[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A 30-year-old American man has been arrested in connection with a deadly school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, earlier this year.
James Cody Bryant, 30, of Bellingham, Washington, was charged today with conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country, after allegedly offering tactical advice, money and technical assistance before agreeing to help the shooter broadcast the lethal attack online.
The arrest marks a fresh twist in an investigation that began after eight people were slain by 18-year-old transgender shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar,
… transgender high schooler who committed murder followed by suicide after being radicalized by the online platform WatchPeopleDie. Racist, Jew-hater, lover of Hitler and groyper nonsense, junior high dropout, he firwt killed his mother and 11 year old stepbrother, he went straight to Hell, avoiding all that annoying arrest and trial stuff…
in the devastating February 10 massacre carried out in the small British Columbia community.
Prosecutors allege Bryant and Van Rootselaar began conspiring through Discord in August 2025, roughly six months before the shooting. What began online, authorities say, developed into discussions about killing multiple people in Canada.
The criminal complaint alleges Bryant helped test equipment for a planned livestream, agreed to record and broadcast the attack, provided tactical advice and sent Van Rootselaar money for items connected to the plot.
He allegedly advised her on how to conceal the plan, including deleting messages and using virtual private networks.
Most chillingly, prosecutors allege Bryant confirmed he was receiving the livestream shortly before the carnage began.
The complaint also alleges Bryant advised Van Rootselaar on how to increase the number of casualties and recommended firearms. Prosecutors say he sent money to help her purchase a lighter that was intended for use in constructing an explosive device.
Yet the complaint describes a relationship that was not entirely straightforward.
According to federal law enforcement, the pair met three years ago on a chat site named Omegle, losing touch twice while Van Rootselaar was admitted to a mental health facility.
They communicated daily on the app Discord in the six months before the mass shooting. They discussed, among other things, sending 3D printed weapons over the US-Canada border.
The text messages appear to show that Bryant initially suggested targeting a shopping center instead of a school.
Authorities allege Bryant sometimes tried to persuade Van Rootselaar not to carry out the attack.
He nevertheless did not contact police, prosecutors say, and ultimately agreed to assist with the livestream stating he would not 'snitch.'
Van Rootselaar’s violent spree began at a residence, where her mother and 11-year-old stepbrother were slaughtered.
She then drove to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where she opened fire at the school, killing five children – all aged 12 or 13 – and 39-year-old educational assistant Shannda Aviugana-Durand.
The five students were Abel Mwansa, Ezekiel Schofield, Kylie Smith, Zoey Benoit and Ticaria Lampert.
The other two victims, 39-year-old Jennifer Jacobs and her 11-year-old son, Emmett Jacobs, were killed at the residence.
The eight victims were the people killed in the heinous attack. Van Rootselaar also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, bringing the total number of deaths to nine.
Police say Van Rootselaar used an improvised explosive device at the school, fired through locked classroom doors and exchanged gunfire with officers before her death.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)’s investigation has continued for months, with investigators examining physical evidence, electronic devices and online accounts.
By July, Mounties said they had reviewed more than 100 statements from students, educators and first responders and were working with the FBI on digital forensic analysis. They also said the possibility of further charges had not been ruled out.
Previously released court documents have provided further insight into the investigation. An RCMP investigator described Van Rootselaar as having 'mental health problems' and being 'fascinated by firearms,' while investigators traced her online activity and seized electronic devices.
The digital evidence has become increasingly significant. Investigators have examined social-media accounts and other online communications as they attempted to understand how the attack was planned and whether anyone else knew about it.
Tuesday’s case now alleges that Bryant was one such person – and that the relationship went substantially further than simply knowing an attack was being contemplated.
Prosecutors say Bryant was communicating with Van Rootselaar as she prepared for the killings and even helped her overcome a practical problem immediately before she travelled to the school.
According to the complaint, after killing her relatives, Van Rootselaar was unable to start a family vehicle. Bryant allegedly advised her on getting it running so she could continue to the school.
