 industry report.

"We should probably look at a few [nurses]."

The firm is recruiting Kenyan nurses for Minnesota senior-care employers and planning how to connect arrivals with local support. Marshall appears as an example of placing nurses together; the report identifies no confirmed placements there.

The organization helping expand that operation is LeadingAge Minnesota, an industry association whose foundation reports receiving $1,684,332 from Minnesota’s Department of Human Services for programs supporting immigrant and refugee workers.

The recruitment operation grew out of a January 2024 delegation to Kenya led by Minnesota Rep. Mohamud Noor, a DFL lawmaker. LeadingAge says Noor worked with Kenya’s State Department for Diaspora Affairs and Pearson VUE to establish a nursing examination center in Nairobi.

#5  Back in the 70's there was a nursing shortage in California, so hospitals flew in nurses from the Philippines. Didn't work out because of culture. The poor dears were too shy to tell docs to p*$$ off when the mostly male MDs were screwing up. Local grown RNs didn't seem to have that problem.

Kenyans serving somalis

The relationship between Kenyans and Somalis in Kenya is defined by a stark contrast between **significant economic and political integration** and **systemic discrimination**.

**Political and Economic Power**
Ethnic Somalis hold substantial influence within the Kenyan state and economy. As of recent records, there are **three Somali cabinet secretaries**, the **Majority Leader of the National Assembly** is Somali, and Somalis comprise **8% of Parliament**. In the business sector, particularly in Nairobi’s **Eastleigh** district, Somalis dominate real estate, fuel trade, and import commerce, with many owning major high-rise developments.

**Discrimination and Profiling**
Despite this influence, Kenyan Somalis face persistent **ethnic profiling and harassment**. Since the 1980s, and exacerbated by security threats from **Al-Shabaab**, Somalis have been subjected to:
* **Police harassment**: Routine stops, beatings, arbitrary detention, and extortion (described as "Human ATMs") during security sweeps.
* **Documentation barriers**: Special vetting for identity cards and passports, with some required to carry special pink IDs historically.
* **Social stigma**: Many are viewed as "ambiguous citizens" or security liabilities, facing abuse by security forces and societal mistrust.

**Refugee Dynamics**
Kenya hosts hundreds of thousands of **Somali refugees** (primarily in **Dadaab** and urban centers), who face encampment policies, restricted movement, and vulnerability to exploitation by both authorities and local populations.

Dog walker badly injured after being pushed to the ground by mother bear that got on top of her and started attacking
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A dog walker was left with significant injuries after she was attacked by a mother bear in Washington State, according to officials.

The unidentified woman was walking her dog on a leash around 7.50am Sunday in Snohomish County when a black bear pushed her to the ground and clawed at her, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) said.

At the time, the woman had her back to the bear when it pounced on her in her heavily wooded backyard, she told authorities.

She eventually made it off the ground and ran into her home, where she called police and reported the terrifying incident.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She stayed overnight for treatment, officials shared.

Meanwhile, Snohomish County Deputies and WDFW officials responded to the scene and tried to locate the bear involved in the attack.

As they did so, two black bears, a large adult and a younger bear, were spotted in the area, the agency said.

Officers also brought out hounds to sniff for any bear scents, but the search came up empty. A trap has been set up near where the attack occurred, officials said.

OpenAI announces AI breakthroughs in mathematics, computer science and physics
[FOX] OpenAI announced Monday that its artificial intelligence models produced three potentially groundbreaking scientific discoveries in mathematics, computer science and physics, including findings that could challenge longstanding theories about how computers solve complex problems.

The ChatGPT maker said its AI systems generated proofs addressing major mathematical conjectures, disputed a widely accepted theory in computer science and developed new mathematical results involving quantum physics.

In its announcement, OpenAI said its models produced a proof that the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a longstanding conjecture about the difficulty of solving certain computational problems, is false. The company said the result was subsequently verified using Lean, a software system for formally checking mathematical proofs.

OpenAI also reported that its models produced proofs addressing the Kakeya conjecture and related mathematical problems across all dimensions, as well as results concerning the mathematical foundations of quantum chromodynamics, a theory describing interactions between fundamental particles.

