's Nipa flyover.

The police saw the attack as a conspiracy to sabotage peace in the city and trigger chaos in the country.

Taqi Usmani, belonging to the famous Darul Uloom Korangi seminary, was travelling along with his family in a car while another car belonging to his close aide was following behind.

When they descended from the ramp while coming from Rashid Minhas Road towards University Road, four button men riding two cycle of violences opened indiscriminate firing on his vehicle at NIPA (now NIM) roundabout.

4 policemen gunned down in Karachi's SITE area during iftar

[DAWN] Four coppers were bumped off in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's SITE area on Friday in what appeared to be an incident of murder, officials told Dawn.

SITE Station House Officer (SHO) Rana Maqsood said the coppers were having iftar at a hotel located between Siemens Chowk and Habib Bank Chowrangi when three unidentified persons on two cycle of violences opened fire on them.

The coppers ─ Assitant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yousuf, and police constables Shabir, Khalid and Israr ─ was struck down in his prime while the suspects managed to escape.

Maqsood initially claimed that the assailants belonged to a "defunct terrorist organization".

However,

Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) official Raja Umer Khattab told Dawn that a new krazed killer organization called the Jamaat-ul-Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
Pakistain had grabbed credit for the attack on the coppers in pamphlets dropped at the site of the shooting.

Members of the krazed killer outfit had doubled back to the scene of the crime after the attack and dropped pamphlets claiming responsibility for the attack, Khattab said.

Khattab said that the krazed killer organization was "newly established" and had previously grabbed credit for the murder of a retired army officer in Karachi.

(LJ) beat feet from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
’s central prison in one of the most daredevil moves in recent months by the inmates of the jail, officials and sources said on Wednesday.

The prison was claimed to be safeguarded heavily after multiple operations to foil escape attempts including the October 2014 operation by the Rangers to find a 45-metre-long tunnel being built just a few metres from the facility to spring 100 ’dangerous bad boys’.

The actual circumstances which led to the escape of the bandidos bully boyz are shrouded in mystery as police officials said they were informed about the incident after "considerable delay".

A senior police official ─ who wished not to be named ─ told Dawn that the police received a letter from DIG Prisons, Ashraf Ali Nizamani, on Wednesday evening, stating that the two under-trial prisoners have escaped and that the DIG wanted registration of the case against the escaped UTPs and several jail officials over their alleged negligence.

The DIG Prisons’ letter also did not mention the exact date of the escape of the prisoners.

According to the DIG Prisons’ letter obtained by Dawn, the inmates namely Sheikh Muhammad Mumtaz ─ alias Firoon alias Sher Khan alias Shahzad alias Rahi ─ and Muhammad Ahmed Khan alias Munna had beat feet from ’judicial complex of Central Prison Karachi’.

"Two under-trial prisoners were found missing and reported to have beat feet from the Judicial Complex adjacent to Central Prison Karachi," said the DIG Prisons’ letter dated June 14.

Raja Umer Khattab, a bigwig of the police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) told Dawn that they were not informed about the timing of the escape of the UTPs. He said the both LJ bandidos bully boyz were nabbed
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
by the CTD police in 2013.

Khattab said they were both hardcore LJ bandidos bully boyz and that Sheikh Mumtaz alias Firoon, a resident of Orangi Town was involved in assassination'>assassinations of 57 persons including members of Shia community and the police. He had 32 cases registered against him.

Similarly, Khattab said Ahmed alias Munna, a resident of Korangi was involved in seven assassination'>assassination cases.

They belonged to Qasim Rasheed group, which was linked with Naeem Bukhari-led LJ outfit.

Khattab claimed that the law enforcers had almost wiped out Naeem Bukhari-led LJ outfit but now their two members had escaped.

He said they considered the escape of the bandidos bully boyz from the prison as a "worrying development".

The CTD official said the jail administration had recently taken several steps to secure the jail but despite this, the UTPs managed to escape.

Khattab also said that the CTD team would visit the Central Prison on Thursday to ascertain the circumstances behind the prisoners' escape.

The jail administration has suspended 12 jail staff including Superintendent Central Prison Ghulam Murtaza Sheikh, Deputy Superintendent Faheem Memon and Assistant Superintendent Abdul Rehman Sheikh.

AQIS involvement feared in North Nazimabad gun and grenade attacks
2017-01-09
[DAWN] While law-enforcement agencies picked up 15 suspects in connection with the Friday grenade and gun attacks in North Nazimabad, a bigwig of the Counter-Terrorism Department on Saturday believed that the attacks were the handiwork of snuffies of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

On Friday, two men riding a cycle of violence first threw a grenade at the North Nazimabad Police Complex that also houses the Taimuria cop shoppe and then fired at personnel of traffic police at the Five Star traffic intersection, killing a rickshaw driver.

Police and paramilitary Rangers launched a joint combing operation in North Nazimabad and took into custody 15 criminals involved in "terrorist activities", said a Rangers spokesperson in a statement on Saturday.

The held suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action, he added.

Officials said they were pursuing all angles to identify the assailants and the possible motive behind the two attacks.

