JUI-F workers in Mardan protest Mashal Khan case verdict, welcome acquitted 'heroes'
2018-02-08

Fazl (JUI-F) workers gathered at the Mardan Motorway Interchange on Wednesday to protest an Anti-Terrorism Court's (ATC) verdict in the Mashal Khan murder case.

The crowd rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the slain Mashal Khan and vowed to "move the Supreme Court against the verdict".

Talking to DawnNews, a JUI-F worker said that they had congregated there to "welcome" the 26 "heroes" who had been acquitted by the ATC earlier today.

Six of the acquitted had reached Mardan, two had gone to Swat

while others were on their way, local sources said. One person, who was released by the ATC earlier today, was welcomed and garlanded by a jubilant crowd as he got off from a car.

Addressing the crowd, JUI-F's provincial general secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk said that "this issue [of Mashal Khan's verdict] will not end here". He also criticised the government for supporting the verdict.

Another provincial party leader warned that if the government did not release the convicts that were sentenced by the ATC, JUI-F will hold protests and added that the party "will not sit quietly [till the convicts are released]".

An ATC in Haripur jail had announced its verdict in the Mashal Khan lynching case earlier on Wednesday, handing one person two death sentences, five persons multiple terms of life imprisonment, and 25 others jail sentences, but acquitting 26 others for want of sufficient evidence.

-F as the local chapter of its central executive committee has expressed no confidence in the person of district general secretary Maulana Zahoor Ahmad.

Addressing a presser here on Monday, the committee members, including Mufti Kifaytullah, Maulana Mohammad Khan Qasmi and Qari Mohammad Aslam, alleged that the district general secretary was undermining the party's cause in Karak.

They said that the elements violating the party discipline and damaging its cause would be removed from the party.

They accused Zahoor Ahmad of spoiling the party's reputation in the district, saying that they had already submitted their vote of no confidence against him with the district vice-president Qari Jehanzeb and provincial general secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk.

The JUI-F leaders insisted that they had the support of 311 members of the executive council out of 496. They resolved to work according to the party's manifesto and take every step to strengthen it in the district.

Fazl wants to register sedition case against Imran, Qadri
2014-09-02
[DAWN] PESHAWAR: Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...the political wing of the Pak Taliban...
-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Deobandi holy man, known as Mullah Diesel during the war against the Soviets, his sympathies for the Taliban have never been tempered by honesty ...
has asked the government to register a sedition case against Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....

for violating constitution.

Addressing a meeting of JUI-F workers in Khyber Bazaar here on Sunday, he alleged that Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan were foreign agents, who wanted to destabilise the country to appease their 'masters'.

He said that the two parties paralysed the entire system by staging sit-in in Islamabad to gain powers through backdoor. He said that all the main stream political parties were united to foil such attempts.

Fazlur Rehman terms both the leaders foreign agents, who want to destabilise the country
Mr Rehman asked the government to register a sedition case against Imran and Qadri for violating constitution. He said that PTI chief failed to get resignation from his own party members but he was demanding resignation from the prime minister.

"Qadri is claiming to bring revolution in the country but no good can be expected from him as he himself has admitted allowing Christians into his mosques and seminaries," the JUI-F chief said, adding that the followers of Pope could not serve the purpose of Islam.

"We will take all possible steps for protection of constitution, assemblies and the government. We will prove our strength whenever needed," Mr Rehman said. He added that both the parties should wind up the protest as workers had already returned homes.

He said that the workers of PTI and PAT had enough of the prolonged and illogical sit-ins and they were no longer interested to damage the country's economy. He said that leaders of the two parities had repeatedly violated agreements with the government's negotiating teams and created uncertainty.

The JUI-F chief said that raising slogans against rigging was aimed at hollowing basis of the country and destabilising the system. The nation knew what the protestors had planned for appeasing their foreign masters, he added.

