Bangladesh police: Suspected Rohingya rebels kill another refugee camp watchman
2022-09-22
[BenarNews] A Rohingya volunteer watchman was killed at a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar allegedly by Rohingya Death Eaters, making him the fifth victim of such an attack by armed rebels, Bangladeshi police said Wednesday.

While police wouldn’t say whether the suspected assailants belonged to the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA)
... in Arabic Harakah al-Yaqin or Harkat ul Yaqin (Faith Movement, HaY), is led by a committee in Saudi Arabia, and commanded on the ground by a group of 20 jihadis fronted by one Ata Ullah a.k.a. Hafiz Tohar a.k.a. Jununi, etc., who was born in Karachi and reared in Saudi Arabia. ARSA may or may not be a false-nose-and-mustache front for Aqa Mul Mujahideen, a minor jihadi group linked to al-Qaeda and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO). At any rate, ARSA has the vocal support of al-Qaeda’s Bangladesh offshoot Ansar al-Islam as well as Hizbut Tahrir, and has been running amok in the Cox’s Bazaar refugee camps...
Death Eater group, residents of the sprawling camps near the Myanmar border insist that it was behind these attacks on the volunteer Rohingya security guards.

A group of 20-25 gunnies attacked volunteer security watchmen early Wednesday morning at the Balukhali camp in the Ukhia sub-district, said Md. Faruk Ahmed, assistant superintendent of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn-8), who identified the dead victim as 35-year-old Mohammad Jafor.

"The gang attacked Jafor around 3:30 a.m. and stabbed him with a sharp weapon," the police officer said, adding that Jafor was later hacked with machetes.

"The rebel Rohingya groups are facing obstacles to committing any offence inside the camps due to the volunteer guards. That’s why they are now trying to challenge the security of the camp through such attacks," he said.

According to the police, including Jafor, at least five Rohingya volunteer watchmen and three camp leaders have been killed since July. According to APBN officials, almost 8,000 Rohingya volunteer for guard duty.

Night-time guards were introduced at the camps in October following the September 2021 killing of Rohingya leader Muhib Ullah, who had drawn international attention to the refugees’ plight and visited the White House in Washington.

In a report issued in June, Bangladesh police alleged that ARSA leader Ataullah Abu Ahmmar Jununi had ordered Muhib Ullah assassinated because he was popular.

Jubair blamed ARSA for killing Rohingya leaders who call for refugees to repatriate to Rakhine, their home state in nearby Myanmar. He said that while ARSA claimed that its members were working to "defend and protect" Rohingya against state repression in Myanmar, they wouldn’t flinch in attacking refugees.

ARSA, formerly known as al-Yaaqin, is the Rohingya Death Eater group that launched coordinated deadly attacks on Burmese government military and police outposts in Rakhine that provoked a crackdown that began on Aug. 25, 2017 and forced close to three-quarters of a million people to seek shelter in Bangladesh.

For years since the 2017 exodus into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladeshi government officials denied that ARSA had a foothold or presence in the sprawling camps, which house about 1 million refugees. But that changed with Muhib Ullah’s killing by a group of button men and other attacks that followed.

Md. Harun, a security volunteer and community leader, told BenarNews about Wednesday’s attack: "We suspect that the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army is behind this latest attack."

HASINA ON ROHINGYA REPATRIATION
Earlier, on Tuesday, Bangladeshi border guards and police arrested 22 people, including seven Rohingya refugees, when they were trying to go to Malaysia by boat via the Bay of Bengal.

Teknaf Model Police Station chief Hafizur Rahman said that of the 15, seven were Rohingya and the rest were Bangladeshi nationals. And of the 15 Bangladeshis, five were working as agents to send the remaining 10 of their compatriots to Malaysia, the officer said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, Buford bit the snake and Eloise began speaking in tongues...
Bangladesh Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina

She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums...
on Tuesday again urged the international community and the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
to hasten the repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya to Myanmar, state news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.

Hasina made this call while U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi paid her a courtesy call in New York on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly proceedings.

Hasina also emphasized enhancing the U.N. refugee agency’s activities in Myanmar on Rohingya issues.

The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB), a well known terror group, were identified in the blast on October 2 2014.
India appears to be putting considerable energy against clearing old cases lately — or is it just that it takes this long to get cases to trial, and they’ve finally arrived?
Three suspected bad boyz were potted and injured while making kabooms and bombs at a rented residence in the Khagragarh area of the Bardhaman town in West Bengal.

Following Kausar’s sentencing, 31 out of the total 33 accused in the infamous case have been found guilty, and have subsequently been sentenced. The other two accused have escaped.

The preliminary charge sheet was filed in March 2015 by the NIA. It stated that there was a "conspiracy of JMB, a proscribed organization in Bangladesh, to overthrow the existing government in Bangladesh through violent mostly peaceful terrorist acts," reports the New Indian Express.

