Jewish man stabbed in Manhattan's Diamond District, Shomrim seeks public help identifying suspect
[Jpost] Manhattan Shomrim and the New York Police Department Hate Crimes Task Force are investigating the stabbing as a possible antisemitic attack.

A Chabad Hassid was stabbed by a woman in Manhattan's Diamond District on Wednesday evening, the Jewish safety organization Manhattan Shomrim shared on social media.

Manhattan Shomrim and the New York Police Department Hate Crimes Task Force are investigating the stabbing as a possible antisemitic attack, the organization said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where his condition was described as stable.

MANHATTAN SHOMRIM ORG. ASKS PUBLIC FOR HELP LOCATING STABBER
The Manhattan Shomrim organization also asked the public for help locating the woman, who appeared to be in her 30s.

"If you were in the Diamond District/Midtown area around that time and witnessed the incident, or if you have access to storefront security cameras, dashcam video, or cell phone footage, please reach out immediately," Manhattan Shomrim stated.

According to eyewitness reports, the woman had passed by several other pedestrians without attacking them before stabbing the hassid, who was dressed in a visibly Jewish manner, with what some reports say was a syringe or needle.

Somali piracy resurgence hits fishermen and traders in coastal town
[ShabelleMedia] A resurgence of piracy off Somalia’s coast is disrupting the livelihoods of fishermen and traders in the coastal town of Bander Beyla, where residents face declining incomes, security restrictions and fears of being accused of supporting hijackers.

Bander Beyla, in the northeastern Bari region, is a fishing community where many residents depend on the sea for their livelihoods. The town has come under increased scrutiny as ship hijackings have returned to Somali waters.

While security measures have been introduced to curb piracy, their impact has also been felt by civilians whose livelihoods depend on fishing and maritime trade.

Abdifatah Mohammed, who has spent 20 years fishing off the Somali coast, said declining fish stocks and the presence of large foreign fishing vessels had made life increasingly difficult for local fishermen.

Mohammed, who began fishing at the age of 15, said his opportunities to catch fish and lobsters had diminished, undermining his ability to support his family.

Local fishermen could not compete with large foreign vessels, he said, adding that some residents had turned to armed attacks at sea.

But Mohammed said piracy was also damaging the communities from which the perpetrators came, worsening conditions for people already struggling to make a living from the sea.

The situation deteriorated in late August when local authorities barred fishermen from going out to sea for two months over concerns that pirates could disguise themselves as ordinary fishermen to evade security forces.

The restriction placed a heavy burden on families, Mohammed said, because fishing was their main source of income.

He added that fishermen risked being suspected of piracy or accused of supplying provisions to hijacked vessels if they ventured out to sea.

Abdirisaq Said, who has fished in Bander Beyla for 15 years, said anti-piracy operations had led to the arrest of dozens of people suspected of supplying food or khat to groups involved in ship hijackings.

Local traders and shopkeepers had also been instructed not to sell goods to people suspected of links to pirates, he said.

The restrictions have further limited economic opportunities in the town, affecting both fishermen and businesses that depend on the coastal economy.

The renewed piracy threat has once again raised concerns over maritime security off Somalia, while coastal communities face the challenge of protecting their livelihoods amid tighter security measures and mounting economic pressure.

Egypt Backs Saudi Arabia’s Defense but Draws the Line at Yemen Attacks
[GaroweOnline] Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said Wednesday that any military support Egypt provides to Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat rational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...
would be limited to defending the kingdom’s territory and borders and would not include attacks on Yemen

Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels intensify attacks on Saudi Arabia.

The statement comes amid escalating tensions across the Middle East, raising concerns about regional security and potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

al-Sissi said Egypt could also help defend the territory of other Arab countries if requested, but any military involvement would be restricted to protecting their territory and security rather than launching offensive operations against neighboring states.

His remarks came as Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and intelligence chief Hassan Rashad met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and developments across the region.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said the message reaffirmed Cairo’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its commitment to supporting the kingdom’s security and stability.

Egypt’s parliament on Monday postponed until Oct. 26 a vote on authorizing the armed forces to support Saudi Arabia if requested, politicians said.

The prospect of direct Egyptian military support for the kingdom could mark a significant escalation in the wider regional conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The conflict has threatened energy supplies and driven oil prices higher since U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran

began in February.

The fighting in Yemen has also intensified in recent weeks, opening another potential front in the broader confrontation. The Saudi-led coalition supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis, who control the capital, Sanaa, and much of the country’s north.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt are close strategic and economic partners, with extensive military, diplomatic and commercial ties.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, provided Egypt with billions of dollars in financial assistance, central bank deposits and investments after the Egyptian military ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013. al-Sissi, who led the military at the time, became president the following year.

Egypt previously joined the Saudi-led coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support the internationally recognized government against the Houthis. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
Egyptian forces played a limited combat role in the conflict.

The latest statements suggest Cairo is seeking to reassure Riyadh of its support while drawing a distinction between defending Saudi territory and participating in offensive military operations inside Yemen.

