#1 They know they killed him because their comms were not up to the job of calling back to base so they used a cell phone to call his boss. Remember the Ukrainian hackers got the cellular phone numbers and other info for every single Russian in the Russian military. Ukraine even published both phone numbers (caller and callee) who were involve in the death report and the time and duration of the call.