The company said it is working with outside researchers to independently examine, explain and build on the findings, including a physics group led by Nobel Prize-winning physicist David Gross.

OpenAI has made its mathematical and computer science proofs publicly available but said the physics research group opted to delay releasing its materials while researchers prepare their own analysis.

The company said the collaborations are intended to help scientists evaluate AI-generated discoveries and better understand their implications for future research.

How one hacker used AI agents and a few thousand dollars to break into scores of sites
[Reuters] Over the past couple of weeks, a cybersecurity researcher watched as a Chinese-speaking hacker broke into websites belonging to more than 100 companies, including farm equipment maker Deere, home appliance company SharkNinja and engine manufacturer Cummins.

Yet the hacker did almost none of the work.

The cybercriminal instead outsourced the hacking spree almost entirely to artificial intelligence, tasking AI agents ‌with spending hours autonomously probing and breaking into targeted sites, according to Snorre Fagerland, principal threat researcher at the cybersecurity company NorForge.

In a report provided to Reuters ahead of publication on Monday, Fagerland said the hacker was one of several he discovered while scanning the web for inadvertently exposed instances of Cairn, an open-source AI problem-solving platform popular with hackers.

Beginning around October 2, Fagerland said he found about two dozen instances of Cairn being used for malicious activity, which allowed him to quietly peer over the cybercriminals' shoulders as they set their AI tools loose on the world.

Fagerland's report on the Chinese-speaking hacker did not name the victims, but Reuters was able to establish the victims' identities by independently reviewing the hacker's Cairn activity.

At a time of rising anxiety over the power of autonomous AI tools, Fagerland said his find was real-life evidence that commercially available AI agents could pull off complex intrusions from start to finish without human intervention, a dramatic boost to the power of a single malicious actor.

"It's a new world now," said Fagerland.

Reuters could not ascertain the degree to which the breaches resulted in unauthorized extraction of data.

Deere told Reuters it had taken "necessary remediation actions" following the incident and had "no indication that sensitive information was accessed." SharkNinja said the hack had hit a standalone site carrying only product support information and that the threat had been contained. Cummins said it was "investigating the report of a potential cyber-attack on a website operated by one of our third-party vendors."

Two smaller businesses also acknowledged being compromised. Other victims listed in the Cairn data did not return messages.

Microsoft offers buyouts to around 60,000 employees to contain costs
[Reuters] Microsoft said on Monday it is offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, or more than a quarter of its global workforce, as the technology giant looks to contain costs and help fund its massive AI investments.

Staffers across the Windows maker ‌would be eligible for the offers, including those working in AI experiences, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox and Windows + Devices, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters, requesting anonymity as the matter was private. Units such as marketing, commercial business and security will be excluded, the source added.

"This offer gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new choice to make that transition now with support. It also gives participating organizations another way to adapt their workforce to changing needs," Chief People Officer Amy Coleman said in a staff memo.

Like other tech giants, Microsoft is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on AI data centers and chips, drawing scrutiny from investors over whether the returns will justify the staggering cost. The company, slated to report first-quarter results after markets close on Wednesday, has forecast $175 billion in capital expenditures for the 2026 calendar year.

Microsoft had 223,000 full-time employees globally as of June ‌30, 2026, according to its annual filing.

Shares of Microsoft, which had risen about 10% this year, were up about 1% on Monday. The development was first reported by Business Insider.

The company earlier this year offered voluntary buyouts to about 7% of its US workforce, or about 9,000 employees.

In July, Microsoft announced it would cut 4,800 jobs, or about 2.1% of its global workforce, overhauling its Xbox gaming business and divesting up to five studios as it looks to boost returns after years of heavy investment in the division.

"This offer will be available to eligible employees in participating teams in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and the United States at level 70 and below," Microsoft said on Monday.

The company said it was a time-limited, voluntary program and built on insights gained from a previous voluntary retirement program. The eligible employees will receive details within the next few hours, it added.

#1  Microsoft had 'only' 114k employees in mid 2016
by 2021, it had about 220k employees and has been at that level since.

The loss of 60k would put them back at 2916 levels.