Egypt’s position comes as regional governments face growing pressure to respond to attacks and shifting military alliances while avoiding further escalation in a conflict that has already raised concerns over energy security and stability across the Middle East.

Hezbollah sends Latin American recruits to Lebanon for training before targeting Jewish communities
[Jpost] Operation Trapiche, a counterterrorism operation launched by Brazil’s Federal Police in November 2023 with support from Israel’s Mossad, has shed light on Hezbollah’s efforts to outsource operatives.

Hezbollah is increasingly recruiting convicted felons in Latin America, targeting individuals with financial difficulties who harbor resentment toward the courts — while relaxing its requirements for ideological alignment — according to a new Washington Institute for Near East Policy assessment. The report was written by Lucas Gualtieri, a Brazilian federal prosecutor who specializes in organized crime and Hezbollah’s use of criminal networks.

Operation Trapiche, a counterterrorism operation launched by Brazil’s Federal Police in November 2023 with support from Israel’s Mosssd
...sees all, knows all, gets 'em all in the end...
, has shed light on Hezbollah’s efforts to outsource operatives, as well as on criminal revenue generation and financial services in Latin America, building capabilities the terrorist group can plausibly deny if confronted.

Hezbollah has long outsourced operations in Latin America, as illustrated by the 2021 expulsion of two criminals hired by the Iran-backed group to target an Israeli in Bogotá.

The investigation has uncovered what amounts to an assembly line for operatives. Rather than simply contracting hitmen, Hezbollah recruits men with no prior ties to the group, flies them to Leb
...The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. Only one of those statements is an exaggeration....
for training, and sends them back to their home countries to scout for potential Israeli and Jewish targets.

Gualtieri said Hezbollah was specifically seeking to recruit financially vulnerable convicted felons with no prior ties to the group or Lebanon. In intercepted audio, recruiters discussed looking for aggrieved individuals who had been "locked up" and felt they "owe the courts," he said.

By recruiting men without prior ideological or personal ties to Hezbollah or Lebanon, Gualtieri said, the group could deny involvement in attacks, allowing any resulting unrest to be dismissed as hate crimes committed by fringe krazed killers.

Lucas Passos Lima, whose conviction was reinstated by Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice last month after a federal court ruled that his role in a network targeting Jews and Israelis was motivated by financial gain rather than terrorism, had returned from Lebanon with more than $5,000 in untraceable cash.

Had the court failed to convict Lima of terrorism, Gualtieri said, Brazil could have been viewed as a permissive environment for the group, and individuals who support terrorism for personal gain could have escaped more severe sentencing, despite their knowing involvement in plots.

HEZBOLLAH RELYING ON LATIN AMERICAN CRIMINAL NETWORK REVENUE
Hezbollah has also increasingly relied on revenue generated by criminal networks in Latin America, he added, as in, for example, the discovery of Brazilian tobacco shops that helped fund plane tickets for recruits. The shops were initially identified by tax inspectors investigating a tobacco shop in Belo Horizonte’s Mercado Central that was selling banned electronic cigarettes.

The case was referred to counterterrorism police in October 2023 after an FBI warning about a criminal financial network funding Hezbollah raised alarm among Brazilian officials.

Although the shops were registered to an individual identified as Hussain Abdulmajid, Sherlocks found that the real operator was his brother, Mohamad Khir Abdulmajid, a Syrian-born naturalized Brazilian. The FBI memo also flagged Haissam Houssin Diab, a Lebanese-born naturalized Brazilian whose passport and travel bookings were later found in Abdulmajid’s cloud storage.

Abdulmajid is believed to have approached at least five Brazilians through social media and paid for their short trips to Beirut, including stays in upscale hotels. There, they allegedly received operational instruction and training in clandestine communications. This included learning a physical recognition signal and how to use shared email accounts as dead drops, leaving messages unsent in draft folders. They were also instructed to photograph Lebanese tourist sites to support a cover story that they had traveled for leisure.

Lima was among those recruited through Abdulmajid’s network; he was flown to Lebanon twice in 2023.

After his first trip, researchers found that he had geolocated and filmed three synagogues, a Jewish cemetery, the Israeli embassy, and a rabbi in and around Brasília. He had also trained with firearms, purchased untraceable radios and surveillance equipment, and approached a pilot about exfiltration routes that would bypass migration controls.

HEZBOLLAH, IRGC USING CRYPTOCURRENCY FOR MONEY LAUNDERING
Although Hezbollah’s use of criminal enterprises for fundraising is not new, the significance of these cases is that the group did not need to launder its own money to evade sanctions, Gualtieri said.

Dante Felipini, a São Paulo cryptocurrency broker arrested in a separate money-laundering case as part of Operation Colossus, was able to establish three separate cryptocurrency wallets for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah. Prosecutors charged him with money laundering, currency evasion, membership in a terrorist organization, and terrorism financing.

Gualtieri said that Felipini’s case showed that Hezbollah views outsourcing as both a tactic and an opportunity for recruitment. After the cryptobroker traveled to Baalbek in January 2023, where he fired rifles in the hills with Hezbollah terrorists, Felipini told a contact that the trip had been his "baptism" into the group.