The case is now being investigated on both sides of the border.
The FBI worked with Homeland Security Investigations and the RCMP, with American prosecutors bringing the conspiracy charge because the alleged planning occurred partly in Washington while the intended killings were in Canada. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to life in prison.
Bryant’s arrest comes as Tumbler Ridge continues to deal with the aftermath of the massacre. The original secondary school has not returned to normal operation, and the community has faced an ongoing need for mental-health and victim-support services.
Mike Herrington, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Seattle, said no investigation can bring the eight people killed to their families but he stated both US and Canadian officials are committed to bringing justice and holding the perpetrators accountable.
He praised the RCMP for their assistance throughout the investigation that has led to the charges announced today.
The investigation has also generated separate legal battles over what authorities and technology companies knew before the shooting, including litigation involving OpenAI over allegations concerning Van Rootselaar’s use of ChatGPT.
The company said it didn’t alert authorities at the time because the chats did not meet the threshold of what it deems a credible or imminent plan for serious harm to others.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, however, previously apologized to the victims’ families.
'I am deeply sorry that we did not alert law enforcement,' Altman wrote in an open letter in April.
For investigators, however, the immediate question is now whether the alleged online relationship between Bryant and Van Rootselaar amounted to a criminal conspiracy.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Bryant's mother for comment.
How many kids do these Nutjob Trans-shooters need to murder, before it becomes clear to even a Democrat that need to we start placing them in a secure locked-down mental illness facility?
Also, how about charging the parents that forced it on their kids for Social Media bragging fame, or the school teachers playing social agenda politics?
A transgender Washington state resident allegedly helped fuel a Canadian school massacre that left children dead, choosing to aid the shooter, who also identified as a transgender, instead of sounding the alarm, federal officials said Tuesday.
Herrington confirmed that Bryant and Van Rootselaar both identified as transgender, and said Bryant identifies as female.
The two met through a random pairing on the online chat service Omegle roughly three years before the attack.
Their online friendship developed into discussions of violence over at least six months, according to Herrington.
"This complaint was particularly difficult to read, in part because of the casual tone these two individuals used when discussing the mass taking of innocent lives that was being planned," he said.
Bryant allegedly agreed to record and broadcast a livestream to maximize the shooter’s notoriety.
"Bryant even stayed awake after an overnight work shift to make sure this horrific act could be widely viewed online," Herrington said.
"We certainly know the shooter was concerned that not enough people would see the livestream without Bryant broadcasting it, and was depending on Bryant to amplify the livestream because the shooter did not have many followers on social media."
Floyd said the attempted livestream on Twitch lasted about 20 seconds before shutting down. Herrington said investigators do not know whether Van Rootselaar would have carried out the attack without Bryant’s willingness to operate it.
Officials also described financial assistance, including a little more than $100 for shoes. An attempted transfer of roughly $15 for a lighter was ultimately reversed.

Herrington pointed to the shooter’s suffering and "a very keen focus on notoriety" as themes in the communications. The pair discussed other mass shootings, how the public reacted and a desire for the Tumbler Ridge attack to receive similar attention, he said.
The investigation crossed the border within days of the massacre, when Canadian police received information from an online platform used by the shooter and contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), British Columbia RCMP Assistant Commissioner Elija Rain said.

[ConservativeTreehouse] You might remember the story of CIA senior officer David J. Rush, 49, of Ashburn, Virginia, who was indicted after an FBI investigation found gold bars, cash in dollars and euros as well as luxury cars and dozens of luxury watches.
Today the DOJ announced that Rush has plead guilty {pdf SEE HERE} in a deal where he will admit to one count of wire fraud, and that will permit the DOJ to finish prosecuting the case without revealing extremely sensitive information about the CIA operations Rush was involved in.