The investigation was initially taken over by the state CID, and was later transferred to the NIA within a couple of days.

NIA charge sheets 5 members of Bangladesh terror group JMB-ISIS in Assam
2020-01-26
Is ISIS still cool after losing their caliphate the hard way? At any rate, here is another of their Indian subcontinent affiliates.
[HindustanTimes] According to the charge sheet, the five accused men procured weapons and ammunition with the aim of committing terrorist acts.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a charge sheet in a special court in Guwahati against five members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s, which remains obscure and probably defunct today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB), a Bangladeshi terror outfit banned in the neighbouring country and in India.

The charge was filed against Hafizur Rahman, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammed Hafiz Safiqul Islam, all residents of Barpeta district in Assam arrested in July last year.

According to the charge sheet, the case came to light with the arrest of Hafizur Rahman from his house in Barpeta and the seizure of a country made revolver, several rounds of live ammunition and some Jihadi literature.

Based on his interrogation, the local police started the paperwork but haven't done much else and arrested the four other accused. The case registered under sections of Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was later transferred to the NIA.

Investigations by the NIA revealed that all the accused were recruited to JMB by one Sahanur Alom, a resident of Barpeta who was arrested by the agency in 2014 for his involvement in the Burdwan blast case of West Bengal in which two people were killed.
..forcing us to conclude our miscreants were recruited before the 2014 arrest...
Alom has already been convicted and is serving a eight year jail sentence on charges of "conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting and training other members of JMB".

"Accused persons in the instant case have undergone training as JMB cadres in Barpeta at the house of Sahanur Alom and some accused were also trained at Simulia Madrasa in West Bengal," said a NIA release.

The charge sheet states that the five accused procured weapons and ammunition with the aim of committing terrorist acts.

Hindu priest in Bangladesh hacked to death, ISIS claims murder
2016-06-08
More on this from yesterday.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Suspected bully boyz in Bangladesh hacked an elderly Hindu priest to death on Tuesday, in what police suspected was the latest in a spate of attacks by Islamists on minority groups in the majority-Moslem country.

Three cycle of violence-borne attackers slit the throat of Ananta Gopal Ganguly, 70, while he was enroute to the temple he served in the district of Jhenaidah, about 100 miles (161 km) west of Dhaka, the capital, police said.

"They almost beheaded him before they expeditiously departed at a goodly pace," said police official Hasan Hafizur Rahman.

The attack bore the hallmarks of previous killings by Islamist bully boys. The government banned more than one person riding pillion on a cycle of violence on Monday a day after the wife of a prominent anti-terror security official was rubbed out by three suspected bully boyz on a cycle of violence.

ISIS grabbed credit for killing Ganguly, the US-based monitoring service SITE said, quoting the bully boy group’s Amaq news agency.

Rahman dismissed the group’s claim as "baseless", saying it had no organizational base in Bangladesh and domestic bully boyz were responsible.

A 60-year-old Christian grocer was also hacked to death after Sunday prayers in an attack claimed by ISIS.

Bangladesh has not seen the sort of Islamist violence that has rocked Moslem Pakistain, or even the number of attacks that India has seen over the past decade or so.

Since February last year, bully boyz have killed more than 30 people in Bangladesh, including members of religious minorities, liberal bloggers and academics.

ISIS and al Qaeda have grabbed credit for most of the killings, but the government denies either group has a presence in Bangladesh.

IS claims responsibility for Jhenaidah murder

yesterday claimed that their members had killed the elderly homoeopathy doctor in Jhenaidah, Chhamir Uddin Mandal, on Thursday.

The US-based SITE Intelligence Group that monitors bad boy activity said the jihadist group had asserted that it killed the man because he converted from Islam, Rooters said.

"Soldiers of the caliphate were able to eliminate the apostate, named 'Samir al-Din', by stabbing him with a knife," SITE quoted the group as saying.

Religious extremism has surged in recent months in Muslim-majority Bangladesh with the IS claiming responsibility for the killings of foreigners, attacks on mosques and Christian priests over the last few months. On the other hand, newly-formed group al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent earlier claimed responsibilities for the murder of several secularists.

But the government has rejected Islamic State's claims of involvement, blaming political opponents and banned Lion of Islam group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh

for the attacks.

Son of Surat Ali Mandal from Kaluhati village, Chhamir, 85, was converted to Christianity in 1993, but again switched back to Islam around four years back, locals said. Chhamir used to say prayers at the local mosque.

Sadar police OC Hassan Hafizur Rahman said Chhamir had been practising homoeopathy for the last 40 years at Belekhal Bazar. He could not ascertain why the doctor had been killed.

When contacted, Chhamir's family members said they were in the dark about the motive behind the murder.

Locals who went to the chamber around 3pm found him sitting on his chair. They first thought that he might have suffered a stroke, but later saw that he was stabbed two to three times on his chest.

The OC said that the killers might have chosen the time as there was a bull-cart race under way at the nearby ground.