Gualtieri argued that the cases highlighted the need for authorities to pursue terrorism-related charges alongside other criminal offenses where the evidence supports them. He noted that such charges can lead to longer sentences and that relying solely on formal terrorism charges can understate the extent of Hezbollah’s activities.

He also highlighted a precedent set by Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice, which affirmed that financial motivation does not preclude terrorism liability when suspects knowingly participate in a terrorist plot, even if they do not share the group’s ideological motives.

Finally, he said authorities should strengthen financial monitoring to identify suspicious cryptocurrency transfers and shell companies, continue tracking networks after assets are frozen, and expand national mechanisms for designating terrorist organizations.

While international cooperation was crucial to Operation Trapiche, Gualtieri argued that domestic enforcement tools remained essential to disrupting Hezbollah’s networks and prosecuting those involved. In Spanish, trapiche means "shady business."

CAM study reveals extensive bot network amplifying anti-Israel, antisemitic content
[Jpost] The research forms part of CAM’s Bots Accountability Project, an initiative that documents and reports bots, fake profiles, and inauthentic accounts while tracking platform responses.

Nearly one-in-four unique accounts that follow or amplify posts by the prominent anti-Israel profile @Wallface exhibit strong bot-like signals, according to a study released by the Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) of the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) on Wednesday.

The study, titled "Bots, Fake Profiles, and Inauthentic Accounts Amplifying @Wallface on X," was conducted between October 19 and October 20, and examined 10,709 unique X/Twitter accounts interacting with the profile.

The account @Wallface has roughly 51,000 followers on X; the account bio says: "Research and data analysis" and shares content critical of Israel.

The research forms part of CAM’s Bots Accountability Project, an initiative that documents and reports bots, fake profiles, and inauthentic accounts while tracking platform responses.

To evaluate the accounts, ARC used CAM’s detection model, known as X model v1.4.0, which assigns every account a score from 0 to 100 based on signal weights grounded in research from the Digital Forensic Research Lab, Indiana University’s Observatory on Social Media, and Cresci studies.

TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT OF ACCOUNTS SHOW SIGNS OF BEING BOTS
The methodology evaluates signals including account age, posting rates and activity bursts, follower ratios, handle patterns, default avatars, and profile completeness, while ensuring that post content and ideology are not used as inputs.

The report applies a conservative cutoff score of 75 or higher, meaning that each step up removes accounts that still look automated, ensuring the figures understate rather than overstate the presence of inauthentic profiles.

Out of the 10,709 unique accounts analyzed in the sample, CAM’s model identified 2,597 accounts, or 24.3%, as showing strong signals of being bots, fake profiles, or inauthentic accounts.

The breakdown across specific user groups showed that 27.2% of the newest followers sampled, 23.7% of reposters, 13.9% of commenters, and 8% of quoters met the threshold for bot-like activity.

The study found that the proportion of flagged accounts among amplifiers grew as the profile’s posting frequency accelerated over the months. Among accounts amplifying posts published in July, 15.9% showed automated signals, climbing to 19.1% in August, reaching 23.2% in September, and settling at 22.2% in October, during which time the account’s daily output jumped significantly.

The analysis highlighted that certain individual posts attracted exceptionally high concentrations of automated engagement.

HEAVY VOLUME OF AUTOMATED ACCOUNTS
An October 16 post asserting that Israel maintains a paper trail for its social media operations was amplified by 86 accounts, of which 31.4% were flagged as inauthentic. Similarly, an October 19 post in which @Wallface complained about being targeted by a coordinated bot-reporting campaign faced a heavy volume of automated accounts, with nearly a third of its 68 amplifying profiles showing clear signs of inauthenticity.

Further investigation into the flagged profiles revealed significant overlap with previous research. Out of the thousands of automated profiles detected, 428 had previously surfaced in past CAM investigations, with the vast majority receiving similar inauthentic ratings.

The most prominent overlaps occurred with accounts previously identified around figures such as Roger Waters, where 237 shared profiles appeared, and Jake Shields, with 162 overlapping accounts, alongside smaller overlaps linked to networks surrounding Ana Kasparian, Abdul El-Sayed, Rabbi Jeffx, and Mario Nawfal.

Among the specific examples highlighted in the data, a profile named @Rajdhani108306 achieved a near-maximum bot score of 99.9 out of 100 after generating roughly 171,000 posts since its creation in June, translating to an average output of more than 1,200 posts every single day.

CAM noted that the results "raise concerns about how bot-like amplification can distort perceptions of online influence and public support. The recurrence of flagged accounts across multiple audiences suggests the problem extends beyond any single X account."

Italy Makes Parents Pay For Milan Rioters: Meloni Decree Fines Families, Adds Riot Crime Carrying Up To 5 Years
[ZERO] Italy's cabinet approved an emergency decree-law on Oct. 20 in response to the weekend riots in Milan, ANSA reported. The eight-article text creates a new offense of violent participation in demonstrations, extends preventive detention to minors aged 16 and over, and sends 500 more soldiers to Milan through Dec. 31 at a cost of €4.7 million.