Rush stands accused of manipulating more than $195 million in wire transfers to his own accounts, after setting up covert fake CIA operations centered around unknown foreign intelligence efforts. When you read the plea agreement that stipulates the facts of his activity, it certainly sounds like David Rush was able to execute the fraud under the auspices of Ukraine operations.
To be clear, there’s no mention of Ukraine, but the scale of the money involved, the timing of the activity, the location of the real estate and the attributes of the money and gold (as described) sound very Ukrainian-ish.
DOJ PRESS RELEASE – […] On May 19, 2026, the FBI searched Rush’s residence and recovered 298 gold bars, approximately $2,106,550 in cash, €104,795, and numerous luxury watches. Rush had obtained the gold bars at an approximate cost to the government of $46 million. Pursuant to the plea agreement, Rush has agreed to forfeit the gold bars and currency found at his home, the fraudulently obtained properties, 30 watches (many of which were Rolexes), and two 2026 BMW Alpina vehicles, at least one of which is valued at approximately $172,000.
Rush is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 28, 2027. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, forfeiture, restitution, and a fine. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. (much more)
In addition to the theft, schemes and fraud, inside the plea document Rush admitted that in late 2025 he disclosed “certain descriptive information of a U.S. government clandestine human source” that could “endanger the safety and life of a CIA human source and the U.S. government officers working with the source,” as well as jeopardize America’s “ability to recruit human sources, who rely on the U.S. government’s assurance of absolute secrecy.”
This guy was so deep inside covert (sketchy) CIA stuff, the DOJ dropped a bazillion other charge options and gave him a plea deal for a single count of wire fraud.

Rush appears to have been in the center of a rather well developed.... 'control problem.' How convenient, the wire fraud deal. Time behind bars?
Doubtful. Untimely death? Quite likely.

Image is from the CTH article. Note the precise packaging of the gold and cash, almost as if it was sorted for pre-determined pickup. There is so much more to this story, and the 3 pages of comments hint at Ukraine, protection of other programs, the ludicrous background check failures in the open source press as cover for deeper feeder programs into he agency. [FoxNews] The defense tech firm will invest $3.7B of its own capital in a 2M-square-foot facility at Sparrows Point
The Trump administration is turning to a defense technology giant in a $6.6 billion effort to speed production of submarines as the U.S. struggles to keep pace with China's vast shipbuilding capacity.
The ramp-up in production brings a Silicon Valley-style manufacturer into one of the Pentagon's most troubled industrial bases as they fall behind expected pace of two Virginia-class attack submarines per year.
Anduril will build a more than 2-million-square-foot shipyard at Sparrows Point shipyard just outside of Baltimore to manufacture critical submarine components, eventually scaling up to large sections of the vessels. A senior administration official said the facility could add roughly 9 million labor hours a year, equivalent to about a 15% increase in submarine production capacity.
President Donald Trump will visit the shipyard on Tuesday afternoon to formally announce the new initiative in Baltimore alongside Anduril leadership.
The investment takes aim at a problem the Navy has struggled for years to solve: shipyards are delivering roughly 1.3 Virginia-class submarines a year, well short of the Navy's goal of two, even as demand for the nuclear-powered attack boats grows. The Navy currently projects reaching the two-per-year rate around 2032. It currently has 26 Virginia-class submarines and expects to add two more in the spring, according to a senior administration official.and
For the submarine project, Anduril plans to invest $3.7 billion of its own capital to build the facility, workforce and manufacturing capacity. The Navy could spend up to another $2.9 billion purchasing the resulting production.
The deal represents an unusual bet on a commercial model for fixing one of the Pentagon's most stubborn industrial problems: Anduril will risk billions of dollars of its own capital building new submarine production capacity, while the Navy pays for what the company can successfully produce.
"I wouldn't say that the government's paying us back. We feel the government [is] buying the results of what we're able to produce," an industry official told reporters of the deal.
The deal also deepens Anduril's growing relationship with the Pentagon just days after War Secretary Pete Hegseth tapped company founder Palmer Luckey, along with Elon Musk and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, to launch Project Meridian — a 120-day study of how future wars will be fought and what weapons and technologies the U.S. military will need.