"The modus operandi appears to be of banned jihadi outfits as they had been involved in similar acts of terrorism in the same vicinity of North Nazimabad and other localities," said CTD official Raja Umer Khattab.

He suspected the involvement of banned AQIS in both the incidents.

He believed that the AQIS network in the city had been weakened following the April 2016 arrests of their members who were involved in some improvised bomb (IED) attacks on law-enforcement agencies in the metropolis. Since the Taimuria cop shoppe came under grenade attack, it indicated that the banned krazed killer outfit now lacked IED-making expertise, he added.

Regarding their possible motive, the CTD official said that the snuffies wanted to make their presence felt in the city.

Regarding the assassination'>assassination of Sub-Inspector Iqbal Mehmood, who was bumped off on Wednesday night on main Rashid Minhas Road, he said that Sherlocks had ruled out the involvement of any banned krazed killer outfits in the killing.

He said that the Sherlocks were looking into the cases on which the slain officer was working and some progress was made in ascertaining the identity and motive of the killers.

2016-11-28
KARACHI: A member of Ahmadi community was shot dead in suspected sectarian attack in Gulzar-i-Hijri area on Sunday evening, according to Sachal police and the community official.
Allah created the Ahmaddis and all other semi-believers and unbelievers as targets for the masters of the master religion to play with, if Pakistan provides any example.
They added that as Shaikh Sajid Mehmood, 55, came out from his home in Kaneez Fatima Society off Superhighway, four suspects riding on two motorcycles opened fire on him and fled.

He sustained critical bullet injuries and was transported to JPMC where doctors declared him as dead on arrival, said Dr. Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital. He had sustained multiple bullet wounds.

Sachal police officer said that the victim belonged to Ahmadi community.

“This was third such targeting killings in the same vicinity during last several months,” said a spokesperson of Jamaat Ahmadiya.

Previously, Khaleeq and Daud were gunned down in Gulzar-e-Hijri.

The spokesperson told Dawn that the victim was an auto-parts dealer.

Police suspect sectarian motive behind murder

Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department official Raja Umer Khattab told Dawn that the killing of the DSP Shigri and Ahmadi man were motivated by sectarian considerations.

He suspected involvement of the same group behind the both incidents.

Khattab revealed that a ‘new group’ had emerged during last five-six months, which was targeting Ahmadi men near adjoining areas of Sohrab Goth and Shia community members in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The CTD official said previously, Al-Qaeda targeted people in Gulistan-i-Jauhar whose members later on joined Islamic State but this gang was busted in 2013.

He revealed that prior to attack on the DSP Shigri, unknown gunmen attacked a vehicle of DSP Traffic Gulberg Zafar Husain near Samama Shopping Centre in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, however, he remained unhurt.

in June.

The CTD's Raja Umer Khattab, officer in-charge of Transnational Terrorism Intelligence Group (TTIG), told Dawn that during an initial interrogation, Capri confessed the men had targeted the famous qawwal as he used to attend majalis in the month of Muharram.

Capri also claimed that Sabri had done a programme on TV channel in which slain activist Khurram Zaki allegedly uttered some questionable words that the qawwal had supported.

According to Khattab, Capri, originally a resident of Karachi's Gulbahar area, shifted to Amjad Sabri's neighbourhood with the intention of targeting him.

The CTD claimed that Capri's two brothers are also faceless myrmidons who are languishing in jails, whereas his third brother was killed in a sectarian attack.

Bobby, considered a ’computer expert,' told the Sherlocks that he had collected material from the internet regarding the activities of the qawwal, Khattab claimed.

According to the CTD, Bobby, considered an 'expert shooter' was the one to hit Amjad Sabri. A resident of Karachi's Orangi Town, Bobby is a Hafiz-e-Koran who joined LJ in 2012, the CTD said.

Two of Bobby's accomplices, along with other murderous Moslems, were killed in an encounter with law enforcement agencies during a deadly terror attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport in June 2014.

The CTD said the suspected terrorists were gathered at the house located in North Karachi's 5/B-1. A team of CTD personnel surrounded the house and surrounding areas and ordered the suspected terrorists to surrender themselves.

The CTD claimed the 'terrorists' opened fire at the police and hurled hand grenades at them, to which the police responded by hurling gas shells inside the house forcing them to evacuate to the roof from where they were arrested.

In May, the police claimed to have killed three AQIS operatives involved in sectarian killings.

Malir SSP Rao Anwar had told Dawn that the police took the action on a tip-off and conducted a raid in Gulshan-i-Buner, where they were attacked by gunmen. The police returned fire and killed three suspects.

Student killed by trigger-happy policemen in plain clothes
2016-07-13
KARACHI: A college student selling a mobile phone was killed while a suspected robber posing as a buyer was wounded late on Sunday night when trigger-happy policemen in plain clothes fired at them in the Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society, officials said on Monday.

The policemen, however, fled the area in a police mobile van shortly after the episode that drew the attention of the top officials who ordered an impartial probe into the incident and sought recommendations for legal action against the policemen.

The policemen involved in the shooting and the police mobile van remained untraceable, officials told Dawn.