Parents of minors who commit violence at demonstrations face fines of €500 to €1,000, and the fine doubles for a repeat. It applies even when the minor is too young to be prosecuted. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that if a minor is responsible for the damage, the parents should pay, and she asked all political forces to side with legality.

The new crime covers anyone who uses sticks or clubs or throws objects at a protest in a way that endangers people. It carries two to five years in prison and a fine of up to €20,000, with a higher penalty for a covered face or damage to public infrastructure or utilities. Anyone who organizes or promotes groups for violent demonstrations, including through online tools, faces four to 12 years.

Kurdish migrants in Dunkirk ‘jungle’ in limbo between police, smugglers, and attempted crossings
[Rudaw] Kurdish migrants colonists living in makeshift encampments in wooded areas along the northern French coast are risking everything in hopes of reaching the United Kingdom amid a crackdown from both European countries and Kurdish authorities on smugglers.

"Even if it turns into a storm, we will still go [cross the sea]," a Kurdish migrant told Rudaw’s Hevidar Ahmed on October 5, after French border police foiled an attempt by "more than" 600 migrants colonists attempting to cross the English Channel from the northern French coastal town of Oye Plage.

The passage across the channel is 52 nautical miles to the UK port of Dover.

The anonymous migrant is among thousands who have returned to informal, makeshift migrant and refugee camps located in wooded and boggy areas near the French coastal city of Dunkirk, 10 kilometers from the Belgian border, known as Dunkirk ’jungle.’

These stories were featured on Rudaw’s Unfinished Stories that aired on Monday, following the journeys of migrants colonists from the Kurdistan Region as they navigate life in Dunkirk jungle before embarking on dinghies, inflatable boats, or kayaks to brave the dangerous corridor.

Aland, 15, who is originally from the Sulaimani province’s Qaladiza district, tried to cross nine times throughout his two-month-long stay in the jungle.

"The police don't let us," he said.

The area is divided across several territories controlled by smugglers, who have installed wire fences around the areas they control. Not a single smuggler Rudaw approached agreed to an interview, even anonymously.

Rudaw’s team stayed on Oye-Plage’s shores for three nights. On the final night of October 4, a group of migrants colonists were seen approaching the French police to distract them, enabling another group of around 100 individuals to sneak behind to reach the sea with an inflated dinghy.

Consequently, 84 migrants colonists attempted the passage, leaving more than a dozen people from their group behind.

The UK Home Office’s Border Force data showed 1,739 migrants colonists boarding 23 "small boats" which departed the French coast from October 2 to October 7, 2026 — with 418 on October 4 alone in just five boats.

’WE CANNOT TRUST EASILY’
Aside from the risk of hypothermia, the transmission of fatal infectious diseases poses a serious risk to inhabitants of the encampments. In early September, a 20-year-old from the Kurdistan Region died due to a virus despite being hospitalized.

As a result, French health organizations have deployed health workers’ teams to vaccinate the migrants colonists.

Raphaelle, a health worker, said there are between 2,500 and 3,000 migrants colonists living in tents and temporary accommodation in the encampments.

She noted that most of them were not willing to take vaccination doses.

"We are afraid they will make us insane; we cannot trust [it] easily," said Govend, a Kurdish migrant who befriended Raphaelle, while at the same time acknowledging the risks inherent with transmission of the virus.

’NO OXYGEN LEFT’
Those that do make it out of the jungles run the risk of drowning and hypothermia in their attempts to cross the English Channel. In addition to capsizing, the overcrowdedness of the dinghies threaten to suffocate and kill those abroad.

Safa, another Kurdish migrant, recounted his crossing attempt to Rudaw. Around 100 people were with him on the dinghy, four of whom died.

"There were so many people, there was no oxygen left, there were so many people they all fell on top of each other," he noted, adding that one of the passengers who died was a child.

According to Association of Returned Refugees (ARR), approximately 6,500 people migrated from the Kurdistan Region, and 11 people died along the way in 2025.

Overall 41,000 migrants colonists crossed the English Channel in small boats in the same year with Iraqi nationals making up 4 percent of this number according to the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford.

There has been a concerted effort to crackdown on human trafficking this year. In July, the EU proposed a framework for new sanctions, targeting this issue.

"We have a common goal. To drive them out of business. And to save the lives of thousands of people who dream of a better life," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement following the proposal.

Previous crackdowns by French authorities dismantling of a sprawling migrant encampment on the edge of Calais in 2016, left 2,000 migrants colonists - including hundreds of unaccompanied children - seeking shelter in wooded areas, in and around disused warehouses, and under bridges in and around Calais with several hundred more in a forest in Grande-Synthe, a city adjacent to Dunkirk.

Human Rights Watch documented in October 2021 that repeated mass evictions from encampments and routine police eviction operations "do not appear to have reduced irregular Channel crossings" despite restrictions on distributions of food, water, and other essentials by humanitarian groups.

Alongside the EU’s effort, the Kurdistan Region has similarly been taking a tougher stance on this issue.