The arrangement puts Luckey in a position to help shape recommendations about the Pentagon's future technology needs as the company he founded expands its own business selling weapons and other systems to the department. Project Meridian does not have procurement authority, and the Pentagon has said "appropriate" safeguards will be used to address potential conflicts of interest.
[GaroweOnline] Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important... said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... has begun construction of a spaceport in Somalia, describing the project as a strategic partnership that would strengthen Ankara’s ability to access space and contribute to the development of Africa’s space sector.
Erdogan made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 77th International Astronautical Congress, where he outlined Turkey’s ambitions under its national space program.
"In today’s world, producing satellites is not enough to have a presence in space; one must also be able to access space," Erdogan said.
He said Turkey had therefore made access to space and the development of a spaceport a priority under its national space program.
"Taking into account Turkiye’s geographical conditions, we are laying the foundations for a historic collaboration in the field of space with friendly and brotherly Somalia," Erdogan said.
He added that construction of the spaceport in Somalia had already begun and that Turkey was continuing efforts to implement what he described as a strategic project.
"With our project, we aim to enhance Turkiye’s capacity to access space while also contributing to the development of the space ecosystem on the African continent," he said.
The planned facility is part of Turkey’s broader push to develop an independent space program and expand its capabilities in satellite technology and space launches.
Somalia’s location along the Indian Ocean has been cited as a potential advantage for a spaceport because of its proximity to the equator and access to open waters. Launching spacecraft from locations closer to the equator can provide a rotational advantage, potentially reducing the amount of energy required for some launches.
The project also adds a new dimension to the growing partnership between Turkey and Somalia, which has expanded in recent years to include security, infrastructure, trade, energy and development.
Turkey has maintained close relations with Somalia and has invested in major infrastructure projects in the country. Ankara also operates a military training facility in Mogadishu and has provided training and support to Somali security forces.
Erdogan's announcement comes as countries across Africa increasingly seek to develop domestic capabilities in satellite technology and space-based services. African governments have turned to satellites for applications including communications, agriculture, environmental monitoring, disaster management and security.
Turkey has sought to establish itself as an emerging player in the global space industry, with its national space program targeting capabilities ranging from satellite development to human spaceflight and lunar exploration.
Erdogan said the Somalia project would serve not only Turkey’s strategic interests but also help expand Africa’s space ecosystem.
The announcement did not provide details on the construction timeline, the planned location of the facility, its launch capacity or the financial arrangements between the two countries.
The project is expected to require significant infrastructure, technical expertise and international coordination before it can support orbital launches.
For Somalia, the planned spaceport could represent one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure projects and potentially position it as a participant in the growing commercial space industry.

[Regnum] In Ethiopia, leaders of the rebel Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and allied groups have declared war on the federal government and seized several strategic infrastructure facilities in Tigray state and surrounding provinces.
Although Ethiopian federal forces were subsequently able to recapture some of the opposition's gains, they have yet to fully stabilize the situation. Against this backdrop, Addis Ababa is seeking instigators of the conflict not only within the country but also abroad.
DEFROSTING THE OLD CRISIS
Over the past few months, tensions have gradually escalated between Addis Ababa and the armed opposition leadership. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the 2022 Pretoria Agreement, which ended the two-year conflict between the center and the autonomous region.
In May 2025, the TPLF made a public demarche and restored the previously dissolved regional administration, appointing the movement's chairman, Debretsion Gebremichael, as the local president. This created a public counterweight to the Interim Regional Authority, governed from Addis Ababa.
In the particularly volatile regions of Ahmar and Tigray, limited clashes and skirmishes have become more frequent, and in August, a group of TPLF militants attempted to break through into Sudanese territory, but were stopped by armed forces.
Despite this, the Ethiopian government insisted that the situation remained under control.