I'm not able to get the number of shares of MSFT owned by the average employee. I'm guessing, however, that a lot of the employees own multiple hundreds of shares, a lot of which were bought before 2016 when the shares were under $50 (currently over $500)/

In China, the AI bubble has already burst
[Reuters] While global tech stocks teeter, in China they have already crashed as lofty valuations collapse under worries about AI demand and curbs on Chinese exports.

The meltdown, tanking the mainland STAR50 index of AI and semiconductor leaders by 40% in less than four months and vaporising some $480 billion in market value, is an ill omen for wobbly world markets and a dampener on China's efforts ‌at encouraging its savers into stocks to fund the AI boom.

It has also slammed the brakes on a rally running two years, since economic stimulus promises sent shares soaring, and has stalled Beijing's push to break with a long boom-bust pattern and drive a "slow bull" market that delivers reliable performance. China's broad blue-chip index (.CSI300), opens new tab has dropped about 20% from highs made in June.

"The stock market later evolved into a speculative crazy bull," said Beijing-based fund manager Dong Baozhen. "And now we see the bubble bursting."

The reversal reflects a rally that ran to higher heights than markets in the West or elsewhere in Asia, and compares with a mere prick to US AI stocks, which have led a 6% drawdown in the Nasdaq from a record high scaled three weeks ago.

There has been no obvious selling trigger in China, although traders said high prices, tax bills and the threat of the US or other nations banning Chinese equipment in data centres all contributed.

With AI stocks running to 42% of China's market capitalisation and 57% of turnover across mainland-listed A-shares and Hong Kong's H-shares, according to Goldman Sachs, few in a market dominated by small investors have escaped pain.

Shares in robot-maker Unitree, 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail buyers at listing, have halved since they started trading in August, and chipmaker CXMT has lost more than a quarter of its value in the past month.

Chipmakers MetaX Integrated Circuits and Moore Threads Technology, which leapt 700% and 400% respectively on their market debuts last year, have also halved in value since July.

Chen Wensheng, a small business owner and investor from China's southern Hainan, said he bought into the rally emboldened by what he felt was official support for the likes of Unitree, which counted state-backed funds as investors. But Chen and his friends are now nursing losses.

Frustration that an investment theme backed by Beijing has ended so badly has driven many investors into defensive assets and is likely to slow equity fundraising by tech firms.

Shares in optical parts makers Zhongji Innolight and Eoptolink Technology are down roughly 60% from highs in June and July, in part as Washington moves towards banning the one-time ‌darlings from supplying US data centres.

With the STAR50 index still at around 100 times trailing earnings, albeit down from a high of nearly 250, investors compare the Nasdaq 100's multiple of 30 and worry the selloff could get worse before it gets better.

"What's happening is now going to put a stop for many of the companies trying to get themselves listed," said Hong Hao, managing partner and chief investment officer at Lotus Asset Management in Hong Kong.

The frenzy and its fallout contrast with a push by authorities to improve returns and dampen volatility by cracking down on leverage and high-frequency trading. State-backed investors were sellers into rallies to keep gains in check.

China's market regulator, the China Securities Regulatory Commission, did not immediately reply to questions faxed by Reuters last week.

CRSC Chairman Wu Qing met with market participants earlier this month to hear suggestions on improving capital markets, the regulator said on its website, and some in the investment community say the boom has been bad for the market's structure.

"Overemphasising the 'technology content' — that is, the weighting of tech companies by market value in major indexes — leads to a deviation, even a distortion, in capital behaviour," said Leo Wang, partner at Beijing-based Qianchuang Capital.

"This created a severe bubble in certain sectors and a serious drain on others."

Some see value in the selloff, saying it is neither surprising nor detrimental to market reforms that are geared for the long term and have gained traction in driving up returns, particularly income, in recent years.

Although they have been sellers over the past three months, Asia funds in general are overweight on China, according to HSBC research.

Goldman Sachs has Innolight and CXMT among dozens of Chinese AI stocks on a revamped recommendation list it published earlier this month, and BNP Paribas Securities strategist William Bratton has said the market offers buying opportunities for the careful.

Still, on the mainland many are looking at other sectors or for even lower valuations before they turn buyers.