Six smugglers behind the 2021 incident involving an overturned dinghy in the French norther coast which led to the death of 32 migrants colonists, 21 of whom were Kurds, were tried by a French court in late September, while the lead organizer’s case was heard in Erbil more than a week ago.

Despite smugglers having been detained in the Kurdistan Region, La Belle France, UK and Belgium in recent years, the trade continues.

Although originally from Kurdistan Region, Safa requested to be identified as an Iranian Kurd, claiming asylum cases from Iran

He said he had paid between $1,000 to $1500 to "buy" an asylum case. "The case is Iranian, and all the people you see here have bought Iranian cases."

’PEOPLE LOSE THEMSELVES’
While some migrants colonists have shown eagerness to reach the British coast, some - including new arrivals - were hesitant to proceed.

Two Kurdish migrants colonists, having just disembarked the train from Gay Paree to Dunkirk, said they are willing to go back if they were given $20,000, the equivalent of what they had spent on their journey.

Another migrant,16, said, "Let go of the losses, I would go back right now."

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had escaped from his bonds and overwhelmed his guard using the bludgeon the faithful Filomena had smuggled to him in the loaf of bread...
another migrant, known as Mokhtar, has been living in Dunkirk jungle since 2022, having found work as a SIM card vendor. He claims that Kurdish migration has notably declined in recent years as increasing numbers of would-be migrants colonists believe that "there is no hope" to be had in Europe.

"It takes five years before you can go back [to visit]. You go back and your mother and father are gone, whoever you lived with before is no longer alive, and a huge part of people lose themselves here - they get addicted to drugs, they lose."

He also claimed that "80 percent" of families coming to the camp and then crossing the sea would end up divorced.

"I am speaking the truth. They separate right inside the dinghy," he said.

France bans protests in major cities as authorities brace for new unrest
[IsraelTimes] Macron says restrictions are needed to protect city centers and public buildings after a weekend of the country’s worst violence in years

Protests planned in several French cities for Thursday were banned, with more bans expected in the coming days after a weekend of festivities and widespread looting marked La Belle France’s most violent mostly peaceful unrest in years.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the measures aim to protect city centers, businesses and public buildings.

The ban on demonstrations planned Thursday in Gay Paree, Lyon, Lille and Grenoble was seen by some as an infringement on French people’s right to protest.

But high school and university student groups said they will continue to mobilize, even though the autumn school break started this week.

Macron said the strategy adopted for the coming days is to ban protests requested by "individuals or groups with no legitimate authority." His remarks came after a special security meeting at the Elysée Palace.

"Where trade unions submit requests to hold demonstrations, prefects will examine them in accordance with the law, but alternative routes will be proposed" to protect city centers, businesses and public buildings, Macron said.

"The rules are simple, and I think they’re just common sense. The general recommendation is that there should be no demonstrations in the coming days," he said. "For those who still want to protest, if they are trade unions, prefects will propose alternative routes."

Macron blamed the weekend’s violence on "actions led by radical far-left groups who aimed to bring the Republic down," in addition to criminals who came to loot.

The turmoil in Gay Paree and other French cities has prompted a strong security response from the government. Night curfews have been implemented in some areas of the French capital, as well as in other cities where calm has been restored.

The Gay Paree police prefecture said Thursday’s ban was necessary given the risk of street violence that erupted over the weekend, when groups of masked youth clashed with police forces, looted shops and torched cars.

The ban in Gay Paree will last until 8 p.m. local time and apply to areas including the Elysée presidential palace, both houses of parliament, and the city’s main train stations. Areas in downtown Gay Paree which were severely hit by the looting are also covered.

AUTHORITIES ARE BRACING FOR ANOTHER BIG PROTEST DAY
Thursday’s planned protests were seen as a prelude to Saturday’s big demonstration, when activists from the " yellow vest " movement, whose demonstrations over fuel prices shook La Belle France in 2018 and 2019, and the CGT labor union, are expected to join.

Some of those protests, including marches in Lyon, will also be banned, local authorities said.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, who met union representatives on Wednesday, said a "massive" security operation was planned for Saturday to prevent a repeat of the violence by groups of rioters that had exposed shortcomings in security measures.

Union representatives said their meeting with Lecornu did not result in concrete proposals. They are now focusing on another big day of action scheduled on November 5, and called on private and public sector employees to join.

The Grand Turk
Test of Strength: Two of Erdogan's Problems Play into Israel's Hands
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited
by Kamran Gasanov

[Regnum] The confrontation between Turkey and Israel, which has been ongoing since the 2023 Gaza War, has entered a new phase over the past month.
Oh no, Mr. Gasanov — Turkey has been confronting Israel for much, much longer than that.
There is no sign of a new escalation similar to the IDF strike on Abu Duhur, Syria, where Turkish troops were expected to arrive in August. However, the balance of power is shifting.

