[NYP] The US Justice Department accused a government contractor on Friday of leaking national defense information to his girlfriend, the publisher of a Substack newsletter.
The FBI arrested Ian Brinksman, 42, on Friday following a search of his Washington home, a Justice Department statement said.
Prosecutors charged him with unlawfully transmitting national defense information.
A federal public defender representing Brinksman declined to comment.
“As alleged, Brinksman reached far outside his own duties to obtain some of our Nation’s most closely held secrets and handed them to a romantic partner he knew intended to publish them,” John Eisenberg, assistant attorney general for national security, said in the statement.
“That is not carelessness. It is a betrayal of his oath and the American people who entrusted him to fulfill his duties honorably,” Eisenberg said.
Brinksman held a top secret security clearance while working as an employee of a US government agency and later as a developer for systems integration for a private contractor working for the same agency, prosecutors said.
According to the sworn affidavit of an FBI agent investigating the case, Brinksman repeatedly accessed classified intelligence reports and then communicated with the journalist.
The affidavit also cites phone records, database access logs, badge-swipe records, emails and other evidence.
The affidavit only identifies the journalist as “Individual 1,” but it cites excerpts from articles she published.
“A fundraising article reportedly published by Individual 1 in September 2026 stated ‘over the past year [Individual 1 has] published reporting based on classified [relevant US government agency] assessments that I believe the public deserves to know about,'” the affidavit reads.
That quote appears in a September 28 piece published on the Capital & Empire online newsletter authored by Aída Chávez.
“Over the past year, I’ve published reporting based on classified CIA assessments that I believe the public deserves to know about,” wrote Chávez, whose profile on the site notes that she worked for the Nation and other outlets before she launched the newsletter.
Chávez did not immediately respond to an email message seeking comment.
Investigators allege that on at least five occasions in 2026, Individual 1 published Substack articles containing information that mirrored the classified reports, some at the top secret level.
On some of those dates, Chávez published articles that cite classified reports, some of them attributed to the CIA.
According to a LinkedIn profile bearing Brinksman’s name, he worked for Deloitte as a manager and as a senior strategy security consultant after having worked as a US State Department foreign service officer at dates corresponding to those outlined in the Justice Department statement.
Deloitte did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The State Department said it needed more time to respond before commenting.

Reports of the killing of Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman following the targeting of the Saudi Ministry of Defense building in Riyadh with a number of Houthi missiles
Note: a quick internet search reveals no articles on the story, nor does his Wikipedia page mention his demise, suggesting he was not killed after all. 48 Hour Rule.
The latest attack on the Saudi Ministry of Defense building was not an ordinary attack but, according to what is circulating, carries behind it a major catastrophe that, if true, will be the cause of turning things upside down.
There are media-circulated reports within the American interior that Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman was present inside the Ministry of Defense headquarters at the moment of the attack, and there are also unconfirmed reports of his death.
And there are leaks from inside the Royal Court about the killing of the Chief of the Saudi General Staff, First Lieutenant General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili, and with him a large group of leaderships that were targeted today inside the Saudi Ministry of Defense headquarters.
Ditto nothing and nothing for the good LtGen. So we’ll see.
And it was mentioned that the targeting was carried out with a large number of drones and four ballistic missiles.
[Breitbart] The Department of Homeland Security has a message for the latest caravan of approximately 400 to 700 migrants headed north from Mexico’s southern border state of Chiapas. "There is absolutely ZERO chance this caravan will be allowed into the United States," DHS officials posted in a social media post on X on Wednesday, adding, "We will protect our borders—America is a nation, not an economic zone."
The migrant caravan, composed mostly of Central American migrants left Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala on Tuesday. Initially calling itself "Caravana Sin Fronteras", or "Caravan Without Borders", the group took on the name "Fe y Esperanza #2", or "Faith and Hope #2", paying homage to an earlier caravan dissolved by Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM).
[BB] China and Djibouti released a joint communique on Thursday supporting freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which are currently under threat from the Iran-backed Houthi insurgents of Yemen.
The statement was issued after Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
“The two sides emphasised the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and stressed that the navigation rights exercised by merchant vessels of all countries in accordance with international law should be respected,” the communique said.