"Just like all other Chinese manufacturers, (chipmakers and AI suppliers) will eventually end up in a price war," said fund manager Wang Zhuo, partner at Shanghai Zhuozhu Investment Management.

"There's no exception," he said. "All bubbles inevitably burst."

60,000 Microsoft Workers Offered Buyouts As AI Spending Boom Reshapes Workforce
[ZERO] Job cuts and downsizing announcements across corporate America have gained momentum, a trend we featured in a report last week titled "Tech Layoffs Surge As Corporate America's AI Blitz Raises Fears The Worst Is Yet To Come."

Days later, Bloomberg reports that Microsoft will offer voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees while spending heavily on artificial intelligence and data center expansion.

"This offer gives eligible employees who may be considering a future outside the company a new choice to make that transition now with support," Chief People Officer Amy Coleman wrote in a memo earlier today.

The memo cited by the outlet says workers on selected units in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at the vice president level and below will be eligible for the voluntary buyouts.

Some employees in data centers, sales, and marketing are excluded. Benefits will match a standard severance package, according to the report.

Bloomberg data shows Microsoft employed 223,000 people at the end of June and has cut thousands of jobs in recent years. The Big Tech firm's total workforce began to plateau in 2022.

#3  OpenAI launches 6.1 Terra AI model

OpenAI launched its new GPT-6.1 Terra artificial intelligence model Tuesday, touting its ability to understand what's on a computer screen, operate applications and complete complex workplace tasks faster and at a lower cost.

The ChatGPT maker said the model combines advanced visual reasoning with computer-use capabilities, allowing it to perform tasks ranging from filling out forms and drafting proposals to interpreting technical drawings and editing videos.

The company also reported improvements in accuracy and coding performance, saying the new model substantially reduced factual errors in internal testing and more than doubled its predecessor's score on a software engineering benchmark.

Europe
Debt, disorder and open borders: a midterm consideration across the Atlantic
[Just The News] As riots and a historic debt crisis both grip France, critics warn that the Democratic Party’s progressive wing is pushing the U.S. toward the same mix of runaway spending, loose borders and street disorder. Social media and some news outlets have widely shared videos of the purported students rioting while waving and wearing Palestinian flags.

As France reels from its worst riots in years, Americans heading to the polls next week might be taking a hard look at what’s happening across the Atlantic.

What began as student protests over school conditions has turned into burned city halls, looted storefronts, and a government struggling to pay its bills, and some say it's a lesson for the US.

"We will end up like France if our immigration policies continue and if the liberal [economic] policies continue. France has chosen to let these people in," Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., told Just the News.

Fine continued, "The French problem is not an illegal immigration problem; it is a legal immigration problem coupled with the radical views of people like AOC and [Abdul] Mohammed El-Sayed, we've got to stop it."

#1  Uncontrolled immigration will not fix the debt problem, it will only make the debt worse.

Why is this such a mystery ?

Crypto blitzes midterms with $176 million to support allies as it prepares for post-Trump era
[Reuters] The crypto industry has spent roughly $176 million across more than 100 midterm races this election cycle, as part of a years-long plan to build a bipartisan coalition of allies in Congress that can advance its interests long after US President Donald Trump leaves office.

The $2.75 trillion industry, and the billionaires who built it, are aggressively spending to elect friendly candidates while targeting politicians they see as a threat, according to interviews with more than a half-dozen crypto political strategists and a Reuters review of the spending.

While the industry’s recent spending blitz is known, its long-term plan to further its legislative agenda is less well-understood. The industry isn’t just looking for allies; it is trying to pick candidates who already have a chance of winning, and can help once they get to ‌Congress, the strategists said.

Crypto's largest super political action committee, Fairshake, which spent $196 million during the 2024 election cycle, is leading the industry’s strategy again. Fairshake said 53 of the 58 candidates it supported in primaries or special elections this year won and will be on the ballot on November 3.

Super PACs can accept and spend unlimited sums of money, but cannot coordinate directly with campaigns. They are flooding several races with tens of millions of dollars in ads.