Appreciating the federal government, he said that formation of judicial commission was the only solution to the issue so that it could remove the unrest. PTI should also admit rigging of elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
, Mr Rehman said.

JUI-F provincial emir Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan and general secretary Maulana Shujaul Mulk also spoke on the occasion. They said that the protesting parties were spreading vulgarity by organising dancing parties during the sit-ins.

"We can easily gather such gatherings anywhere in the country to prove our strength against PTI and PAT but the party has not yet taken the decision," they said and asked the protesters to stop exploiting poor people for their own purposes.

Strict security measures were taken during the meeting and heavy contingents of police were deployed at the venue. All the link roads were closed by erecting barbed wire and cemented blocks to check movement of the suspected persons.

The meeting was scheduled at 11am but it started in the evening which caused serious inconvenience to the people owing to closure of the roads and suspension of traffic.

Religious parties wake up to Osama killing
2011-05-06
[Dawn] Finally the politico-religious parties of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
have come out of hibernation, issuing statements that they have no proof to deny killing of the late Osama bin Laden
... he's rotten though not quite forgotten...
but the US has also no evidence to show what it claims.
There's negative as well as positive proof, you ninnies. The negative proof is the lack of new pronouncements from the dear departed, other than the usual martyrdom video. The positive proof is the disappearance/arrest/death and dismemberment of those whose names might have been mentioned anywhere in the bin Laden trove. (We won't even address the claim of DNA results, because y'all believe Allah can do to DNA and tests what He wills.) But when the herd has been thinned enough, the remainder will believe their abstemious, mansion-housed hero is indeed dead.
The leaderships of Jamaat-i-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, inheritors of the political ideology of bin Laden, put their heads together here on Wednesday to discuss the post-Osama scenario.
That sounds like they actually do believe, despite claims otherwise.
With confused mind, the religious parties are still in a state of disbelief whether Al Qaeda chief had been killed in midnight operation by the US Navy Seals in Abbottabad on Monday. Religious parties in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa didn`t organise rallies and protest demonstrations and many remained tightlipped about the incident.
"Please don't hurt us."
An activist of a religious party said that those groups, which thrived largely on anti-American sentiments of people, swung into action only when they got green signal from "invisible forces."

"When the dust is settled then religious parties may get a go-ahead signal and will show reaction," he said.

Jamaat-i-Islami provincial chief Senator Ibrahim Khan said that US government claims regarding killing of Osama and his immediate burial in the sea required some credible evidences.
"Show the photos, Mr. President."
"We could not completely reject US claims but Washington should have to prove that Osama was killed in that specific compound," Senator Ibrahim told journalists after attending meeting at the party`s headquarters.

He said the question was why America didn`t show Osama`s body to the international media. Those questions needed satisfactory answers, he said, adding otherwise the news would find no takers.

He said that America had violated international law by sending its helicopters and forces into a sovereign country and carried out so-called operation in Abbottabad. He said that international law didn`t permit any foreign power to invade another country.
International law also doesn't allow a government to host forces which attack other countries, whether Afghanistan, India, or Denmark. Sauce for the gander/sauce for the goose, Senator Ibrahim.
Senator Ibrahim said that statement issued by the foreign office and other agencies in Islamabad had also created confusion. He termed President Zardari a major security risk for the country.

JUI-F, a staunch supporter of Taliban, has yet to come out of the confusion and doesn`t believe in the US claims. The party senior leader and former MNA Maulana Shujaul Mulk said that people didn`t accept that Americans would hunt down their enemy number one with so ease.
*Knock, knock* "Candy-gram."
"Nobody will buy the US claim. And how can people believe that Osama will stay in a large compound without guards and security," he said. The former parliamentarian from Mardan said that his party was evaluating the situation and would chalk out its future strategy.

JUI-F jirga in Tirah Valley to seek Fazl's advice
2008-07-26
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) peace jirga in the Tirah Valley of the Khyber Agency will meet party chief Fazlur Rehman after completing negotiations with militants on Friday.