“China supports Red Sea coastal states in constructively safeguarding the unobstructed and secure operation of international shipping lanes and protecting the region’s common interests,” it added.
Djibouti is a small state across the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from Yemen. China’s only acknowledged overseas naval base was established in Djibouti ten years ago and was recently upgraded with enhanced intelligence-gathering capabilities.
The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has become the top foreign investor in Djibouti, pumping money into port facilities, railroads, and gas pipelines as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). As usual with BRI client states, Djibouti has accumulated enormous debt to Chinese banks, which gives Beijing a great deal of leverage over the small Horn of Africa state.
U.S. officials have grown increasingly wary of China’s presence in Djibouti, as the Chinese naval base sits along one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) base in Djibouti is less than ten miles away from Camp Lemonnier, the primary base of operations for the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in the Horn of Africa.

[ColonelCassad] A Swiss private intelligence firm compiled a database of hostile Facebook users for the UAE.
The United Arab Emirates hired a Swiss private intelligence firm to compile a database of Facebook users it classified as "hostile." Leaked documents reveal a project in which UAE residents were targeted based on their "likes" of news articles deemed critical of the government.
Alp Services, a private intelligence company acting on behalf of the UAE, compiled a database of thousands of Facebook users residing in the country. It was based on these individuals' social media activity, including "likes" of news articles critical of the UAE.
Alp Services used this data to classify individuals as hostile as part of a broader campaign to suppress political activity within the country. The social media mapping operation produced a series of spreadsheets containing over 11,300 records of Facebook users residing in the UAE, including their names, places of residence, places of work, and other personal information.
The database, handed over to a UAE client in January 2018, was included based on likes on Facebook pages run by news outlets and political groups considered hostile to the UAE. Documents preserved in the archive show that the firm received €55,000 for this work, carried out under the codename "Arnica 2."
The UAE continues to actively monitor social media for any signs of dissent. In 2026, hundreds of people were detained for online posts related to the war against Iran. We previously published an informational and analytical report on the company Alp Services, prepared by our students.

‼️‼️ Now this is something! 🔽 This technical thread suggests (explains) that the entire Starlink/shield slowdown issue is not a consequence of a political decision in the US or by Musk but the result of Ukrainian engineers hacking the system to bypass it's controls and do something they are not permitted to do - and when Starlink took steps to prevent the bypassing and ensure the controls remained effective, suddenly the system stopped working in 'bypass mode' - and Zelensky then set out to politicise matters. The explanation makes the bits of the puzzle fit together and fits with the New York Times article in which Ukrainians explained that although the system is formally limited to 100 mph they have managed to exceed it.
~~~~
"What was really going on with the Starlink scandal in Ukraine? An analysis of the technical modifications, hacker boards, Elon Musk’s restrictions, and why drones started falling at the end of 2026 and Zelensky staged a pre-election Trump scandal. Big thread 👇 1/15
Let’s start with the tariffs. Inside the country, only civilian Starlink has always worked: the basic tariff ($100), commercial in-motion ($400), and priority headquarters ($2–4k). Aviation tariffs cost up to $1K–20K–100K+, but they are unavailable in the country. 2/15
Because of the high load, the network was overloaded. SpaceX had to keep prices high for the military in order to build an excess of ground stations around Ukraine for minimal signal latency. By the way, these sites with antenna domes recently began to be burned on orders from the darknet. 3/15
The main problem at the front is electronic warfare (EW). Because of GPS jamming, civilian Starlink chips froze, and with false location the terminal was blocked. The solution was a GPS hack board. Engineers soldered it inside to manually set the required coordinates. 4/15
The hack boards also allowed bypassing Musk’s geographic zones. For a long time Starlink did not work in the gray zone under Russian control. But if you entered the coordinates of a neighboring region of Ukraine, the connection came back to life. The Russians used this too, until Kyiv received exclusive whitelists. 5/15
