Couple murdered by family in Lahore for marrying without consent
2016-06-11
[GEO.TV] A couple were murdered in Lahore on Friday for marrying without their family's consent, officials said, the second so-called "honour killing" reported from the quiet provincial capital this week.

Muhammad Ashraf, 56, killed his daughter Saba and her husband Karamat Ali a day after the couple returned to Lahore's Kahna area to smooth over rocky relations with the family who disapproved of the marriage, police said.

"18-year-old Saba had married Karamat Ali, who is 35, around a year and a half ago against the will of her family and returned to her home on Thursday night to settle matters with father and other family members," said Falak Sher, a local police official.

Ashraf, a security guard by profession, opened fire on his daughter and son-in-law after becoming infuriated during a heated conversation.

"He also killed his neighbour Muhammad Akram for supporting his daughter's marriage," said Sher, adding that Ashraf and his son Safdar later surrendered to police and confessed to the murders.

The incident comes just days after another woman in Lahore, Zeenat Bibi, was set on fire by her mother for marrying a man of her own choice. Bibi's mother later confessed to the crime.

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
ordered a comprehensive investigation into Bibi's killing, calling the crime un-Islamic.

2016-01-13
[DAWN] Three members of a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...

BNP-A candidate’s house torched in Kech
2015-12-31
Geneva Convention rules being applied in Pakistan elections...
[Dawn] GWADAR: The house of Mohammed Ali Rind, who is contesting the by-election for PB-50 Turbat-3 as a candidate of the Balochistan National Party-Awami, was torched on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Mand Bullo, a small town in Kech district along the border with Iran, Levies officials said.

They said that a group of armed men riding a vehicle reached the house early in the morning and set it on fire. No one was in the house at the time of the attack.

“All rooms and household items were gutted,” said Barkat Ali Rind, an eyewitness.

The fire could not be brought under control for hours as the town does not have any fire-extinguishing equipment.

Two days ago, armed men had torched the house of PML-N candidate Mir Akbar Askani in Tump area.

The third important candidate is former speaker of the Balochistan Assembly and leader of National Party, Muhammad Akram Dashti, whose house in Turbat town was also attacked.

By-election for PB-50 is scheduled for Thursday.

Gunmen target lawyer defending blasphemy accused
2014-12-05
[DAWN] Gunmen shot up the residence of a lawyer defending a university lecturer accused of blasphemy and dropped a letter warning him to withdraw from the case, police said Thursday.

Shahbaz Gormani escaped unhurt after gunnies riding cycle of violences attacked his residence in Multan late Wednesday.

Gormani had been appointed defence lawyer in the case after gunnies rubbed out Rashid Rehman, a defence counsel for Junaid Hafeez in May.

Hafeez, a lecturer at Bahauddin Zakariya University, was accused of allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Prophet Mohammed (PTUI!) in March last year.

Hafeez was known at the university for his liberal views and the blasphemy case was registered after pressure from right-wing student groups.

"Gunmen riding motorbikes fired indiscriminately outside the residence of Gormani and threw a pamphlet... warning him of serious consequences if he continues to pursue the case," senior police official Muhammad Salim told AFP.

"We are investigating the incident," he added.

Another police official Muhammad Akram confirmed the incident.

Gormani told AFP he survived the incident but demanded that the parliament enact laws to protect lawyers representing people accused of blasphemy.

Gunmen Target Pakistan Lawyer Defending Blasphemy Accused
2014-12-05
Of course. How could it be otherwise?
[AnNahar] Gunmen shot up the residence of a Pak lawyer defending a university lecturer accused of blasphemy and dropped a letter warning him to withdraw from the case, police said Thursday.

Shahbaz Gormani escaped unhurt after gunnies riding cycle of violences attacked his residence in the central city of Multan late Wednesday.

Gormani had been appointed defense lawyer in the case after gunnies rubbed out Rashid Rehman, a defense counsel for Junaid Hafeez in May.

Hafeez, a lecturer at Bahauddin Zakariya University, was accused of making derogatory remarks against the Prophet Mohammed in March last year.

Hafeez was known at the university for his liberal views and the blasphemy case was registered after pressure from right-wing student groups.

"Gunmen riding motorbikes fired indiscriminately outside the residence of Gormani and threw a pamphlet... warning him of serious consequences if he continues to pursue the case," senior police official Muhammad Salim told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

"We are investigating the incident," he added.

Another police official Muhammad Akram confirmed the incident.

Gormani told AFP he survived the incident but demanded that the parliament enact laws to protect lawyers representing people accused of blasphemy.

Blasphemy is a hugely sensitive issue in the majority Moslem country, with even unproven allegations often prompting mob violence.

Pakistain has never executed anyone for blasphemy and has had a de-facto moratorium on civilian executions since 2008.

But anyone convicted, or even just accused, of insulting Islam, risks a violent and bloody death at the hands of vigilantes.