Nevertheless, in reality, the conflict was approaching another acute phase. One of the most obvious signs was the unification of seven major rebel groups into a military-political coalition on September 21.
It was called the "Ethiopian People's Alliance for Survival" and included the "Tigray People's Liberation Front" (TPLF) and the "Amhara Fano National Movement", which had previously fought among themselves.
In addition to them, the alliance included groups from Oromia, Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz and the Somali region, which made it possible to create a basis for an offensive along a broad front line against government forces.
The Alliance members declared the strategic goal of cooperation to be the removal of the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, whom they accuse of attempting to “erase the identity of the peoples of Ethiopia,” and the creation of a transitional administration.
Addis Ababa viewed these statements as a deliberate escalation—previous similar alliances had been formed by opponents shortly before the start of major campaigns—and began gradually concentrating additional forces near the rebel areas.
The Alliance managed to act preemptively. On September 23, armed opposition units, under the pretext of a "defensive war," launched a large-scale offensive in Tigray and quickly took control of Mekelle Airport, the region's key air hub.
Later, the rebels also captured the Shire and Axum airports and several major road junctions, completely cutting off Tigray's communications with the rest of the country. The rebels launched an offensive against government positions in the neighboring Afar and Amhara regions, successfully driving federal forces out of some settlements.
SHORT-LIVED DOMINANCE
The military alliance in Tigray gave the TPLF a temporary opportunity to seize the initiative, creating pressure on several front lines and forcing the Ethiopian federal forces to spread their forces over long distances.
For the first few days, Alliance flying squads wedged themselves into the gaps between government forces and quite effectively attacked their flanks, as well as cutting off important communications.
During one of the raids, the rebels even managed to destroy the field headquarters of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and capture two senior commanders from the 61st Division of the 803rd Corps.
However, the Alliance began to be gradually torn apart by internal contradictions, which the Tigray opposition agreed to temporarily forget until the overthrow of Ahmed's government.
In particular, the "Gumuz People's Democratic Movement," which was allegedly intended to attack federal positions from the north and west, declared no grievances against Addis Ababa that would necessitate the creation of an armed wing. Elders, however, called reports of joining the "Alliance" "incitement to a major war" and promised to find those who spread this "rumor."
The situation is even more interesting for the Ogaden National Liberation Front, which has effectively split in two: some of its factions have declared their allegiance to Addis Ababa and have sent supporters to help the TPLF, while others have declared their loyalty to Addis Ababa and will remain neutral in this war.
The remaining groups, one after another, began to appeal to the TPLF with appeals and complaints, demanding that numerous territorial, ideological, and financial disputes between the factions be resolved “on the shore.”
This significantly slowed the advance on the capital and gave federal forces the opportunity to regroup. By September 27, government troops had already launched an offensive, driving the rebels out of several major cities and forcing them to retreat in the Sama, Sekota, and Alamata regions. Over the next few days, the Alliance lost almost a third of the territory gained in the initial stages of the campaign. And in early October, federal forces recaptured Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region, forcing the rebels to retreat northwest.
However, the TPLF leaders have no intention of engaging in global cooperation. Moreover, they are seeking sophisticated ways to remind the central authorities that their reach is long. On October 1, Tigray opposition supporters launched several suicide drones toward the capital, attempting to strike local military and industrial facilities.
SEARCH FOR SPONSORS
Ethiopia's central authorities are convinced that Tigray erupted with the help of outside interests. Addis Ababa has placed the primary blame on Eritrea, with which relations have teetered on the brink of open conflict for many years.
Already on the second day after the fighting began, Ethiopian Army Chief of Staff Birhanu Jula stated that Eritrea was financing and supporting the armed alliance that had formed in Tigray and was inciting it against Addis Ababa in order to curb Ethiopia's development.
Afar Governor Awol Arba went even further. He accused the Eritrean armed forces of invading the region and claimed they were trying to cut the road connecting Djibouti and Ethiopia.
