Israeli soldier moderately hurt in West Bank stabbing; assailant caught
2024-05-18
[IsraelTimes] Three Islamic Jihad gunmen killed overnight during IDF operation in Tulkarem; troops raid offices allegedly used to fund terror.

An Israeli soldier was stabbed near the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar and suffered moderate injuries, the military and medics said Thursday.

The Israel Defense Forces said the noncommissioned officer was stabbed at Yitzhar Junction, near Huwara, while in his vehicle. The stabber then expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

The military said it launched a manhunt for the Paleostinian assailant and was blocking roads in the area. Three hours later, the suspected attacker was caught in the Paleostinian town of Awarta, not far from where the attack took place, the IDF said.

The maimed man was able to reach a nearby military position after being attacked. There, he told soldiers that he had slowed down and opened the window of his vehicle because he saw a Paleostinian gesturing to him with his hand, the Kan public broadcaster reported.

Medics took the soldier to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, which said that after receiving initial medical treatment he was now regarded as lightly maimed.

Huwara has been a hotbed of violence in recent years with several deadly terror attacks in and around the Paleostinian town, which have been met with Dire Revenge attacks from bad boy settlers who have repeatedly rampaged through it.

It was the second stabbing incident of the day after early in the morning a man tried to stab Border Police officers in East Jerusalem. Officers opened fire on the man, killing him before he could cause any injuries.

There was deadly violence in other areas of the West Bank, with three Paleostinian button men killed overnight in festivities with troops during a crackdown on terror funding in the territory, according to Paleostinian Authority officials and the IDF. The military said the raids targeted offices allegedly involved in funneling money for terror purposes in Tulkarem, Nablus, Qalqilya, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Tubas, and other locations. Cash, documents, and "technological equipment" were seized amid the raids, the IDF said.

In Tulkarem and Qalqiliya, troops came under attack — though none of them were hurt — and returned fire, according to the army.

Border Police troops also opened fire and killed three Paleostinian button men who were planting bombs in Tulkarem, the military said. The Paleostinian Authority’s health ministry identified those killed as Ayman Ahmad Mubarak, 26, Husam Imad Daabas, 22, and Mohammed Yusif Nasrallah, 27.

terror group later claimed the three as members of its armed wing.

Several others were maimed by IDF fire in Tulkarem, the PA ministry said.

On Wednesday, Paleostinian officials said Israeli troops killed a man as festivities broke out after a West Bank march commemorating the Paleostinian "Nakba," or catastrophe, of Israel’s creation in 1948. The Israeli army did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Armed Gazan gangs, some thought tied to Hamas, steal $70 million from Bank of Palestine
2024-05-04
[IsraelTimes] French daily Le Monde reports funds taken from the vaults of several branches in the Strip by groups armed with explosives, commandos who answer to ‘Gaza’s highest authorities’

Armed groups in Gaza, including one with presumed Hamas links, last month robbed the Bank of Palestine of some $70 million, French daily Le Monde reported Saturday.

The funds were taken from the vaults of several branches of the bank, it said, citing a Bank of Palestine document sent to “certain international partners” detailing the robberies.

On April 16, staff discovered a hole in the ceiling of the safe deposit room at one of the bank’s Gaza branches and found that some $3 million worth of Israeli shekels destined for cash dispensers were missing, Le Monde said.

The next day, armed groups equipped with explosives returned to the site, blew up a cement protection chamber and took more than $30 million in various currencies from three safes.

Two days later, the biggest Gaza branch was attacked by commandos who said they answered to “Gaza’s highest authorities,” which the paper said is understood to mean Hamas.

They took more than $36 million worth of shekels.

The Bank of Palestine, founded in 1960, is Gaza’s leading financial institution.

The Palestinian Monetary Authority, an independent body that oversees the financial system in Palestinian territories, said when contacted by AFP that it was planning to issue a statement about the issue later Saturday.

IDF says two wanted Palestinian gunmen killed in West Bank raid, 3rd killed separately
2023-12-05
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says troops, coppers of the Gideonim unit, and Border Police officers killed two Paleostinian button men in the West Bank city of Qalqiliya this morning.

According to a statement, the pair were responsible for several shooting attacks against troops in the area.

It says forces chased after the desperados, during which festivities erupted and the button men were killed.

An assault rifle and pistol were seized, the IDF says.

The Paleostinian Authority health ministry says it was notified of the men’s deaths, indicating their bodies were being held by Israeli authorities.

PA says man killed by IDF fire, 4 injured in separate overnight West Bank raids

It adds that four were maimed at the Dheisheh camp near Bethlehem, including one in very serious condition.

There is no immediate information from the Israeli military on its overnight operations.

Palestinian Authority boasts it ‘thwarted’ major land sales to Jews in Jerusalem
2018-12-24
[IsraelTimes] Abbas’s troops said to arrest 44 on suspicion of attempting to deal away 740 acres in East Jerusalem and West Bank, with three sentenced to hard labor.

The Paleostinian Authority’s security forces announced Sunday that it had "foiled" the sale of roughly 3,000 dunams (741 acres) throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem to Jews.

