Two more killed in 'shootouts' |
2014-01-29 |
[Bangla Daily Star] Two suspected criminals, including a leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party ...the Proletarian Party of East Bengal, a Maoist party that has seen better days. It supported independence in 1971 and has periodic shootouts and fisticuffs with the Bangla Jamaat-e-Islami, but has fallen on hard times, with many of its leaders rubbed out by the RAB or indignant citizenry. It is also subject to factionalism, to the extent that it may have more factions than it has actual members... (PBCP), were killed in "shootouts" between their cohorts and law enforcers in Khulna and Jessore yesterday. Including them the number of extrajudicial killings comes to 17 in this month. At least eight were killed while they were in jug of law enforcers. Police versions of the "shootouts" were found more or less similar. Extrajudicial killings should be stopped immediately, said Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra, a rights body that provides legal aid. "If they are really accused [of crimes], they should be punished through a proper judicial process," she said, adding such extrajudicial killings should not be allowed in any democratic country. Meanwhile, ...back at the palazzo, Don Smilzo looked for an avenue of escape. The only window opened a hundred feet above the moat. The nearest of the hired assassins hold a bloody axe. The window was looking better all the time.... expressing concern over the recent spate of extrajudicial killings, Human Rights Watch ... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world... called for an independent investigation into the incidents. Yesterday, Touhidul Islam Sabuj, 28, the second-in-command of PBCP, was killed in an exchange of shots between his party members and police in Phultala upazila of Khulna, according to police. Sabuj and his associates were holding a meeting at Chatiantola in the upazila around 3:30am. On a tip-off, "Hello? Is dis da cops? Lissen, dis is Mahmoud the Weasel..." a police team led by the officer-in-charge of Phultala Police Station went to raid the area. A "shootout" ensued as they fired at the law enforcers, said the OC, Mohammad Elias Fakir. "You may [BANG!] fire when ready, [BANG!] Sergeant Shafiq! [BANGETY BANG!]" After the firing that lasted for nearly an hour, police found Sabuj lying in a pool of blood while his associates managed to flee. "Cheaply made flip-flops, don't fail me now!" He was taken to Phultala Upazila Health Complex where he departed this vale of tears nearly eight hours after the incident, the OC added. "Dr. Quincy to the white courtesy phone! Dr. Quincy!" However, death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate... Monjur Morshed, upazila health and family planning officer, said he had heard from the doctor, who was on duty at the hospital at the time, that Sabuj was brought in dead. "He's dead, Jim!" Sabuj was accused in nine murder cases and three others filed under the Arms Act. He had the death sentence on twelve systems! Police said they had recovered two firearms, 19 bullets, six handmade bombs and two machetes from the spot. In Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore, Rabiul Islam, 28, a member of a local gang, Mesbah Bahini, was killed in a "shootout" with the joint force, police sources said. "It is the joint force! Open fire, men!" This is the gang that had hacked and then burnt alive Chaitanya Kumar Mondol, 48, the youth and sports secretary of Magura ward Awami League, on Sunday night. Police tossed in the slammer You have the right to remain silent... Rabiul yesterday in connection with a mugging case. "Stick 'em up!" Acting on the information extracted from him, "Ow! O-w-w-w-w! Make him stop! I confess! I killed Jon Benet!" a team of the joint force conducted a drive at Ziadanga village in the upazila around 2:00am to recover arms, Syed Mostafa Kamal, assistant superintendent of police in Jessore, told The Daily Star. "Yessir, that's what they done!" As the law enforcers reached near a bamboo cluster of the village, cohorts of Mesbah-ur-Rahman, leader of the gang, opened fire on them, the ASP said. "You'll never take me alive, coppers!" The join force members fired back. [BANG!] We knew that! [BANG!] During the "shootout" Rabiul tried to run away "I'm outta here!" and got injured in the firing. "Aaaaiiiieee! I am undone!" He was rushed "Is the ambulance here yet?" "Patience! It's on its way! See the blinky light?" "Ummm... That's a rickshaw!" to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. He's dead, Jim! Rabiul was accused in several cases, including murder and mugging charges. "Aye, sir. He wuz a bad un!" Three police personnel also sustained minor injuries during the firing. "Whoa! Rafiqul! That's gotta hurt!" "You betcha it does. Loan me your nail clipper!" A pistol and two bullets were recovered from the scene. "No, wait a minute! Three bullets! I found another one!" "That's not a bullet! It's a... a... musket ball?" "A musket ball's a bullet." "No, it ain't." [Bicker] [Bicker] [Bicker] |