And now it could shift to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's disadvantage. Turkey is simultaneously facing problems in two areas that are crucial to containing Israel.
“Containing” Israel?? What Muslim country is capable of containing Israel?
AZERBAIJANI BALANCE
Azerbaijan is one of the rare Eurasian states that manages to balance between Turkey and Israel. Baku and Ankara are allies under the Shusha Declaration and enjoy close ties across a wide range of areas. These include oil pipelines, gas pipelines, railways, cooperation through the Organization of Turkic States, trade, investment…

The harsher rhetoric between the Turks and Israelis following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the risks of direct war following the change of regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria have not forced Ilham Aliyev to abandon his equidistant position.

Azerbaijan did not curtail its military-technical cooperation with Israel, which was particularly valuable during the Second Karabakh War, nor did it curtail oil supplies to Israel, particularly through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

Moreover, Baku provided a platform for Turkish and Israeli security forces when the two armies were about to clash in Syria. Three rounds of negotiations were held in the Azerbaijani capital last spring and summer.

But maintaining this balance is becoming difficult. And it's not Baku's fault. Turkish activists previously staged spontaneous protests outside the Azerbaijani embassy in Ankara demanding an end to gasoline supplies to Israel. But now, opinion leaders have joined the criticism.

The war in Gaza was already bad enough, but Aliyev remained steadfast. Earlier this year, he reminded those who demanded an immediate boycott of Israel and those who wanted to involve Azerbaijani troops in peacekeeping operations in Gaza, thereby exposing them to IDF attack, that Palestine had not particularly supported Baku in its standoff with Yerevan.

And at the beginning of October, Ilham Aliyev, quite tired of statements that Karabakh had allegedly been returned to Azerbaijan by Turkey, said: “We don’t need anyone’s help, nor anyone’s patronage.”

Criticism erupted from the highest levels of Turkish government. Seizing on the news, Turkish politicians and journalists, with or without reason, recalled Azerbaijan's ties to the "Zionist regime," to which it sells oil (without specifying that it goes through Turkey), and demanded gratitude "for Karabakh."

Baku tried to respond firmly and prevent external interference. The ruling New Azerbaijan Party stated that the "One People, Two States" formula does not give one state the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another or impose political or ideological approaches.

While Baku continues to make reservations about its "brotherly ties" with Turkey, they didn't stand on ceremony with Celal Çiftçi, a columnist for the Turkish newspaper Şanlıurfa Olay, who insulted the head of state. The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office placed Çiftçi on an international wanted list. Although he eventually apologized to Aliyev and his country and deleted the post, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

The situation was intervened by 78-year-old Devlet Bahçeli, who has become a true "godfather" of modern Turkish politics, distinguished himself by initiating a dialogue between the authorities and the Kurds and reconciling Turkey's mafia clans.

On October 14, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (a secular party) and Erdoğan's coalition ally emphasized the need to respect the sovereignty, independence, and domestic legislation of each Turkic state. Bahçeli also called for preventing actions that could harm Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood.

INVISIBLE PACT
While Turkish media was playing a mild "cold war" on Azerbaijan, Ankara had problems in the south. And more serious ones. Just recently, it, along with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, signed the Mecca Agreement. The pact calls for a collective response to an attack on one of the signatories.

In early October, amid increasing Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure, Ankara and Islamabad reached an agreement with Riyadh to deploy forces to ensure the kingdom's security.

Saudi Arabia's Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif attend the signing ceremony in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

On October 6, the Houthis reported strikes on Riyadh Airport, an oil refinery, and other facilities. Operations at the capital's airport were temporarily suspended, and Saudi authorities reported three wounded in attacks on two other airports. Further strikes followed on King Khalid International Airport.

For the new alliance, the challenge isn't just the number of missiles intercepted. Its political value depends on whether Saudi Arabia feels more secure after its partners join. If attacks continue and civilian infrastructure remains vulnerable, a gap will emerge between stated collective commitments and visible results.

POSSIBLE WINNER
Taking these two examples together, it becomes clear that Turkey's influence over its closest partners is currently being tested. Of course, a few statements from MPs and journalists won't destroy the alliance between Baku and Ankara overnight, but at this rate, Azerbaijan will seek to diversify its foreign policy, not relying solely on Turkey for support. And this, willy-nilly, will inevitably erode the alliance's cohesion.

And this is already being felt. As if in response to complaints about cooperation with Israel, Azerbaijani media accused Turkey of failing to synchronize the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations with Azerbaijan in accordance with the old agreements.

Regarding the situation in the Persian Gulf, the more actively the Houthis attack Saudi Arabia, the more they provoke Turkish intervention. Erdogan, of course, is currently maintaining that the Mecca Pact does not oblige Ankara to declare war on the Houthis, but predicting the course of events in the region is extremely difficult.

Turkey's potential involvement in Saudi Arabia's defense will cool its relations with Iran. Iran, incidentally, is far from benefiting from the escalating conflict between the Houthis and the Arabs, and is instead becoming even more isolated in the Arab world.

The undermining of Turkey's influence in Azerbaijan, the failure of the "Mecca Pact" to demonstrate its strength against the Houthis, and the escalation of Sunni-Shiite tensions in the Middle East play into Israel's hands.