By 2025 Musk began tightening the screws and lowering speed limits for commercial tariffs. But military engineers discovered a loophole: technically the satellite-terminal communication session is not rigidly tied to GPS. The protection was only on the terminal module itself. 6/15
If the terminal thought via the hack board that it was static, it itself sent a radio request to the satellite and received the necessary data for the session. There are already about 10,000 satellites, and the signal was picked up even with a spread of 150+ km. The drone was flying, but the Starlink server considered it stationary. 7/15
This was a shared secret. Before being sent to the front, the cases of new Starlinks were massively opened in order to solder in the GPS hack and install durable moisture-proof connectors. This way the ordinary tariff allowed drones to fly at high speeds. 8/15
At the beginning of 2026 Musk lowered the speed of the commercial tariff to 160 km/h across the entire planet. This is below the speed of many simple UAVs with a tailwind. But because of the mass use of hack boards in Ukraine, no one noticed this. The terminals reported that they were supposedly standing still. 9/15
At the END of 2026 SpaceX responded harshly. A server-side check was introduced: if according to GPS the terminal is stationary, but at the same time it switches from satellite to satellite too quickly (which reveals a real speed above 160 km/h), the server instantly drops the session. 10/15
The GPS hack stopped working. Ukrainian military began having problems with long-range UAVs. Now flights must be strictly planned so as not to exceed the 160 km/h limit. There is not always money for aviation tariffs, and SpaceX does not sell them because of the attacking nature of the use. 11/15
Against this background Zelensky is trying to get access to StarShield (the US military Starlink) without restrictions in order to fly over the Russian Federation. But Trump, Musk, and the Pentagon refuse him. The Ukrainians presented the restrictions as a political blockade, remaining silent about the fact that the Starlink speed limit has already been in place for a year. 12/15
Now there is behind-the-scenes ping-pong: Musk says that he changed nothing these days, Rubio states that StarShield is unavailable to Ukraine. The bottom line: Starlink is gradually being squeezed into the framework of cars and stationary use. Bypassing the system no longer works. 13/15
Whether the speed check was turned off or access was given to special aviation tariffs is still unclear. The failure affected a narrow segment of drones. However, satellite communication on super-high-speed drones was already a compromise because of the signal delays of 1000 km to orbit and back. 14/15
Russian UAV specialists are in no hurry to rejoice. The simplicity of using Starlink slowed down the development of other technologies in Ukraine. Now Kyiv can, on an emergency priority basis, refine more complex autonomous mesh-AI systems that will fly deep into the Russian Federation. End of thread. 15/15
Written based on materials from last year’s newspapers, most likely not true and total nonsense. No one and nothing is right on the internet. Author — a boring schoolboy from Georgia."
Yes Grom, thanks indeed. Little wonder he is Trump's trusted friend and confidant. Regarding his unparalleled personal wealth, I have no further questions.
[MSN] President Donald Trump has expressed concerns about the NFL's decision to hold a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints in Paris amid ongoing protests in France. The protests, primarily against the high cost of living and education, have led to significant unrest in the capital city. Trump suggested that the NFL "could have probably postponed" the game, citing potential safety issues. "I think maybe it's looking like tomorrow is going to be a bad day in France, so you worry about it," he told reporters on Friday (October 23), as reported by Yahoo Sports.
[DM] Britain and France's air forces have carried out a simulated nuclear strike in the first joint drill of its kind.
The exercise involved RAF Typhoon warplanes working alongside French Rafale fighter jets over the Mediterranean on Tuesday evening.
The drill, codenamed 'Rummy', was revealed on Friday by Catherine Vautrin, the French armed forces minister.
No reference was made as to who the fictional enemy was. However, it is being seen as a major warning shot to Vladimir Putin after months of sabre-rattling by Kremlin officials who have threatened the use of nuclear weapons against Western countries supporting Ukraine.
'Having independent nuclear forces does not preclude coordination,' Ms Vautrin said. 'Our nuclear cooperation with the United Kingdom continues to deepen.'
The test was conducted in compliance with security procedures and did not involve any actual nuclear weapons, a statement by the French armed forces said.
It added it was aimed at tightening the co-ordination between western Europe's two nuclear powers.