Life term for 46 Purbo Banglars |
2013-05-16 |
[Bangla Daily Star] A Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi yesterday sentenced life term imprisonment to 46 operatives of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party ...the Proletarian Party of East Bengal, a Maoist party that has seen better days. It supported independence in 1971 and has periodic shootouts and fisticuffs with the Bangla Jamaat-e-Islami, but has fallen on hard times, with many of its leaders rubbed out by the RAB or indignant citizenry. It is also subject to factionalism, to the extent that it may have more factions than it has actual members... for killing six people at Atrai upazila in Naogaon in 2003. Judge Ekramul Haque Chowdhury fined the convicts Tk 30,000 each, in default, they would have to suffer one year of imprisonment more, said public prosecutor Entajul Haque. Of the convicts, 28 were present on the dock during the verdict whereas 18 remained absconding. The court, however, acquitted 16 accused in the case. A band of operatives of the PBCP (Red Flag) took part in a killing mission at two houses at Naidighi village in the upazila on April 24, 2003 and killed Jahangir Hossain, Sukbor Hossain, Abdul Jabbar, Shahjahan, Mojammel Haque and Biddyut. Jahangir's father filed a murder case with Atrai Police Station on the following day accusing 150 unnamed PBCP members. Police submitted a charge sheet in the case against 63 people on September 30, 2004. The judge examined 25 prosecution witnesses and pieces of evidence before reaching the verdict yesterday. One of the accused could not be tried following his death during the trial process. The plaintiff, Jahangir's father, had already expired. However, there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly... Abdul Kuddus, elder brother of victims Sahajahan and Biddyut, in his reaction said they had expected the killers to walk the gallows. He expressed his satisfaction. PP Entajul said the victims' rivals had hired the PBCP outlaws for the murder, as there was a longstanding conflict over the lease of some water bodies in the village. Prior to the murder, the PBCP men had also threatened the victims to face dire consequences for being in disputes with Akkas, Ekhlas and Robiul Alam of the village, he added. The victims took cautionary measures following the threat and started living in a hidden chamber inside their houses. On the fateful day, the PBCP men, carrying machetes and cleavers, attacked Jahangir's house first around 3:00am and killed him by slitting his throat. They then moved on to an adjacent house and killed the remaining victims in the similar fashion after getting them out from the hiding place. The PBCP members also rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud while fleeing the scene. |

2013-03-22 |
[Bangla Daily Star] Operatives of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) killed a local BNP leader and his daughter in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur yesterday. We seen dis movie! Of the two, Helal Uddin, joint secretary of Mujibnagar upazila BNP, was hacked indiscriminately, and he died on the spot around 7:00pm. It had subtitles. His daughter Kakoli Yasmin Mitu, 22, was fatally hit by shrapnel from three cocktails thrown at her when she went to save her father. She died at Meherpur General Hospital around 11:50pm, Mofazzel Hossain, superintendent of Meherpur police, told The Daily Star around 12:30am today. "She's dead, Jim!" In leaflets left on the scene, members of PBCP-Janajuddho faction have claimed responsibility for the murder of Helal, a village doctor by profession, reported our Kushtia correspondent. "Leaflets at the scene, eh? Le Gume, I suspect Purbo Banglar Communists!" Around 6:30pm, some 12 Janajuddho cadres stormed Helal's house in Ratanpur village shortly after he returned from Mujibnagar Bazar. "Father! The Janajuddho cadres are attacking!" "Bring me my prang, daughter!" As they tried to get hold of Helal, his daughter Kakoli and wife came to his rescue. "You shall not harm my father!" But they stabbed Kakoli in the head. "O-o-o-o-w!" At one stage of the tussle, Helal ran out of the house only to be chased down by the attackers. "Get him!" Undeterred, his plucky daughter followed the gang but could not go far as they hurled cocktails at her, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mujibnagar Police Station, quoting the victims' family members. "Ker-BANG!" "Aaaiiieee! I am undone! Mukhtar, my secret love! Avenge me!" "We have found a leaflet on the spot where Janajuddho leader Bikash Kumar said they killed Helal for not obeying their orders," said the OC. "Helal's daughter! Sweet Kakoli! How I loved her! I must have... Dire RevengeĀ!" Bikash, who claims to be operations commander of Janajuddho Khulna division, had been demanding hefty sums from Helal for a month. But the BNP leader refused to pay the money. "Not one taka in tribute!" The PBCP men had fixed Monday as the last date for him to pay. "Yez'll pay up by Monday, Helal, or else!" "Failing to get the money within that time, the outlaws threatened to kill him," Rabiul added. "It's gonna be curtains for youse!" Helal neither informed the police of the matter nor lodged any complaint against anybody, the officer said. "I can't go to the police with this, daughter! If they discover I spent all the money the Chinese loaned the nation for the bridge while we were in power it's four gray walls for me!" "But, Dad! You'd still be alive! We'd bring you lunch, every day!" "You're a good girl, Kakoli. I'm glad I've turned away all your suitors and used you as a kitchen drudge! You're such a comfort!" A special drive was on to arrest the killers. "Yes! They murdered an innocent girl in the flower of her beauty! Oh, sweet Kakoli! If I wasn't a gangster she'd have been my bride!" "Dere, dere, Mukhtar! We'll rub dem commies out!" "[Sniff!] Youse guys are the best bahini ever!" |

We have no idea where that is ...
The story seems out of order. Doesn't that part come at the end?
A little early for the RAB, unless they were doing a double ... where Musa along with his accomplices were holding a clandestine meeting.
My spider sense! It's tingling again! To arms! Aux barricades! the gang opened Of course the RAB retaliated, they weren't out there for their health ... that triggered a 'shootout'. Yep, meets all the criteria for a 'shootout', especially the deader ... At one stage, the outlaws
managed to flee the scene. ... as though they had never been... Later, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Musa lying on the ground, right where they left him ... reports our Kushtia correspondent.