According to the Ferozabad police, 21-year-old Abrar-ul-Hasan, a resident of Keamari, had advertised his mobile phone for sale on a website (OLX). He was later contacted by a man, Dil Nawaz, over phone and they agreed to meet in Saddar on Sunday night for the deal.

The police said Dil Nawaz posing as a buyer remained seated in his car near Lucky Star when Abrar approached him. He examined the mobile phone and kept it with him. As the seller demanded Rs15,000, the suspect drove the car in an attempt to flee. But the young man managed to get into the car. When they reached the SMCHS, the policemen travelling in a mobile van saw them fighting with each other inside the car. “The policemen might have assumed it as a kidnapping or robbery bid and opened fire on them,” said Gulshan-i-Iqbal superintendent of police Dr Fahad Ahmed, who is also holding the charge of Jamshed Town SP.

Both the seller and the imposter sustained gunshot wounds, the officer said. The police mobile van did not belong to the area police station, he added. It is not known that why the policemen involved in the incident disappeared afterwards. Some witnesses said the mobile van belonged to the Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) while others said it belonged to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police, according to the police officer.

SP Ahmed said the wounded men were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Abrar was pronounced dead.

Initial probe indicated that the wounded man, Dil Nawaz, had allegedly been involved in cheating people. The number plate of the white Honda City car that he was travelling in was “fake”, he said.

The officer told Dawn that the police obtained CCTV footage from the area and it showed that “the mobile, which resembles the police mobile” was chasing the car from Lucky Star in Saddar.

The police spokesperson said that IG police A.D. Khowaja took notice of the media reports that the policemen in civilian dress and travelling in a mobile van gunned down the youth. The police chief directed the Karachi-East Zone DIG to carry out fair, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident and submit a detailed report to him with recommendations for legal action against the policemen.

Ferozabad SHO Kansan Dean, meanwhile, said they had invited the victim’s father to lodge an FIR so that formal investigation could be initiated to trace the culprits.

Four CTD policemen booked

On Monday night, the police said the SMCHS incident had been ‘resolved’ as it had been proved during the investigation that four personnel of the Counter-Terrorism Department were involved in it, according to the CTD head, Raja Umer Khattab.

He said he held an inquiry into the incident during which three policemen surrendered before him and narrated the event while the fourth one, who had actually fired the shots, was taken into custody from his home.

The held policemen were identified as Saeed, Rashid, Nadeem and Kaleem — all constables.

ISIS inspired militant held for Safoora Goth bus attack
2016-03-26
KARACHI: A suspected militant, who was educated enough to get a job in a multinational company, has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the Safoora Goth bus carnage and rights activist Sabeen Mahmud murder cases, sources said on Thursday.

They said that an intelligence agency arrested Ali Rehman alias Toona, an engineer by profession and an accomplice of Saad Aziz, the prime suspect in the two cases, in a raid in Punjab, where he had been hiding after the May 2015 Safoora bus carnage.

Police declared him an absconder in the charge-sheet in both the Safoora carnage and Sabeen Mahmud murder cases and an antiterrorism court had also issued his non-bailable arrest warrants.

Rehman’s name first emerged after the Sindh police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) detected the group responsible for the Safoora carnage and arrested several suspects in Karachi. CTD official Raja Umer Khattab had told a press conference that the group was ‘inspired’ by the ideology of the militant Islamic State group.

According to the sources, suspect Rehman came in contact with Saad Aziz, a business graduate from the prestigious Institute of Business Administration, when the latter started working in the same multinational firm, Unilever Pakistan, where he was working as an engineer. Soon they became close friends.

A Unilever Pakistan spokesperson could not be reached despite several attempts.

Rehman along with suspect Aziz did a recee to target rights activist Mahmud. They attended one of the programmes organised at Sabeen Mahmud’s The Second Floor (T2F) cafe and could be seen in a photograph taken on the occasion.

“Ali Rehman was directly involved in the killing of Sabeen Mahmud,” said a security official, who wished not to be named.

Ms Mahmud was shot dead near the Defence Library when she along with her mother was returning home in her car after organising a seminar about the Balochistan issue in April 2015.

Later, her driver, an eyewitness to the killing, was also gunned down in the metropolis.

Regarding his involvement in the Safoora carnage, the sources said that although he did not take part in the massacre he was among the group of militants that planned and carry out the attack.

He was among several suspects who reached the spot on their motorbikes. Rehman did not enter the bus to carry out the shooting, a source said, adding that after accomplishing their mission he along with the killers escaped on their motorbikes.

Around 45 Shia Ismaili community members, including 18 women, were killed and eight others sustained wounds in an armed attack on their bus near Safoora Goth on May 13, 2015.

Later, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah announced the arrest of four suspected militants — Saad Aziz, Hafiz Nasir, Mohammad Azhar and Tahir Minhas — and claimed that Saad Aziz masterminded the Safoora attack as well as the killing of Sabeen Mahmud.

Both cases have been transferred from antiterrorism courts to a military court and the suspects are also in the custody of army authorities.