SC rains on Ludhianvi's victory parade
2014-04-24
[DAWN] The Supreme Court cut short on Tuesday Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi's victory celebrations as it suspended an election tribunal's decision notifying him as the successful National Assembly candidate from NA-89 Jhang.

The chief of the proscribed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ) had challenged the eligibility of Sheikh Mohammad Akram, who had won the seat in the 2013 general elections, before an election tribunal. The tribunal found against Akram on April 9 and on April 18, the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) declared Ludhianvi, the candidate with the second highest number of votes, successful without going for re-polling.

On Tuesday, after a preliminary hearing, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali suspended both the April 9 judgment of the election tribunal and the subsequent ECP notification. "We are inclined to issue notices to the respondents for a date to be fixed by the office within four weeks," the bench observed.

The court gave the interim order on a petition filed by Sheikh Muhammad Akram, who had won the seat on a PML-N ticket. He contested the polls because his son Sheikh Waqas Akram -- who was originally supposed to vie for the National Assembly seat -- was beset by legal challenges from his opponents.

In his complaint before the tribunal, Ludhianvi alleged that Sheikh Akram had been involved in electoral rigging and other illegal practices.

Appearing before the apex court on Tuesday, Akram's counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan argued that the tribunal had disqualified his client on two grounds: firstly that the CNIC number of the individuals who seconded Sheikh Akram's nomination was incorrect; and, secondly that he had failed to disclose in his nomination papers an FIR that was filed against him.

Both these grounds, the counsel argued, were based on a misreading of the record and the relevant legal provisions, adding that there had been no violation of election rules to justify the tribunal's decision to unseat Sheikh Muhammad Akram.

The NA-89 Jhang constituency has long been a hotbed of sectarian strife. Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain
...a Sunni Deobandi organization, a formerly registered Pak political party, established in the early 1980s in Jhang by Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi. Its stated goal is to oppose Shia influence in Pakistain. They're not too big on Brelvis, either. Or Christians. Or anybody else who's not them. The organization was banned in 2002 as a terrorist organization, but somehow it keeps ticking along, piling up the corpse counts...
(SSP) founder Haq Nawaz Jhangvi won the seat in the 1998 general elections.

In 2002, Maulana Azam Tariq of the SSP successfully ran for election while he was incarcerated, beating Sheikh Waqas and Dr Tahirul Qadri in the polls.

Following Tariq's liquidation in 2003, Sheikh Waqas Akram took the seat in the ensuing by-elections, beating the slain SSP chief's brother Maulana Alam Tariq.

In the 2008 general elections, Ludhianvi campaigned as an independent against Sheikh Waqas Akram, who contested on a PML-Q ticket. Sheikh Waqas won the election with 51,976 votes while Ludhianvi came in second with 45,216 votes.

Four absconders killed in 'shootout'
2012-06-20
[Dawn] Four proclaimed offenders were killed in a 'suspected' shootout with the CIA police at an outhouse near T-4 locality of Islampura early Monday.

Police claimed that suspects were involved in murder, dacoity, kidnapping for ransom and other heinous crimes and were wanted by Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Lahore police in a number of cases.
Clearly not amateurs...
According to police, an under-investigation accused, Muhammad Attique alias Balokan,
No doubt that's cooler in the original Urdu.
disclosed that his three accomplices Zahid alias Raju, Altaf alias Tafa and Sadiq alias Babbi were involved in a number of heinous crimes in Lahore and they took shelter in the tribal area after committing crimes.
Correction: original Pashto.
He said presently his accomplices were hiding at an outhouse of Chaudhry Abid and could be arrested after a raid.
"The Number Three pliers for this one, Corporal Md."
"Yessir, Sergeant Mahmudullah! And some biscuits to go with your tea at the break -- you'll want to rebuild your strength, sir."
At this, CIA SP Muhammad Umar Virk constituted a raiding party headed by SI Muhammad Akram of Civil Lines division CIA. As the team reached the spot, the suspects opened fire on police which resulted in serious injuries to accused Attique alias Balokan of Misri Shah.

The raiding party returned the fire which continued for about an hour. When the firing from suspects stopped, police found accused Altaf alias Tafa and Sadiq alias Babbi, both brothers and residents of Ferozewala, dead on the spot while their third accomplice Zahid alias Raju seriously injured. He also expired while being taken to a hospital.

Police recovered four Kalashnikovs, Rs2 million, several bullets and three pistols from the spot.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 324/353/186 PPC and AO 13/20/65.

However, not a single policeman was injured in the shootout and only the arrested suspect, what police claimed, suffered injuries in firing of his accomplices.
Astounding.
A source in the CIA police said that suspects had been in police custody for one month and were killed in a staged encounter.
Pshaw! And again I say pshaw!
According to a police record, at least 38 cases were registered against the suspects in Faisalabad, Sheikhupura and Lahore districts.
No one can say they weren't dedicated to their craft...
As many as 27 cases were registered against Zahid alias Raju, six each against Altaf alias Tafa and Sadiq alias Babbi, and five against Attique alias Balokan.