That's just Brillant, escalate the tensions even higher. I believe it more and more likely that there will be a nuclear weapon used in Europe. Rather than lose badly against Ukraine, I fear Putin will use a number of "tactical" nukes against the Ukraine and possibly other European countries.
[FOX] Fox News Digital's "Who's Who in Chaos Inc." is a living database mapping the organizations, local chapters, international networks and funders organizing or amplifying major protest movements.
The directory identifies each group's mission, ideology, organizational role and documented protest activity, distinguishing direct organizers and participants from supporters and amplifiers.
Retired Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz posed this question in an interview this week with JNS TV’s Jonathan Tobin, pointing out that the island country is the "paradigm of a colonial settler state." He noted that British settlers, who had never been to an island in the Pacific, colonized New Zealand, murdered many Māori, and used what he called a fake treaty to set up a country.
By contrast, he said, the history of Jews in Israel goes back more than 3,500 years. He added that Jews have never stopped living in the land, while Palestinians have had many opportunities to establish their own state.
Dershowitz then brought up Taishya Adams, the Democratic Socialists of America-endorsed candidate for mayor of Boulder, Colo., who won’t say that Israel has a right to exist but has never questioned New Zealand’s founding.
Adams isn’t the only Democratic candidate this cycle with an obsession with and pronounced hostility toward Israel, and Jewish Democrats in Boulder aren’t the only voters facing a test of their loyalty to the party.
Tobin noted that leading Jewish Democrats in Michigan are supporting Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race despite his alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. That includes Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.). Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who has endorsed El-Sayed, told Jewish Democrats they have a moral duty to put the world’s needs above "even our own survival."
Fuck that shit. Being Jewish is not a suicide pact.
Some at least. A long time ago I read something that stuck with me. German Jews, many WWI veterans, never thought what happening to 'foreign' Jews would happen to them, in part because they had served in the military during WWI.
Well, for that matter, does America have a right to exist? Ask an Apache, Comanche, Seminole, Lakota, Hawaiian or Eskimo. Or Britain, originally settled by Druids, Celts, Picts and various other tribes before Anglo-Saxons got there. Then there were the Vikings and then William the Conqueror, a Frenchman descended from Vikings who became an Englishman. It's so confusing.
But then Democratic Socialists of America are NOT Democrats. Democrats are so desperate to keep their left wing that they are increasingly bowing down to Democratic Socialists but American Jews should know that it's not the same thing at all. Jewish Democrats like Schumer are just hoping the alligator will eat them last.
I went to lunch today with my Cincinnati mom’s family, celebrating the birthday of her youngest daughter. I ended up having a long, intense talk with the eldest, who understandably takes great pleasure in big sistering me along with the others. A very bright, successful woman in the finance field before she retired, she was anguished at the sudden change to casual viciousness by her fellow liberal Democrats, with whom she has volunteered for the usual liberal and political causes in her limited free time over the years, but who now are talking the usual nonsense about Israel and Jews, among other subjects, making it clear to her that what she is is no longer welcome. She was visibly relieved to discover that I know all about both what she is going through and what’s actually going on in the world, and intends to explore what Rantburg has to offer. Thank you all for contributing to my education — y’all deserve the credit for what I know and how I understand it.
She’s already involved in an online anti-antisemitism project whose name I immediately forgot — y’all know how porous my memory is, especially when I’m tired — so maybe Rantburg will be useful to their work as well as to the security analysis groups that have long used us as part of their raw data feed.
[IranWatch] Abdul Amir Taiban, a senior adviser to Iraq’s prime minister, says drugs and sophisticated counterfeit dinars and dollars are pouring into southern Iraq from the Iranian side of the border.
What a good friend Iran is to its brotherly neighbour, to be sure.
He accused Iran of violating Iraqi sovereignty, creating chaos along the frontier and deliberately damaging Iraq’s economy. He said the resulting economic destruction is now worse than the damage inflicted by ISIS.
These accusations accompanied Iraq’s indefinite closure of the al-Sheib border crossing to passengers, vehicles and commercial trucks. Iraq says the crossing requires tighter security arrangements and better equipment for detecting prohibited materials.