Voters have little way of knowing who pays for these ads, which barely mention crypto. Most of Fairshake's are sponsored by its affiliate PACs with innocuous names like "Defend American Jobs" and "Protect Progress." The ads often focus on hot-button issues like taxes or immigration.

Perceived enemies, such as longtime skeptic Sherrod Brown, vying to return to the Senate in Ohio, can be subjected to an onslaught of often-personal attacks. Advocacy group Public Citizen said crypto was the single-biggest corporate spender in federal races in 2026, after saying in 2024 that its spending was "akin to a corporate Death Star hovering over elections."

The PACs' primary financiers, led by Coinbase, Ripple and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, aren't trying to convince voters to support digital currencies. The money is a calling card to help forge long-term relationships with elected officials, said industry strategists, campaign staff, watchdog groups and political finance managers.

It underscores how the industry is behaving as other businesses do in Washington — using funds to open doors and buffer itself against regulation. The strategy reflects the reality that come 2029, the occupant of the White House is unlikely to be as personally invested in crypto as Trump, whose family made around $2.3 billion from crypto ventures between mid-2024 and April, a Reuters investigation found.

“It's an investment in the future,” said Colin McLaren, head of government relations at crypto industry advocacy group the Solana Policy Institute, which has given $4.9 million to the midterms this year, according to campaign finance records.

The effort is designed to “ensure that over the next 100 years, the crypto industry has clear rules of the road, and that we know what our regulators are expecting from us," he said.

Through October 20, Fairshake and its affiliate PACs have spent about $150.8 million on the midterms this year, while other crypto groups have spent around $25 million, according to campaign finance filings.

"We back pro-crypto candidates who support American innovation in both parties, and look forward to continuing to build on the largest pro-crypto caucus in American history," said Geoff Vetter, spokesperson for Fairshake.

Bernie Moreno teases introducing bill that would expand Trump Accounts access to people under 40
[Just The News] Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno said Tuesday that he would introduce a bill after the midterms that would expand access to President Donald Trump's "Trump Accounts" to Americans who are under the age of 40.

The Senate is currently in recess while more than 20 senators seek reelection next month. There are 11 senators who have announced they are not seeking reelection, including 10 who are retiring at the end of the term in January.

Moreno, who is not up for reelection this year, said the legislation would make life easier for young adults if they are allowed access to the benefits.

"This is a game-changer and I’ll lead the bill in the Senate to make it happen," Moreno posted on X. "Trump Accounts are already transforming lives for families across America. Raising the age limit will give hardworking Americans powerful new tools to buy homes, wipe out student debt, and invest in their own futures."

The accounts are government-maintained investment accounts that received money from the Treasury and private contributions. Each account is tied to an American child and will be made available to them when they become an adult to help them financially.

More than 70 million children now have an account after the Treasury Department automatically enrolled more than 60 million children in the program, and billionaires like Dell CEO Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell have made investments into the program.

Trump told reporters Tuesday that he is considering a similar effort for adults, but has not released any details on the move so far.

Ninth Circuit Upholds Block On Trump's Federalization Of California National Guard, Rejecting "Rebellion" Claim
[ZERO] The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on October 23 affirmed a district court order blocking President Donald Trump's June 2025 federalization of 4,000 California National Guard troops for Los Angeles, ruling 2-1 that neither statute the administration relied on covered it. Sung's opinion, filed October 23, says the order "exceeded the President's statutory authority and encroached on Congress's calling forth power," which made it "ultra vires and unconstitutional."

#2  RedState - 9th Circuit Rules on Trump DOJ's Appeal Regarding CA Mail Ballots to Likely Noncitizens

After hearing more than two hours of oral arguments Sunday, a three-judge panel from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the U.S. Department of Justice in its request for a preliminary injunction to prevent election officials in California from processing ballots from 20,000 people on the voter rolls it believes are "likely noncitizens." The DOJ had also appealed what it termed a "constructive denial" of its Motion for Temporary Restraining Order filed in at the district court level, in the Central District of California. In a 2-1 ruling the panel, comprised of two Trump appointees (Mark J. Bennett, Patrick J. Bumatay) and one Biden appointee (Gabriel P. Sanchez), dismissed the appeal for lack of jurisdiction.