The suspects were involved in the murder of two persons in the Ferozewala police station area; abduction of Misri Shah trader Ijaz Butt's son Talha and his release after receiving Rs4 million and several other heinous crimes, including a police encounter in Badami Bagh which resulted in the killing of SI Naveed Bhatti.

Attique was in the custody of Civil Lines (CIA) while three others were captured by the Cantonment CIA.

Social terrorism: religious vendetta against Ahmadis
2012-04-18
[Dawn] Religious persecution of people from Ahmadiyya community is not a new development in Pakistain. Ahmadis have long been marginalised from the time when they were declared non-Mohammedans in the amendment introduced in 1973's Constitution. Since then, they have been facing the wrath of many Mohammedans who have fundamental views and refuse to trade, dine and even sit with them.

Whether it is about banning a certain juice brand, expelling Ahmadi students from universities or failure to recognise the only Pak Nobel Laureate, the hatred fuelled by religious holy mans knows no boundaries.

Academic institutions remain an arena of conflicting views, hence often turning into another platform for religious fundamentalists to brainwash impressionable minds.

The University of Sargodha, which is in close proximity to Rabwah, is one of a very few universities which houses and educates students from Ahmadiyya community. The university has reportedly been a congenial institute where administration and management support students from different beliefs and schools of thought. However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
ubiquity of myrmidons, who use religion for their political interests, has contaminated the otherwise pleasant environment.

"I received a text message from my best friend, a week back, which said we should stop being friends because you are an Ahmadi and my allegiance with you is not considered appropriate within the parameters of my religion," said a student of University of Sargodha.

"A couple of days ago, during a laboratory session, some students disrupted the lecture and started preaching how Ahmadis are non-Mohammedans and are wajib-ul-qatal (eligible to be killed)," said another student on condition of anonymity.

According to a student, the so-called religious sermon took place in the presence of a teacher, which signified his involvement in the 'brainwashing' and 'hate speech campaign' against the Ahmadiyya community.

Brochures and booklets, entailing details of how Ahmadis should be prosecuted, are also being circulated amongst the students. So far, Ahmadi students have not been threatened, however, students report that they are constantly being followed and other students have boycotted them completely.

"Nobody sits with us. Nobody is willing to talk to us. Most importantly, people enter the lecture session and use abusive language against our religious holy mans which is why we have stopped attending classes," added another student.

"We miss lectures and when we go back, asking for notes and presentation slides, nobody provides us with the material."

According to the account of events narrated by various students, the religious repression is only prevalent in the Department of Pharmacy.

The Dean of the department, Prof Dr Muhammad Zahoor-ul-Hassan Dogar said, "I am not aware of any such events, however, I must say that a couple of such incidents took place a year and a half ago in our Medical College. I looked into the matter personally and punished the students responsible for such horrendous propaganda against the students of our university."

"I understand that it is difficult for students from Ahmadiyya community to trust any of us because of the reasons that we all know, however, unless these students report such incidents, we will not be able to take action against the culprits," he added.

Most of the students are of the view that since the majority of the other students were treating them as social outcasts, reporting this incident, to appropriate authorities, will further infuriate the perpetrators.

"I do not feel safe living in the dorm anymore so I now travel from Rabwah to Sargodha every day. I tried to inform a couple of officials, however, I was hesitant because the issue is still hot and I do not want to invite more enemies," said a female student.

Muhammad Akram Tufani, representative of Students Tahaffuz Khatam-e-Nabuwat, on being asked about the primary reason which instigated this campaign against Ahmadi students, said, "Ahmadis call themselves Mohammedans and that is unacceptable for us."

"They think they are better off than us religiously and they preach other students about their religion. We will not have them preach their religion to Mohammedan students," added Tufani.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
Dogar said that Tufani has no connection with the students of the university and reassured that he cannot influence them in any way.

Students belonging to Ahmadiyya community said that this campaign was initiated on false accusations. Students and certain faction of teachers have been saying that a religious leader from Ahmadiyya community came to discuss our religion with other students; however, this is completely untrue.

Living by the ideology of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, which emphasised primarily on coexistence, all the citizens of Pakistain are entitled to live according to their own religious beliefs. Spreading hatred and creating religious divergence have never benefited us as a nation and will continue to hamper our growth.

The religious vendetta against different minorities is an open question mark to our psychological growth. Unless we curb our hostilities toward other people and provide them with equal opportunities to live, we will not be able to succeed as a nation or even as an individual.

Students, who are responsible to build the foundation of the country, should not be targeted. Mixing education with religious politics can have disastrous effects, which is why it is best to keep our prejudices aside and exist together without sidelining people who perhaps have much to offer to us as a nation.