He could offer Azerbaijan, if not an alternative to the Shusha Agreement, then a strengthening of bilateral ties in defense and beyond. The clash between Iran and the Houthis on one side, and the Saudis, Egyptians, and Turks on the other (i.e., a split in the Islamic world) could prompt Donald Trump to revive attempts to expand the Abrahamic Accords.

Israel, despite Turkey's reluctance, will again be perceived by the KSA and other countries in the region as a natural ally against Iran and its proxies.

But even a strengthened Israel is unlikely to be able to end Turkey's growing influence in the Middle East. But it could significantly reduce Ankara's room for maneuver.

earliest Turkey Israeli conflict

The earliest significant friction between Turkey and Israel occurred during the **1956 Suez Crisis**. Although Turkey had recognized Israel in 1949 and engaged in secret military cooperation (the "peripheral pact") by 1958, Ankara condemned Israel’s belligerence during the 1956 war. This diplomatic strain led Turkey to **downgrade its diplomatic mission** in Tel Aviv from a Legation to the level of Charge d’Affaires in November 1956.

Subsequent early tensions included Turkey’s refusal in 1973 to allow the United States to use its bases or airspace to resupply Israel during the Arab-Israeli War, though it did permit Soviet use of Turkish airspace to deliver arms to Egypt and Syria.

I expect the conflict existed well before country demarcations.

Netanyahu: Regime change in Iran is now an Israeli mission

Text:

🚨 NETANYAHU: REGIME CHANGE IN IRAN IS NOW AN ISRAELI MISSION

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has directed the IDF, Mossad and Israel’s security establishment to pursue the overthrow of the Iranian regime.

“There is only one way to remove this threat once and for all: overthrow the regime in Iran.”

Netanyahu said Iran has resumed its nuclear efforts and argued that eliminating the nuclear threat ultimately requires eliminating the regime behind it.

He also said President Trump supports the goal, while Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Tehran that any attack on Israel — before or after the elections — would bring the “heaviest price.”

This is no longer just about degrading Iran’s nuclear program.

Israel’s stated objective is now the regime itself.

#3  Huh? Where do you get such nonsense, Clyde Thaviling6482? The IDF did the first bombing runs against Iran that destroyed almost all their anti-aircraft defences, weapons factories, killed off many of the IRGC senior officers remaining after the pager bombs went off, a decade ago they emptied the nuclear bomb research archive that identified all the sites connected to that program, not to mention picking off the missile launchers as they revealed themselves by launching missiles.

Not to mention that the US Air Force is parked between runs at the IAF base, and they’ve been sharing their air-to-air refuelers with our guys. Israel was perfectly willing to go it alone against Iran if President Trump was not willing to join in.

Turkey Iran alliance

**Turkey and Iran are not formal allies**; their relationship is defined by a complex mix of **rivalry, competition, and pragmatic cooperation**. Historically marked by proxy conflicts in Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, the two nations maintain a delicate balance where they compete for regional influence while managing shared security concerns, such as Kurdish separatist movements and energy trade.

Recent geopolitical shifts have intensified this duality. While **Turkey positions itself as a mediator** in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel, it has also deepened strategic ties with **Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt** in a new regional alignment that some analysts view as a counterbalance to Iranian power. Despite these tensions, **economic interdependence** remains strong, with Iran serving as a major supplier of natural gas to Turkey, preventing a complete breakdown in bilateral relations.

* **Proxy Rivalry**: Both countries have backed opposing factions in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, though they have occasionally coordinated on specific issues like the Astana process for Syria.
* **Mediation Role**: Turkey has leveraged its neutrality to broker diplomatic efforts, acting as a go-between for Iran and Western powers, which enhances its regional stature without committing to an alliance with Tehran.
* **Regional Alliances**: The formation of a **Saudi-Turkish-Pakistani compact** signals a strategic shift, aimed at managing regional security and potentially containing Iranian influence, although Ankara insists the pact is not inherently antagonistic toward Iran.
* **Economic Ties**: Trade and energy cooperation, particularly Iran's role as a key supplier of oil and gas to Turkey, provide a stabilizing factor that complicates outright hostility.

True that Turkey has a formal alliance w Saudis now.

Problem for Turkey is that they don't actually want to do anything more than send some planes to sit on the tarmac at Saudi bases.

The mealy-mouth support they are giving the Saudis may come to haunt them.

As far as regime change goes, the Mossad has had that on its agenda for years. One of their big problems is killing regime big shots while letting their intel assets escape.

Israel warns the US: Hamas has no intention of disarming

Translated Text:

🚨 ISRAEL WARNS U.S.: HAMAS HAS NO INTENTION OF DISARMING — AND IS PREPARING FOR ANOTHER WAR

Israeli intelligence reportedly assesses that Hamas is not planning to surrender its weapons and is instead working to rebuild its military capabilities and prepare renewed attacks.

A senior Israeli security official said bluntly: “Hamas is supposed to hand over its weapons. I don’t see that happening. And there is no intention to do so.”