The PASF statement, posted on its Facebook page, said a large-scale operation to prevent the land sales resulted in the arrests of 44 Paleostinians, who had been attempting to sell property near the cities of East Jerusalem, Ramallah, Nablus, Hebron, Qalqiliya, and Salfit.

Three of the suspects have already been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor, the statement said.

The Ynet news site reported that among the incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
was East Jerusalem resident Issam Akel.

The Jerusalem resident had been sought by the PA over his involvement in the sale of a home in the Moslem Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City to Jews.

The PA government formed a committee to investigate the sale of the home in the Old City, PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah tweeted on October 9.

Paleostinian law considers attempting to sell or selling land to Israeli Jews a punishable offense.

According to the law, possible punishments for trying to sell or selling land to Israeli Jews include different degrees of hard labor and execution.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
the law requires that PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
approve any death sentence, and he has not signed off on any executions since 2006.

Last month, Israel twice detained Adnan Ghaith, the PA governor of Jerusalem, for his reported connection to Akel’s arrest.

The Sunday PASF statement did not specify whether the three sentenced to 15 years of hard labor were the same as the two men given an identical punishment last month.

Then, the PA High Judicial Council’s website announced the sentencing of "F.A.E. and A. Kh. M. from Kafr Thulth in the Qalqilya Governorate for the crime of leaking land to the enemy."

Separately, in early November, the body of Ala’a Qirsh, one of six Paleostinians who died in a major road accident in the Jordan Valley, was barred from being buried in a Moslem cemetery in Jerusalem over allegations that he had sold property to Israeli Jews, an official in the Jerusalem Waqf told The Times of Israel.

The PASF statement called on Paleostinians to "exercise caution" in handling their property to prevent the transfer of land "to the occupation."

Palestinians say protester killed in West Bank clashes with IDF
2018-01-16
[IsraelTimes] Muhammad Ahmed Saleem, 24, died of gunshot wound to the head during protest near Qalqiliya, PA health ministry says

A 24-year-old Paleostinian was shot and killed in festivities on Monday with Israeli security forces in the West Bank, the Paleostinian Authority health ministry said.

The ministry said Muhammad Ahmed Saleem, 24, was shot while taking part in a violent protest in the village of Jayyous, near the city of Qalqilya.

The Israel Defense Forces said that soldiers opened fired at demonstrators, but could not yet confirm the reports of Saleem’s death.

The army said that dozens of Paleostinians took part in the protest, throwing rocks at IDF soldiers.

"Soldiers responded with riot dispersal means and live rounds, after which the riot was dispersed," the IDF said in a statement. "Reports claiming a Paleostinian was killed in the riot are being looked into."

A report from the official PA news site Wafa said Saleem died after being shot in the head during the festivities. An eyewitness told the Paleostinian news site Ma’an that "light" festivities had broken out at the time of Saleem’s death.

The witness told Ma’an that security forces opened fire from a distance of less than 20 meters.

Saleem, according to the report, had spent three years in an Israeli prison and was released in 2016. The report did not say what he was imprisoned for. Saleem, the report added, was the secretary of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Paleostine

Six Terrorists Arrested as IDF Preps for Day of Rage
2014-08-16
[ArutzSheva] Six wanted Arab holy warriors were incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in Judea and Samaria overnight Thursday/Friday, according to IDF sources.

Four of them were arrested in Deir Istiya, southeast of Qalqilya, and another Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terrorist was arrested in Beit Ummar, southwest of Bethlehem. They were interrogated by security forces.

In addition, Duvdevan special forces apprehended a Hamas member in the Aida "refugee camp" in Bethlehem. The suspect evaded arrest, causing IDF forces to open fire, wounding him. The man was transferred to a hospital for treatment and later interrogated by security forces.

Arrests in Judea-Samaria have increased over the past week, as security forces crack down on terrorism following calls to begin a third intifada in the region. The crackdown has paid off; during a wave of twelve arrests overnight Tuesday/Wednesday, the IDF arrested a Hamas terrorist in Kafr Samoa, south of Hevron, who was actively planning a terror attack against the IDF and Israeli civilians.

On Sunday night, security forces killed a Fatah terrorist during a joint operation of the IDF and Border Police undercover unit, south of Shechem (Nablus), after he resisted arrest and opened fire on the soldiers, forcing the IDF to return fire.

Preparatory measures for 'Day of Rage'?
At least part of the IDF crackdown can be attributed to Hamas's repeated calls for a third intifada over the past several months - a call which surfaced again late this week.

On Thursday night, Hamas called on Paleostinian Arabs throughout Judea-Samaria to participate in mass demonstrations on Friday supporting Gazoo in light of Israel's self-defense operation, Operation Protective Edge.

A procession of terrorist and Lion of Islam forces are expected to participate in a major demonstration in Ramallah on Friday after morning prayers, under the banner "We are outraged for you, Gazoo Strip!"

In Hevron, a march will take place under the title "We are all Gazoo"; additional marches are taking place in Bethlehem, Shechem (Nablus), Qalqiliya, and Tul-Karem.

Past demonstrations have featured not only blatant incitement to violence, but also chaotic rioting, and often festivities with IDF forces.