Pakistan has also closed its borders to Iran. No doubt Rubio and Bessant are working to get Turkey and Turkmenistan to follow suit.
In a twisted humorously way, I can the strikes on Iran starting as soon as the voting places close.
[Reuters] DUBAI, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Tehran has drawn up detailed plans to target undersea communications cables in the Gulf if the United States and Israel attack Iran again, two senior Iranian security officials told Reuters.
Their comments followed warnings by Iranian officials that undersea cables in the region could become targets in any renewed conflict if diplomacy with Washington collapses.
The two Iranian security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, gave few details and did not say how or where exactly Tehran would carry out such attacks. But one of them said Iran would aim to prevent repairs after any attacks to prolong disruptions to communications, including internet connections.
"If Iran is attacked, there will be no more red lines ... from undersea cables to military bases, including covert ones," one of the officials said.
The official warned Washington not to "play with fire", and said Iran had full access to the undersea cables and could easily destroy them. "Since our entire naval fleet is now submarines"
Yadollah Javani, the deputy head of political affairs for Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), said on Wednesday that Iran could target seven major internet cables beneath the Strait of Hormuz if Iranian infrastructure came under attack.
Undersea cables carry around 99% of global internet traffic, according to the International Telecommunication Union, a UN agency. But the global impact of such attacks by Iran could be limited as less than 1% of international bandwidth passes through the Strait of Hormuz, said Alan Mauldin, research director at telecommunications research firm TeleGeography.
The strait separates Iran and Oman, linking the Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea.
The US Department of State and Iran's Foreign Ministry did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment on the Iranian security officials' remarks. There was no immediate comment from Gulf states.
The plans for possible attacks on undersea cables reflect a conviction in Iran's leadership that a renewed US military campaign would have to be met with a stronger response than before.
Top security official Mohsen Rezaei warned this month that US-linked digital infrastructure across the Gulf, including data centres and AI facilities, could be targeted in a renewed conflict.
[BB] U.S. intelligence has warned that Iranian plots to kill Americans abroad have reached “advanced stages,” as Washington reduces diplomatic staffing across the Middle East amid mounting threats and the prospect of renewed military strikes against Tehran.
The warning was contained in an unclassified October 23 memorandum from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, obtained and published by Axios, which reported that the intelligence was among the factors driving the diplomatic drawdowns.
“Through various channels, we have received intelligence that Iran has substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel,” Clayton wrote. “The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against U.S. citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries.”
The memorandum, which also copied CIA Director John Ratcliffe, warned that intelligence concerning the Iranian threats was relevant to more State Department personnel than were currently cleared to receive it.
Clayton said the information had already been shared with appropriately cleared senior State Department officials and offered to downgrade as much of the sensitive intelligence as possible so Rubio could distribute it more widely.
The document did not identify specific targets, disclose the nature of the alleged plots, or name the countries outside the Middle East where Americans could be at risk.
U.S. officials have separately confirmed the memorandum’s authenticity to multiple news outlets, including CNN, which also obtained a copy. A U.S. official told Al Arabiya English Washington correspondent Joseph Haboush that Iranian plots targeting American officials, alongside threats of attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthis, were informing staffing adjustments at U.S. embassies operating under restrictions across the Middle East.
The warning comes as the State Department reduces its diplomatic presence across the Middle East in response to threats from Iran and its Houthi allies.
Earlier this week, Washington ordered nonessential personnel and family members to leave its embassy in Riyadh and consulates in Jeddah and Dhahran amid intensified Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia.
CNN first reported Friday on staffing adjustments at several diplomatic posts, including facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, as American officials weighed the possibility of a broader regional confrontation.
On Friday, the department also ordered staffing reductions at U.S. embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan, according to a U.S. official cited in the report.
“We decided that due to the threat of Houthi attacks and Iranian terror plots we need to reduce our footprint and keep only essential staff,” the official said.
The security measures come amid increasingly explicit Iranian threats against American forces and military installations across the region.
On Thursday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened to extend the conflict to American military bases in the region if U.S. forces continued escorting vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
“The US military must know that if this trend continues, the conflict will extend to its bases in the region,” the IRGC warned.