Although there is no official confirmation yet of the participation of Eritrean special forces in fighting on the rebel side, harsh measures were taken against their neighbor in advance. In early October, Ethiopia closed its embassy in Asmara and expelled ten Eritrean diplomats. Eritrea responded by announcing the severance of diplomatic relations.
However, Eritrea is not the only country on Ethiopia's list of potential enemies. Sudan has also received its share of accusations. Specifically, the Prime Minister's Office claims that Sudan provided a space for contacts and coordination between Addis Ababa's opponents, and that several meetings of the leaders of the new "Alliance" took place in Port Sudan several weeks before the fighting began.
Here, Ethiopia makes the reservation that Sudan could hardly be the main sponsor of the opposition in Tigray, including because it is forced to spend a significant portion of its resources on containing its own civil war.
Finally, Ethiopia considers Egypt an indirect stakeholder. For Cairo, the potential destabilization of Addis Ababa represents a chance to disrupt the commissioning of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, a megaproject that threatens to alter the course of the Nile and, consequently, deplete the Arab Republic's agricultural land.
However, Addis Ababa believes that, despite the “machinations of its neighbors,” it is still capable of winning the war in Tigray in a short time.

[Financial Times] Porsche will raise the average price of its most expensive models by about 20 per cent by 2030, as the German sports-car maker aims to echo Ferrari’s strategy of using exclusivity to boost profits.
Chief executive Michael Leiters outlined a years-long plan at an investor day on Wednesday to revive Porsche’s fortunes by selling fewer but more upmarket cars following a costly unwinding of its electric vehicle ambitions last year.
"We want to further elevate our positioning, protect the exclusivity of Porsche and gain pricing power," said Leiters, the former McLaren boss who took over in January. "This brand has a lot of power."

I guess one would have to go the kit car route!
One can buy 4 cylinders boxer engines part and out it together, or even buy a complete engine.
I would resentment fuel injector versions if possible.
6 cylinders versions also possible, although a bit harder to find.
one could always go the Chevy 6 cylinders engines like the ones used in the Chevrolet Corvair as there seems to be quite a few for sale in the aftermarket section.
Also lots of Subaru water cooled 4 and 6 cylinders engines available if one want to go that route!

[Regnum] The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Belgian-born American scientist Francis Halsen. The Nobel Committee press service announced this on October 6.
Halsen will receive the award for his contributions to the IceCube observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.
The scientist is one of the co-authors of the IceCube project. The observatory, located at the South Pole, is designed to detect neutrinos—elementary particles that barely interact with matter and therefore can travel vast distances virtually unchanged, making them a valuable source of information about processes in space.
The observatory's system uses a cubic kilometer of South Pole ice as a giant detector, allowing it to detect neutrinos coming from space. High-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin were discovered by the observatory in 2013.
On October 5, the Nobel Committee announced that the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine had been awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann, and Georg Nagel for their discoveries in optogenetics. Hegemann and Nagel discovered the light-sensitive protein channelrhodopsin in single-celled algae, and Deisseroth adapted it to control neurons. Their discoveries formed the basis of a new method: scientists have learned to control nerve cell activity using light, thereby studying brain function.

2009 Nobel Peace Prize The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to United States president Barack Obama (b. 1961) for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the award on October 9, 2009, citing Obama's promotion of nuclear nonproliferation and a "new climate" in international relations fostered by Obama, especially in reaching out to the Muslim world.

The peace prize devolved into political posturing, but the science prizes are still solid.
FWIW, Halzen is a nice guy, very sharp, and, in my interactions with him, humbly curious. IceCube is his brainchild. I didn't think it would work; I was wrong.
Also, low energy neutrinos (e.g. solar, nuclear plant, etc) hardly interact at all, but those a million times more energetic interact a lot more strongly, which makes up for their rarity. An advantage to them over ordinary cosmic rays is that galactic/intergalactic magnetic fields don't change the direction of neutral particles like neutrinos, so if you can see their track you know where they came from.