Chhamir's son Monirul Islam filed a case on Thursday night against some unnamed persons.

School headteacher assaulted over student caning
2015-03-29
[Dhaka Tribune] Angry guardians and locals in Bagha upazila beat up the head teacher of a school and broke two of his teeth after a teacher caned 42 eighth-graders for refusing to pay picnic fees yesterday.

Nazrul Islam, headmaster of Chandipur High School, was assaulted when he came out of his office and tried to calm the guardians aggrieved at the beating of the students by assistant teacher Md Ali, police said.

The picnic was scheduled to be held today.

Several students of the eighth grade said Ali began caning them when many of the 106 students refused to pay the picnic fee of Tk100, terming it too high.

Ruma Yasmin, a student of the class, was maimed in the beating and the news quickly spread among locals.

Hafizur Rahman, father of a student, rushed to the school but Ali blasted him and forced him to leave school premises, said a student.

"The father came back shortly with several other guardians and locals, and demonstrated on the school compound demanding removal of the headmaster and Ali," said Bagha cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge Aminur Rahman.

Bagha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Badal Chandra Haldar arrived on the scene along with police around 11am and took Nazrul to the upazila health complex.

But the guardians confined Ali to the school building till midday.

OC Aminur said police later rescued Ali and took him to the cop shoppe.

The headmaster told news hounds that the beating of the students was an unexpected and sorrowful incident.

Ali meanwhile said he lightly caned the students as he could not easily accept the refusal to pay the fee.

But some guardians claimed that Ali had previous records of beating students over trivial issues and demanded that he be disciplined.

The upazila nirbahi officer told the Dhaka Tribune that Ali had submitted his resignation in the face of protest by the guardians.

Jamaat attacks cops again: 8 injured in 2 districts
2012-12-08
[Bangla Daily Star] Eight more coppers, including an assistant commissioner and an OC, were maimed during attacks on them by Jamaat-Shibir activists at Pirojpur and Rajshahi towns yesterday.

The law enforcers locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
25 activists from both towns in connection with their alleged involvement in the attacks.

Six coppers including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station were maimed during a clash between Jamaat-Shibir activists and law enforcers in front of a mosque of Sayeedi Foundation on bypass road.

Police and witnesses said around 200 activists of Jamaat-Shibir gathered in front of the mosque after performing their Juma prayers to hold a rally demanding release of Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi
...Islamic orator and politician. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami...
and other party leaders.

On information, police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse the activists. Jamaat-Shibir men, divided into several groups, swooped on the police with sticks and other sharp weapons.

A wrangle between the activists and police led to a chase and counter chase in the area. Jamaat-Shibir supporters threw brickbats at police, prompting the law enforcers to charge batons, fire four rounds of tear shells and 20 rubber bullets.

Police arrested three activists--Hafez Hafizur Rahman, Mustak Ahmed and Sirajul Islam--from the spot, reports our correspondent in Barisal.

A case would be filed against the activists on charge of attacking the law enforcers, said N M Murshid, acting superintendent of police of the district.

In Rajshahi, a police constable was stabbed allegedly by Jamaat-Shibir activists while an assistant commissioner of police came under attack by locals during his attempt to nab the activists at Dharampur early yesterday.

The injured coppers are constable Shariful Islam of Motihar Police Station, and Assistant Commissioner (AC) Abul Hasnat of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

RMP Commissioner SM Moniruzzaman blamed Jamaat and Shibir activists for launching the pre-planned attacks on both coppers.

Police arrested 22 activists of Jamaat-Shibir for their alleged involvement in the incidents, reports our staff correspondent in Rajshahi.

Quoting Shariful, police officials said a gang of six to seven people swooped on Shariful while he was going to join his duty as a guard at Bangladesh Betar Transmission Tower at Binodpur around 2:00am.

Nayek Romesh Kumar Ghosh said they dragged Shariful to a roadside tree and stabbed him indiscriminately after knocking him down on the ground.

Hearing Shariful's scream, other coppers rushed to the spot and the attackers fled through the orchards of the Radio tower garden, he added.

Stabbed severely in the legs, the constable was first taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and later shifted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka for better treatment.

Later AC Hasnat along with a police team went to Binodpur around 4:00am to nab the suspected attackers -- Sabuj and Rajib.

As the police members raided their house, its female members swooped on Hasnat with sharp weapons.

Sabuj and Rajib fled through the bamboo fence of their house when coppers were busy in the tussle with their family members, police said.

Rajib's mother Shahar Banu and aunt Motijan Begum were maimed as police charged baton on them. They were undergoing treatment at RMCH.

RMP Commissioner Moniruzzaman said "It is undoubtedly the work of Jamaat-Shibir activists as the injured police members had no involvement in any local affairs."

"The attempts on their lives were similar to the recent attacks on police by Jamaat-Shibir men," he added.

Sanaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, said two cases were filed in connection with the incidents.