Israel has also conveyed serious concerns to Washington that withdrawing before genuine disarmament would allow Hamas to rapidly rebuild its terrorist infrastructure and once again threaten Israeli communities.

The question increasingly appears to be not whether Hamas says it will disarm — but what happens when it refuses.

The Treasury Department said in a statement that the law firm had been setting up shell companies in support of Iran’s "shadow fleet to transport Iranian petroleum and petrochemicals and to evade U.S. sanctions."

The statement accused the company of establishing fronts for both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iran-aligned Ansarullah movement, widely known as the Iran's Houthi sock puppets

. The department sanctioned five individuals linked to the firm, a ship management company in Panama, as well as shipping agents in Singapore and Dubai "that helped move Iranian cargo through ports around the world."

The firm has yet to respond to the Treasury Department's allegations. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency has reported on the sanctions, but Tehran has not issued an official response.

According to the Treasury Department, the firm has "created companies that served as fronts for networks selling millions of barrels of Iranian oil to benefit the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force and the Houthis."

The move marks Washington’s latest economic offensive against Tehran under the banner of Operation Economic Outcast, aimed at further squeezing Iran’s economy and severing its access to key shipping networks used to transport oil.

"We call on governments, flag registries, port authorities, and the private sector to watch for the warning signs of shadow fleet activity and to stop doing business with anyone who helps Iran evade sanctions," the statement added.

Alongside the statement, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on X, "Whether you are conducting illegal oil transfers at sea or sitting in the corner office of a law firm, if you are supporting the Iranian regime, we will find you and sanction you."

The US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has been the most visible part of this operation, having attempted to stop any Iranian vessels from transiting the strait since mid-July.

Both the US and Iran have imposed tit-for-tat restrictions on this vital waterway that was responsible for one-fifth of global oil transportation before the US-Israeli war with Iran that broke out in late February.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced Wednesday that Tehran "is prepared to give diplomacy another chance if we see strong evidence of a sincere desire by US to build trust and reach a just solution," warning that if the US "chooses war over diplomacy, it’ll certainly result in an even greater strategic failure."

Araghchi’s statement follows his reaffirmation of Tehran’s seven-day plan that would open the Strait of Hormuz if Washington agrees to lift economic sanctions.

Iran's floating oil reserves, used for China sales, completely depleted, analysts say - report
[Jpost] At their peak, these reserves consisted of almost 90 million barrels of oil, according to Kpler. By October 5, the reserves dropped to fewer than one million barrels, and have since been exhausted.

Iran's oil reserves, kept in tankers and sold to China over time, have been completely depleted, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing Kpler analysts.

At their peak, these reserves consisted of almost 90 million barrels of oil, according to Kpler. By October 5, the reserves dropped to fewer than one million barrels, and have since been exhausted.

"There’s no more oil to discharge to China anymore," Kpler's crude-oil analysis head Homayoun Falakshahi said.

Other analysts, the WSJ reported, said Chinese payments to Iran

may take up to two months to arrive, meaning the regime may still receive some funding from past sales.

The consequences for Iran's already-struggling economy may be dire, with Falakshahi saying that the oil sales generally account for approximately 30-40% of its government revenue.

"It looks like the US gamble is that the economy will either push the regime back into negotiations to accept a nuclear deal, or will spark protests internally which the regime will face challenges containing," he said.

Iman Nasseri, senior vice president of Middle East and Asia at energy-analytics company FGE NexantECA in Dubai and former worker in the research arm of Iran’s oil ministry, said that the US strategy was working, but not to discount the Iranian regime's resilience. "Let’s wait another year and see if the system can stand."

The United States’ naval blockade has cost Iran an estimated $25 billion in lost oil revenue, he said.

Additionally, CENTCOM and the US Treasury Department froze $350 million in Iranian cryptocurrency assets in recent weeks.

IRGC issues ‘serious warning’ to the US over Strait of Hormuz crossings
[Rudaw] Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday threatened to strike US military bases across the Middle East if Washington continues to encourage vessels to use shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz that Tehran considers unauthorized, the Guards said in a statement.

The warning comes as tensions rise across the region, with Washington preparing to evacuate some non-essential diplomatic personnel and their families from Gulf countries, while Israeli fighter jets reportedly conducted a large-scale military exercise near Iran's border earlier this week.

In a statement carried by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency, the IRGC’s naval command accused the US military of encouraging commercial vessels to use what Tehran described as an illegal, mined shipping route through the strategic waterway.

“The US military must know that if this trend continues, the conflict will extend to its bases in the region,” the IRGC Navy warned.

“This is a serious warning.”

The threat came as the IRGC claimed that seven vessels had been struck or damaged in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz area, including four ships allegedly hit while transferring oil and three others that reportedly struck naval mines on Wednesday night.

Rudaw English could not independently verify the claim.

Iran has repeatedly warned commercial vessels against using shipping lanes that it considers unauthorized, while the US military has sought to keep the strategic waterway open despite Iranian threats and attacks.

The latest warning comes amid growing speculation about another round of US and Israeli strikes against Iran, following the six-week war that began on February 28.