Jirga members will inform Fazl of the progress in talks with Ansarul Islam (AI) and Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and seek his guidance for furthering the "peace process", JUI-F NWFP Information Secretary Haji Jalil Jan told Daily Times.

Sources said that JUI-F jirga failed to break the ice mainly because of the cold response from the AI of Qazi Mahboob. A source privy to the three-day negotiations at an undisclosed location in Khyber Agency said, "No prominent leader of the AI met the jirga members during their three-day stay in the area." The source said that the jirga members managed to meet only leaders and nominees of the LI of Bara-based warlord Mangal Bagh.

The jirga, headed by JUI-F NWFP Secretary General Maulana Shujaul Mulk, had launched their peace initiative in the Tribal Areas soon after the conclusion of the Bara operation. Without being able to arrange a truce between the two warring factions despite visits to the Tirah Valley, the jirga will now make another effort to meet representatives of the AI and discuss their peace formula, said the source. More than 60 people have been killed in fighting between the two militant outfits in the remote valley during the last month.

JUI-F jirga begins talks with AI
2008-07-23
A jirga comprising Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leaders began negotiations on Tuesday with Mullah Mehboob's Ansarul Islam (AI) -- a rival group of Mangal Bagh's Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) -- for a ceasefire between the two militant outfits. A first round of talks with the LI in Bara has ended, with the jirga -- headed by Mullah Shujaul Mulk -- beginning a second round of talks with AI leaders at an undisclosed location in Peshawar. Sources privy to the jirga meeting revealed that LI leaders were adamant over their demand not to include Pir Saifur Rehman's group at the talks. AI leaders did not attend the Bara negotiations with the LI leaders for security reasons. Sources quoted AI leaders as saying that they were ready to disassociate themselves from Pir Saifur Rehman's group but not willing to disown Haji Khanzada from the AI.

JUI-F jirga fails to end fighting between LI and AI in Tirah
2008-07-18
A grand jirga of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has failed to come up with a final decision to end fighting between two militant organisations in Khyber Agency.

The 56-member jirga met here on Thursday to discuss its meetings with the chiefs of Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and Ansarul Islam (AI) and to announce its decision regarding an end to fighting in the Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency. The meeting, however, merely set another date for further negotiations. More than 50 people have been killed in fighting between the LI and AI in the past month.

Another round: JUI-F provincial secretary general and head of the jirga Shujaul Mulk told reporters after the meeting that another jirga would be convened in Khyber Agency on July 22 to discuss an end to fighting and the restoration of peace. Mulk said that they would launch a decisive round of talks with both militant outfits and the negotiations would continue until a ceasefire was achieved between the warring sides. He said three members each from LI and AI and five members from the JUI-F would participate in the July 22 talks. The JUI-F jirga met LI chief Mangal Bagh and his AI counterpart Mullah Mehboob in Tirah last week. Mulk said that they had also decided to constitute a three-member committee to discuss peace in Mohmand Agency. The members included Mullah Samiullah, Mullah Mohabbat Khan and Mullah Sardar Ahmad.

Jirga on Tirah Valley clashes on 17th
2008-07-15
The JUI-F, which has been negotiating peace between two warring militant organisations in the Tirah Valley, said on Monday that a grand jirga would be held in Peshawar on July 17 to decide a truce. JUI-F NWFP General Secretary Shujaul Mulk, who led a delegation to the Tribal Areas to negotiate with the chiefs of the LI and the AI, told a press conference, "The JUI-F is optimistic about the outcome of the jirga from the way militant commanders received the JUI-F delegation." He said the jirga, which was previously scheduled to be held in the Hangu district, would be held in Peshawar due to the law and order situation in the valley. Separately, three more people were killed in clashes between the LI and the AI for the 19 consecutive day, bringing the toll to 115, Dawn News reported.