Palestinian Kills Israeli Soldier to 'Trade Body'
2013-09-22
[An Nahar] A Paleostinian kidnapped and murdered an Israeli soldier hoping to exchange the body for his brother, incarcerated

in the Jewish state since 2003, officials said on Saturday.

An army front man said the soldier "was kidnapped and killed by a Paleostinian near Qalqiliya yesterday (Friday) and his body was found" on Saturday morning.

The army identified the soldier as Tomer Hazan, 20.

An Agence La Belle France Presse correspondent said his body was evacuated by helicopter on Saturday afternoon, following an overnight search.

Hazan was in the army but on a weekend pass and knew the Paleostinian, having worked with him at a restaurant south of Tel Aviv, the Shin Bet security agency said.

Shin Bet said it placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
the Paleostinian suspect, 42-year-old Nidal Amer, at his family home in Beit Amin south of Qalqiliya, and that he had confessed to killing the soldier.

The suspect said he had kidnapped and killed him in the hope that he could "trade the body in exchange for the release" of one of his brothers who has been incarcerated

by Israel since 2003 in connection with several attacks, Shin Bet said in a statement.

"An investigation is under way and is expected to lead to the arrest of other individuals who took part in the incident," Shin Bet said, adding that another of Amer's brothers was also arrested on Saturday.

"This was a horrible terrorist attack by one assassin trying to free another," said military front man Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner in a statement.

According to Shin Bet the soldier agreed to share a taxi on Friday with Amer.

"Nidal confessed that he took the soldier to a deserted area... then killed him and hid his body in a well," Shin Bet said.

Minister: PA May Drill For Oil In West Bank
2012-04-21
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A team of experts is researching the possibility of drilling for oil in the West Bank, the Paleostinian Authority minister of state said Friday.

Mahir Ghneim told Ma'an that international and local experts started research months ago in Ramallah and southern Hebron and found an oil field in the village of Rantis, west of Ramallah.

"We are waiting for what the experts will say about that oil field before we prepare for possible drilling in future," Ghneim said.

The Paleostinian Authority hopes a database compiled by the researchers will help its efforts to claim natural resources including petroleum, water and stone in areas of the occupied West Bank under Israeli control, Ghneim said.

When the West Bank was under Jordanian control, drilling took place in Bir Zeit, near Ramallah, and in as-Samu, south of Hebron. The results were not encouraging because of the low price of oil at the time, but extracting oil is easier now, the minister said.

A committee is also investigating an oil and natural gas field discovered in 2008 between Qalqiliya and Latrun which Israel is keeping quiet about, the minister said.

"Israel is not revealing information about that oil and natural gas field Meged 5 which was discovered in 2008, but we appointed a committee of experts to explore and investigate that field located between Qalqiliya and Latrun."

The statement identified those detained in Qalqiliya as Hamam Ash-Shanty, Saher Aby Asab, Shehab Abu Saleh, Muhammad Hamuda, Maysara Afaneh, Muhammad Swiyani and As'ad Abu Saleh.

In Ramallah, the two detained were identified in the statement as Ahmad Samih Shatat and Muhammad Shreiteh, while Rasem Saleh and Abdul Rahman Odeh were detained in Nablus and Tulkarem, respectively, Hamas said.

Israeli forces detain 3 more PA security officers
2009-11-22
[Ma'an] Israeli forces raided the West Bank town of Jayyus northeast of Qalqiliya on Saturday morning and detained five Palestinians including three Palestinian Authority Security Services officers, officials said.

On Friday, four officers and one commander with the Palestinian Intelligence Services were detained from the Salfit area. High-level talks between Israel and Palestine were held throughout the day, with alleged US pressure added shortly before noon. Palestinian security forces are trained by US General Keith Dayton.

The five men were released late Friday night, Palestinian security sources confirmed.

It was not clear whether the second round of detentions targeting PA forces was related to the first incident. The head of the Israeli civil liaison department said his Israeli counterparts denied knowledge of the detention of any PA security officers in Qalqiliya on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses in Jayyus said the invading Israeli forces entered an internet cafe and ransacked the site Friday night, temporarily detaining all the patrons inside. After midnight several military vehicles stormed the town under the cover of heavy gunfire and stun grenades. Locals said they believed the men were detained from their homes.

The officers detained in the Saturday morning raid were identified by Palestinian security sources as:

Ayyoub Khalid from the Palestinian National Security Services
Muhammad Shamasna from the Palestinian National Security Services
Anwar Mustafa from the Palestinian Authority Military Police

Two civilians were also detained, in what may be unrelated events. The civilians were identified as Jihad Shamasna and Nour Baydha.

All five of the men detained by Israeli forces were taken to unknown destinations.

Palestinian officials said they believe the actions were the realization of recent threats by Israel to take unilateral steps against the PA, likely as a response to government refusal to sit at the peace-talk table with Israel.

The Israeli news site Ynet said the men may have been detained for their involvement in investigations against a man suspected of collaborating with Israel. The site quoted an unnamed Palestinian security sources as saying the Israel demanded the suspected collaborator, resident of Dir Istia village where two of the security officers were detained, be released unharmed.
